Honestly, I believe that to be true of the whole series now.
Kojima Studios should have left it at Metal Gear Solid 4, and moved on.

Peace Walker was damn good, though. Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain look great, but I'm getting tired of Big Boss' stories. I'd actually like it if they just started making more side-stuff, like how Ghost Babel for the Game Boy was its own story that acted as a direct sequel to the MSX games and stood in place of MGS1 in the timeline. You get to keep enhance the gameplay, do new things, make self-contained stories, and it's easier for people not familiar with the series to get into it, which would help on deterred sales.

Sorry, I gush about Ghost Babel a lot...it's one of my favorite Metal Gear games, and for me it was a technical marvel on the Game Boy Color. And c'mon, don't tell me this doesn't look badass...

I'm surprised others here have even heard of Ghost Babel. Easily one of my favorite handheld titles.
As for Peace Walker, it was good on many levels. It was fun to play and had an interesting story that didn't just serve the purpose of further convoluting the over arching plot of the series. I enjoyed it as well.

Maybe my ten year long dedication to the series is finally waning, or I am legitimately angered by Hideo's latest decisions (Hayter's replacement, splitting apart Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain, etc...) and I'm finally coming to grips that a series like this couldn't sustain itself for this long without deteriorating.
No matter, I probably still will end up getting both Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain, because I am a Metal Gear fan.

Also, I'm happy to know I'm not the only one who misses Solid Snake.

Batman: Arkham Origins all the way for me. I bet a ton of people agree...

UH, I MEAN. I'M TOTALLY NOT THE ONE PERSON WHO VOTED FOR ARKHAM ORIGINS.

Don't worry, I voted same as you. Sooner or later, they'll all come to our side.... *kicks box of cookie bribes, mysterious chemical containers, and the Mad Hatter's hats out of view and whistles innocently*

Well, MGR disappointed me. I should've kept my expectations in check seeing how the project was riddled with problems since its conception. And taking a step back, Platinum's reboot was pretty admirable given the tight deadline. I also appreciate the new kind of combat they went for, an evolution of Bayonetta's "offense as a defense" with style ripped out. It was pretty effective for such a vanilla approach. But yeah, probably the weakest Clover / Platinum game I've played.

OK, I'll play 100+ more hours on the PC port, BUT THAT'S IT!

Why isn't the Wii U port of Battletoads on this list!?
I'm pretty sure it got ported to the Nintendo E-Shop. So now that we can actually say we have Battletoads for Wii. We should take the trolling to the next step and make it GOTY

Must be the Wii U sales. I don't know...

HELL YEAH!

I'm sorry guys, but due to better boss battles, faster gameplay, and a more fun protagonist

MGR wins it for me

I think MGR's boss battles do defiantly take the cake, also despite his change in design and split personality, I would much rather play as Raiden.

MGR and DmC, respectively. But talking about "action games" is so generic that you can put a lot of very, very different things together like FPSs and games like The Last of Us. I've played The Last of Us recently (not finished it, tho) and the game does not aim to give you "action", properly saying, but rather an imersive survival experience, it's a good game with it aims to do, but definitely not a game to be taken serious in the action/combat department.

I guess MGR was really an NG game with the MG label, not DMC as what many DMC fans claim... -_-
Not at all. Siding with MGR was just some weird form of spite.

Most of them were not even Metal Gear fans. I thought it was funny to see these DMC fans always bring up Devil May Cry in Metal Gear discussions I was in on and people were like "Just get out please. Nobody cares that your flamboyant animu guy got a haircut. We're talking Metal Gear."

This was around the time The Phantom Pain was showing its pretty little face too. Like many MG fans were REALLY talking about the short lived hack n slasher spinoff that mostly just the butthurt DMC fanboys cared about.

It was also stupid seeing Kamiya's named associated with the damn thing. I don't know how many times I saw that. I think they think it's Kamiya's company or something and he's a part of everything P* where in reality he's only responsible for like 2 of their brands.

I am a bigger Metal Gear fan than Devil May Cry so I wanted a lot more from that game and it totally disappointed me. I've seen P* do better and it's still suppose to be a Metal Gear game and I just feel it lacking.

Still can't wait for the newest MGS. Holy sh!t that games looks flipping amazing.
I've watched the red band trailer for Phantom Pain so many times now. SO GOOD.

The Last of Us feels more like a survival horror game. That's what I consider it anyway. Stealth is one of the core mechanics.

Have you ever played any other Metal Gear?

MGR can't hold a candle to the boss fights the MGS franchise has produced. They have some of the greatest and most memorable boss fights off all time. MGR should bury it's head in shame.

I'm fine with Kiefer Sutherland doing Big Boss but, it's just the way Hayter was let go bugs me. I grew up with the guy and him to Snake is like how Kevin Conroy is to Batman.

Who knows, maybe Hayter is still on board in some way shape or form. It wouldn't be the first time Kojima has kept things secret from us. Never know what to expect with the guy and David does voice Solid Snake first and foremost. Another guy voiced Big Boss at the end of MGS 4. Plus Kiefer is not a bad choice at all. The dude's a pretty good actor. I'm at least glad they got someone who's competent and has some talent.

There's nothing we can do about it though. I gotta be honest here, David Hayter doesn't sound like a real person doing Snake. It's iconic nonetheless but, for a darker Metal Gear story that voice may take you out of it for a sec. It has in the past. Especially in 4 where I'm like geez Snake, have you been smoking brillo pads lol?

Big Boss is my favorite MG character and I can't wait to see this story unfold. He's making that full transition to villain and Outer Heaven is coming.

I can't call it "horror", even if it has some "dense" atmosphere sometimes, i haven't feel horrified while playing it; kinda like the first DMC game has some horror going on but i can't call it a "horror" game at all. But yeah, i think it can be called a "survival horror", it tries offer some realistic survival experience, even weapon swapping has long animations and you have to think twice before engaging in any kind of combat. I sucked in the first segments trying to be nimble and using stealth, but then i get the hang of it, one of the last segments i've finished is the one where you enter a building, it's dark as ****, and you have like 4 clickers and 1 normal zombie in the room; this part i managed to go through with stealth, throw bricks and bottles to draw the clickers attention, the only thing i wasted was a molotov to kill all them in the same time.
