DMC4 vs DmC: Speed Comparison/Analysis

But you referred to the original Dante as, "DMC4 Dante," so calling this one, "Dante," wouldn't have been at all confusing. But you're right. Call him what you want. It's just seems childish when you refuse to even acknowledge him as Dante at all.
I called the 4th Dante as the original? Can you show me my post of me saying that? Call it childish or whatever floats your boat for my reasons of not calling him new Dante or Dante and whatnot, but I have my reasons to do so. And I don't think alt. guy is as bad as my pseudonym for him because really, I could do worse by calling him Edward, emo, D(ante) I(n) N(ame) O(nly), Donte, fake Dante, Tameem, Tamte.

So...in order for me to remain somewhat civil towards this new adaptation of Dante, and his character archetype, I will call him that. Call it stupid, dumb, childish, ignorant, you don't get it, you don't understand it...whatever. It works for me.

Silly nick name? I'm not about to call him new Dante/Dmc Dante, so I said alternate guy, since this takes place in an alternate universe.

It doesn't take place in an alternate universe, Tameem said that because he didn't want fans to cry that Uncle Dante was gone.

Its a reboot, a re-imagining of Devil May Cry from a Western perspective.

And by calling him "Dante" or something similar like "DmC Dante" you're acknowledging that you're not some fangirl who hates DmC for no valid reasons.

Dude...it's an alternate universe.

Saying "he only said that to put angry fans at ease" is just as much bullshit as saying "Tameem ruined DMC." Things can be a re-imagining and still be an alternate universe that neither replaces or retcons the original - that's why we have so many versions of things like super heroes, and even literature like Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Peter Pan.

Didn't a Ninja Theory guy (forgot his name) say it was a reboot on a Q&A here? I remember his answer was "reboot."

The problem I have with "alternate universe" is that it implies that there is some connection between the two series, when there is no connection lore wise. The reason why the vergil t-rex time travelling angels leak and the recent mundus simulation leak got famous is because Tameem said "alternate universe."

I never understood either just calling him by his official name or just ignoring the game altogether if it's not your taste it is easy to do and you wont look silly by raging over something that does not affect you unless you let it. hey I did not like Nero but I never when talking about him called him names or anything heck I knew people calling him Zero..or wannabe Dante..I just rolled my eyes and stayed away from all that since it is not needed, either say it right or not at all and leave it alone because it is there with or without pause..damn mentioning Zero makes me want to play Borderlands 2 now...xD

There is a connection between the two - it's all the stuff in the game that's still the same. The themes, the characters, the skills, the gameplay. People are taking the term "alternate universe" too literally it seems, but it's really just a different one, one aside from the classic one we know, just like with the stuff I mentioned with comics and classic literature - no one gets their panties in a bunch when someone makes a new one of those.

What sense does that make to make it a reboot when the option to continue with the original series is still open AKA not killed off yet AKA it still could happen? Since you are such an expert on knowing what the setting for this game is, tell me so.
No one really knows what it is, so because of all its flip-flopping I'm saying alternate universe, even I could be wrong. Hell, there are so many websites and PR people saying it's one or the other.

And fangirl...don't get me started. Goodbye.

What? You said "DMC4 Dante." So therefore you were referring to the Dante of the past four games. That's what I was saying. Simple.

Having your reasons doesn't make it any less immature.

You have to call a videogame character out of his name to remain civil? Well ok. ^_^

Dude, I see you are still confused. It's not about taking "alternative universe" literary or otherwise, but ignoring the fact it's a reboot, thus replaces DMC as a whole. Get your terms straight dude, the whole "DMC5 may happen" was nothing but damage control, since it obviously won't.

Not really. Nothing is replaced, and nothing is rewritten, DmC is all its own thing aside from the classics. You can't just say "it's just damage control" without any plausible evidence, and it's just cynical obtuseness to think that's the only reason it was said. There's nothing to support claims that there "obviously won't" be anymore classic DMC, especially when Capcom has gone on record saying the contrary. It's not like they haven't done this before. If you wanna sit there and think it's all done and never coming back, that's fine, but don't go around talking like you know more than the people who own the IP.

At best it's the Schrödinger's Cat of video games :/

This, I agree with. Tho there are more statements of it being a reboot, calling orange an apple would be dumb from Capcom.
The only 2 people I'm aware that ever said "DMC5 might happen" were the Eshiro guy and Greg from CU.

How can it be a reboot with the original series not being discontinued? A journalist on youtube ever says that that it's a complete restart and they said otherwise to make fans happy. It's nice to have a faith in something, but there are facts and terms, and they say it's one thing, so no matter how much they sugar-coat it, DmC exists because they didn't want to make DMC5, it was a decision to start anew rather than abandon the IP altogether.
EDIT: damn typos

Wow, did you guys really attack the girl just cause she said alt char? I swear I like this game but I am getting so sick of pros like you guys. This is coming from a fan of the old series who actually warmed up to the new. As for your little idea of of no DMC5 I like you to look at a series called Mega Man and its MANY universes all with their own Mega Man..much like how DmC: Devil May Cry has it own version of Dante. Did that ever stop Capcom from going back to the other Mega Man series..no.

LMAO wow. So it's wrong for us to call her out on something like that, but like when one user was running around calling DMC4, "SMC4," he got called out on it for the same reason I posted. It's simply childish at this point.

I didn't at all attack anyone, and I never have. Whatever.

Actually, there's a timeline for most of Mega Man, and the only thing that isn't part of it was the Battle Network and Star Force games :p But yeah, that's sorta my point - Capcom has made up new stuff all the time and gone back to the previous ones.

Granted, this is disregarding Capcom's lack of Blue Bomber games in recent years...man...the last one I really loved was ZX Advent...

Just because you're not addressing someone/something in it's original name doesn't make you childish. It's adding insults to the character that makes you look childish. That's why I called out the person who said SMC4. They were essentially calling it "Sh*t May Cry 4" (they stated it themselves) because they personally didn't like it as well as adding an insult to it.
Britt96 is only calling Dante, alt. guy without making childish insults.

She doesn't like the new Dante but she doesn't want to insult the character, so alt. guy is more civil than calling him "Donte" or "EmoDante" and etc.

Chaser said it better then I could lol.

Yeah I knew most of the Mega Man series follows a timeline but it does have a few alt universe as you stated. I just wanted to show Capcom is sort of known for trying new things but they never just leave the other series in the dust unless your talking about Legends 3 which if you listen to Capcom was our fault..

Why you gotta pour salt on that open wound T_T Speaking of, did you ever torture yourself and watch the footage they had of Legends 3? It was...so awesome...*sniff*

But yeah, Mega Man is a prime example of them jumping around between series for years. X was made before the original 7 was released, and they focused on the X games for a long time, and then Legends came out somewhere in there, too. Zero series was out as they started to go back to more X games, and they released the Battle Network stuff. then they came back to make the retro classics, and we had some DS games with ZX and Star Force @_@

Not to mention... If there's money to be made, I'm sure a DMC5 is going to be around the corner.

Like, if DmC manages to rival GoW, then Capcom could make a lot of money for an additional DMC game regardless of if it falls under DMC or DmC. Once an IP has momentum, it's kind of hard to make it stop unless they fail two sequels in a row.
