DMC4 vs DmC: Speed Comparison/Analysis

actually Nero is far more refined than DmC Dante is in swordsmanship, he is a rookie only when compared to DMC4 Dantes thousands of years of experience.

...Dante in DMC4 is only 29, so thats...about maybe 15 or so years to account for pre DMC3, Manga, and first novel. He's not thousands of years old.

I really don't think Dante's 29. I know for a fact he isn't thousands of years old, but he's not 29.

In fact I'm pretty sure they never really set up an actual age for Dante, they just threw something out for an interview, and I believe that was only for DMC1, where he was said to be around 28.

People just clung to it as if it were a canon fact and used those same types of statements about the timeline placement of the other games to approximate his age.

really? i was under the impression that he was about 2000 years old. it seems strange that he wouldage at the same rate as a normal human being.

I think that he could live well over a 1000 years since he's a half demon. Heck, in DmC he's half demon and half angel... so would he even age at all?
I don't think it matters though... I'm sure Capcom will always keep his story within a lifetime, but... it would be pretty funny to see Dante in the future with who knows what kind of wonky fashion.

Dante is 28 in DMC1, and DMC4 is a year later, so he's 29 in DMC4 and 19 in DMC3. That's the official ages, sicne he was 8 when Eva was murdered, and it's specified that DMC1 is twenty years after her murder and Vergil's disappearence.

Aaaaaaah now I see what you're saying about pauses between attacks. I wonder if that was done to help with buffering windows?

And nice work. Love the Bebop in there n.n

Hmm..this comparison seems fair. Some I agree and some I don't understand, but overall good job.

I noticed something, and actually something that wasn't intended, but it feels cool in DmC.

It is a little slower than de DMC 4, but if you think about it, it's DmC Dante fault, he isn't very experienced, compared to DMC 4 Dante, he wasn't trained in sword arts, he jut use a sword like a blunt weapon, a baseball bat, he dosen't balance well, have unnecessary arm movement, this kind'a stuff that inexperienced swordsman do.

I will play thinking like this, i think is more cool to think like this

That's what I was thinking myself too after I first saw a gameplay trailer of it (back when I was 50% skeptical). The DmC Dante fights like a brawler or Frank West while the original one fights like a professional, but both of their fighting style looks pretty badass IMO.

That's the thing, though. Where are you getting his age at the time of Eva's death? The manga or something? Because it's never stated in the games, and I've always wondered where it came from. Dante's age is actually not at all anything official or canon. While I seem to remember him being stated at 28-29 for DMC, Koboyashi said he was nearing 40 during DMC4. And I always thought DMC4 was two years after DMC, and not only one.

Of course, I can't be bothered to find these sources after so many years.

Develeoper info said he and Vergil were 8 when Eva was murdered, which was also verified in the DMC3 prequel manga and the first novel. Kobayashi also specified that DMC3 is ten years prior to dmc4 because Lady was ten years older in DMC4 from DMC3. Ergo, since Dante was 8 when eva died 20 years prior to dmc1, that makes him 28, and DMC4 is one year later with the anime occuring between DMC1 and DMC4, so 29, which makes him 19 in DMC3, 18 in the manga, and possiblye 16 to 17 in the first novel's events.

Idk what developer info is, but none of that is actually solid as there's no straight up answers to Dante's age. The novel was rendered non-canon. The manga was never even finished. And as I said, Koboyashi also said that Dante was nearing 40 in DMC4.

There is no canon age for anyone of this franchise. The timeline is approximate at best, and all info regarding the matter is nothing more than a mention outside of the actual games.

It's arguable that Nero is even more unrefined as DmC Dante.
All of his moves are aggressive and lack finesse. Ranging from Shuffle, Calibur, Streak, basic combos, aerial combos, etc.
However he was still constantly moving as opposed to DmC Dante. (unless you did pause combos which is the point of them)
Whether people find this is offensive or not but THAT is why I latched on to newDante right away. There's so many comparisons between the two.

Both have a straight forward plot
Both are a varitant of Dante
Both have wild swinging sword animations
Both are not refined masters of their sword like oldDante is
Both have a long range grapple
Both have similar moves (though newDante is a combination of both DMC4 protagonists)
Both love those long dark coloured trench coats

Also I only just found this thread now. Missed it all day. Great editing too dude! Love the Cowboy Bebop music. Am always willing to help again if you need it.

Edit:
As for the video itself, I think it's a fair comparison. I think why DmC feels clunky(ish) is because of the slower pace of combat(not by much, but noticeable). But it follows with the game. DMC4 is fast paced with the enemies/animations/recovery and attack startup but it flows with the speed of the game. DmC with slower/animations enemies would obviously result in slower attacks and recovery. Whether that's good or bad is debatable but I don't consider it to be a flaw or a problem with the game. It's similar to how many of us played a game like Street Fighter 3: Third Strike with it's faster paced combat, combo system and parrying and then transitioned to Street Fighter 4 with a new graphic style, slower paced combat and focus attacks. BUT, the game was still enjoyable and very refined. This is also a good comparison to make since Street Fighter 4 catered to veterans but also gave us easier combat such as easier inputs. Slow animations and easier inputs but the game was(and still is) incredible. It's not bad in anyway(I can't point that out enough) but it will take time for us to adjust to a new system.

This is why (I think, I barely know how my subconscious works) I latched onto new Dante as well. He reminds me so much of Nero, and I loved Nero. XD

Speaking of, I should find a way to add this to the Knowledge Primer. Bleh...I haven't touched that thing in forever! The holiday season ruined me...I hate working retail T_T

It's really hard to pinpoint any specific time on certain events considering the original timeline is flimsy to say the least.
Funnily enough, I was under the impression that Dante was at least in his thirties by the time Devil May Cry came out.
Guess I was wrong.
