DmC, DINO: What's in a (nick)Name?

Dino sounds better, and like Moses said you can also use it to describe both the character and the game. I don't see what's the problem. Its not a derogatory name or anything like that. I think people are getting uptight over nothing.

Are you offended because he isn't actually in accord with emo fashion or because of the negative connotation assumed by people when they call him emo? It sounds like the former, which isn't that big of a deal. The emo label primarily refers to his black hair, I think, and his thinner (opposite of wide) clothing. I suppose he is closer to grunge than emo though. I'm not sure how that relates to your own fashion choices, since you even describe yourself as dressing emo...

Dread: You have any nicknames to offer?

it's the negative connotations they attach with the word emo...if that style of dress is emo (which it isn't) then the people saying that seem to believe anyone who doesn't dress like a prep is...or at least anyone who dresses similarly to this Dante....and that's what's offensive....people hear emo and they think of people with borderline personality disorder...even if they don't know what BPD is, they connect those dots....just because of what is shown in the media and mainstream...basically they say anyone who listens to metal and outwardly expresses that in fashion is emo...and it doesn't even go to that level

As far as the new Dante goes I personally don't really care what he looks like anymore, I'm just happy there is a new DMC game coming out. As long as Ninja Theory gets the game play down I'll be happy. IMO though, I think Donte is the best nickname I've heard. Whenever I see DINO I think of Fred Flinstone's pet dinosaur. And yes I know what it means :P lol

@GamblingGambitCloud
Not to sound off topic but after clicking on your sig FOREVER I was expecting a message a little better than that one :P lmao It was funny though.

But back on topic, I have my own personal philosophy when it comes to negative nicknames or any form of verbal abuse for that matter. I believe that words only hurt as much as you allow them to. I find it RIDICULOUS when fights or whatever happen because "He/she called me *insert phrase here*." To me it's just like, REALLY?? You're going to get so upset over that?? So in regards to people calling the new Dante "emo" I think they can call him whatever the hell they want. I personally don't think he looks "emo" but that's just my opinion, and they can have their opinion as well. They do have that right. All IMO btw ^_^

^ Well said. I don't think he looks emo so much as a drug addict and a Twilight reject. "*gasp* Oh my gosh but he doesn't look anything like that!" Weeell that's what I think. Take it or leave peoples.

Honestly, people are getting so upset and angry over what someone labels the new Dante as. If it offends you, then I'm sorry, but its all subject to personal opinion and I'm not going to change my opinion simply because someone disagrees. And I doubt anyone else would either.

Come on, there are certainly "emo" elements to him. Skinny build, dark side parting, flappy kind of jacket, tight dark trousers, and he looks moody. I know that "emo" doesn't really fit it entirely, but if you want to pigeon hole him, I think that's the most appropriate word. You could say "goth", but he lacks the make up and anything else heavy. he doesn't look heavy metal, sporty, preppy or nerdy. He also doesn't look like something out of fantasy, anime, or Japan. Emo is the closest, chamone.

Well, the general understanding is that emo people have a certain hairstyle and a certain type of dress that echoes goth, and that they are concerned with sulking around about how lame the world is, etc. It isn't about BPD, and I doubt anyone believes emos listen to metal, as those would be called metalheads and they dress differently. You seem to figure emo as some kind of anti-establishment thing, which is different than the popular conception, making it irrelevant since there is no international consortium of emoness to define the term.

But I think grunge is a better term from now on, except referring to his hair. Grunge does imply a kind of lack of care for one's appearance that he exhibits.

The popular conception of emo is BPD....the sulking...the identity crisis....the drugs...and cutting.....and wearing those clothes to show that outwardly....but i'll agree with you to some extent that it's an attempt to mirror goth...without so much the makeup and whatnot....regardless....people say emo and right away u think dark and needlessly sulking...which it's not imo....it's a style of fashion...

i think you are right and i'm glad we can agree with grunge ^_^

Well, nothing is ever just a style of fashion. Fashion is how people present themselves to the world and it does imply something about their beliefs or habits, etc. Also, I notice you said "imo," and that is the gist of the issue. We are talking about the popular conception, which you may not agree with, but you are only one person and there is no concrete way to define the term. You could find both types of emos who would describe themselves differently. If you wear emo fashion but don't exhibit those characteristics (although why you would wear the fashion and expect not to be associated with them is anyone's guess), then you may personally call it only a fashion choice, in the same way a skinhead with a swastika on his head could call that a fashion choice. You can't get mad at people for making assumptions based on a carefully crafted, popularized appearance if you choose to adopt that appearance.

I'm sure some grunge fans could take offense to our characterization of him as grungy too, but oh well. That does fit his style more and grunge fans have my sympathy.

I think it's less that he doesn't take care of himself than he can't take care of himself. Like, he has no reason and no real need to, and even if he did, he wouldn't have time because of whatever agency that used him as an experiment would probably be hot on his ass.

Yes, and that does coincide with the grunge look, although his is by necessity. It does kind of conflict with the idea that he dyes his hair though, unless they have a hair salon in the resistance underground or wherever.

He probably doesn't dye his hair. It's probably just starting to turn white and he was born with black hair.

That's what I think. Although it doesn't seem to be turning white so much as he has always had a white patch on top. I think it will go fully white in the course of the game or during DT.

Yeah, I think so too. If you look, he has white roots too.

Well, I already got use to call him DINO so I shall continue to call him so until I play the game. Concerning his hair, I guess that he is on the stage of puberty and its now that everything is going to develop and his hair is going to turn white revealing his what he really is...just like human boys get their voice deepen, beard and so on, DINO is going to have all this plus his hair turning white...

He looks well past puberty to me. And you can just call the character Dino. I use DINO for the game itself.

Nante or Neo Dante does seem to be the best option for optimists so far.

I think Dante suffices well enough.

Although I still stick with Hunny-Bun.
And if you're a guy, you can call him Jackass, because he's bound to still be one. Dante wouldn't be Dante if he was nice, I mean COME ON!

How about Chain Boy, or The Hated One, or That Guy, or The Martyr, or The Chimney. It's all degrading and pessimistic names to refer to DmC Dante, no better and no worse than what other fans have come up with.

...Hunny-Bun wins hands down for me though. ^_^

How about old Dante is White Chocolate, and new Dante is Dark Chocolate?
