I don't wanna talk about Hideki for obvious reasons.
You don't want to talk about Hideki, because you know that I have a point.
But it's alright if you don't want to admit that. We can't have you losing your "cool" again, can we?
Now, moving on.
But here is what Tameem said:
1:48 "The goal is to redefine what made DMC cool".
What made DMC cool - not what Ninja theory thinks is cool.
He says they want to redefine what made DMC cool.
Try look up the word "redefine".
No wait, let me do it for you.
redefine [ˌriːdɪˈfaɪn]
vb (tr)
to define (something) again or differently
See, what it means is that Ninja Theory have taken what made DMC cool and redefined it, as in, changed it to what is cool today. Obviously, it is THEIR definiton of what is cool today, because they can't speak for everyone. They have probably looked through some pop-culture analysis and found out what the majority thinks is cool, then used the things they agree with and implemented it into Dante's new looks.
And voila, DmC Dante is born.
So, apparently, punk'ish looks, short black hair, smoking, all that stuff... That's apparently what is cool today, and NT agrees with that. But then came all the butthurt, all the raging fans, throwing crap at them for changing their oh so precious Dante, so they made a few small changes after that, yet kept the core design. And by core design I do NOT mean DMC Dante, but the core design of the new Dante they made.
Instead of bending to the will of the raging fans, they stuck to their own ideals. I kinda admire that, really. They didn't puss out and changed his hair to long and white, or changed the coat to be right red. Instead they made Dante's new DT become a hint back to the original design. If it was planned from the start or if they decided to do so AFTER all the raging fans made their voices heard, we don't know. You don't know, I don't know, no one knows but Capcom and NT. But either way, that's what they did.
The only problem left is that there are still butthurt fans out there who keep on raging, but NT has learned to ignore them and instead listens to the constructive criticism and uses whatever they think works for their new design.
ALL THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MAIN TOPIC THOUGH!
So I apologize for getting off-topic. I meant no disrespect to the OP or the topic of this thread. I just felt like something needed to be explained.
Now, for the M-rating.
Why do you guys think the other DMC games were rated mature, and why should it be any different with DmC? I think it makes sense to make this M-rated as well, especially if it has the same elements as in the past games. I don't think it's just because they say f*ck and such, and if it is, then does it really need an M-rating?
Denmark is a rather free country. Teens here curse from a young age, and all in all, it's just words. We know there's no harm in saying stuff like that, but we still teach our kids that those words have a bad meaning to them and shouldn't be abused. However, we generally accept those words, because we know that "Oh dillydally darnit" won't cut it when you're upset.
Dante is fighting demons, killing otherworldly creatures, shedding their unnatural blood and guts all over the place with his sword and guns... So a curse word here and there shouldn't be so shocking to people. That's just focusing on the wrong things here. It fits with the overall theme of the game, and it IS rated Mature, so if anyone is surprised to hear a f*ck or a sh*t now and then, then that is their problem, not the game's or the developer's problems.
As for sexual themes... open your eyes and recognize the world we live in. Sex isn't a taboo anymore, we're no longer in the 40's. Sex is a natural thing and denying that is just pure ignorancy. And sex has been a part of the gaming world for a very long time now. God of War just took it a step further and actually had sex be part of the gameplay, Dante's Inferno had succubi run around with a freaking tentacle sprouting from between their legs, Mortal Kombat has their babes' clothes torn during the fight, showing some underboob here and then... Because it fits with the theme!
We have yet to see if there is any sexual content in DmC as of yet, but looking back at the original series, with babes like Trish and Lady around, showing alot of cleavage, and even having a boss demon as Nevan who is practically naked, not to mention Bael's and Dagon's Rusalka anglers who are almost raping Dante and Nero as they confront them... It's not really all that new to Devil May Cry.
I agree that the excessive use of sex in games is unnecessary, unless the game is about sex of course, however, for a game like Devil May Cry, it shouldn't be in the main focus of the game. And it hasn't been so far. Not in the original series, and not in the footage we've seen of DmC. So I really don't think there's anything to worry about on that point.
I think I covered all there is to cover about the main topic here... Did I miss out on something?
