i heard somewhere that ninja theory was gonna have it but itsuno said no...

why would he say no?

im sure he wasn't trying to purposelly sabotage the game....... unless he thought it wasnt gonna work for the combat systen NT was doing

Eshiro stated at a conference in Japan before the game's release about how they had wanted to do away with the lock-on all the way back in DMC2, but didn't have enough time to really think about it and reconfigure the controls. They wan'ted to get rid of it because it was a restrictive mainstay from DMC's Resident Evil days that was as unnecessary as needing to hold R1 to shoot with Square.

DmC was made without requiring a hard lock system, and uses the analog stick-modifiable soft lock, which you can even see evidence of in DMC4 (it's one of the priority options).

well..it didnt work out, seeing as most DMC veterans biggest complaints were lack of depth to combat compared to 4.............. color coded enemies and no lock on

Well, that's rather subjective. I'm a "DMC veteran" and I have no qualms with DmC's combat, aside from a desire for it to be faster, which in and of itself is incidental.

A person's complaint does not devalue the whole, nor does a vocal group's. Especially when many of the "DMC veterans" expected many of DmC's mechanics to adhere to their classic DMC-based expectations, when they should have really taken a step back and learned DmC's mechanics from square one. It was a "reboot" after all.

Well, considering the enormous reaction to the lock on been gone I'd guess it's going to be a one time deal. Just the same, I think the soft lock they had in 'm' was actually pretty good and I hope that they put as much effort on the soft lock of the next game, 4's lock on always left me wanting. So add that and a hard lock and I'd be happy with it.

Here we go again. You don't like the combat- we get it. Every thread you have made is an opinionated and subjective criticism of DmC and how you don't like it. We get that, ok.

Can we just consolidate all these DmC combat threads into one thread for ease of access/ cluttering up the forum seeing as they all amount to the same thing.

Again, this is your opinion. This is not fact. You're just posting the same complaints again and again using different topic titles and wording it in different ways. If you don't like it, fine, but your complaints are not fact.

truth be told why is lock on an issue at all there are things they invented a,while back called analogs that allow you to choose your direction and attack that way i never use lock on in DMC3 or 4 unless its for snatch or specific moves that i have to i mean you don‘t need it look at ninja gaiden it has no lock on and it makes no difference too it and i am playing DMC since 2001 and am a veteran and master jc‘ing lunatic who wrecked my hands mastering DMC4 to its fullest after mastering DMC3 ive thousands of hours,up on both games and on 1 and 2 lol i know i am an addict ha and it doesnt bother me in tbe slightest how DmC has soft lock in it

Yeah I have to agree, they could have easily made one of the dodging buttons a lock on. My personal opinion, absolutely nothing about DmC was an improvement

Except then how does one use both Angel and/or Devil mode >.> Especially someone like me who has already changed one of the dodge buttons to Gun Special.
You can still have one of the shoulder buttons be a gun special. Besides, Vergil's 'demon-dodge' was a Trick Up.

Wait... I was going somewhere with this...

Well, but the shoulder buttons are all used up. You only have four buttons there, so you have the Dodge button, Lock-On, and then the Angel and Demon modes. DmC's control scheme is the way it is because it's what's comfortable and intuitive for the common player's hands. Trying to do a Demon Dodge on only the right shoulder buttons is...not all that great >.<

I also don't care for the angel and demon modes. I think it's kinda lame that they traded the style system for something that is basically weapon changing mixed with light and heavy attacks. But anyway. It's not that hard to preform a demon dodge using R2 and L1 or likewise and angel dodge with L2 an R1. Like I said "My personal opinion"

I still think it could've been shoved into one feature. Angel Dash for "normal" dodging (regardless of which weapon you have), and when you time it right, you can have demon-dodge.

Or better yet... 'demon-release' (shut up, I know that sounds nasty, but there you go).

This way, you can dodge any way you want, including though the enemy in front of you.

It's really an amalgamation of both Style and Weapons, really. You have the different weapons aligned to each of the stances, but then you also have certain functions intuitively aligned as well, like all expedient movement on Angel mode (Glide, Lift, Dodge,).

But anyway. It's not that hard to preform a demon dodge using R2 and L1 or likewise and angel dodge with L2 an R1.

That's...the whole point of why the default controls have two dodge buttons :x
