DmC, DINO: What's in a (nick)Name?

This thread is for people to whine and complain about nicknames for DmC such as DINO or Donte, and to suggest nicknames which they find less offensive. I'm making it to move the discussion out of the picture thread.

Please continue the discussion here.

Asmo, if you are taking a merely descriptive acronym that personally, I'd say the issue is with you, not anyone else. In any case, you can hate it and take offense from it all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that it is merely an expression of sentiments caused by Capcom's decision to totally change the game. It isn't immature, it is merely an expedient means of distinguishing the old series and character from the new series and character. It's kind of like how we call the series DMC instead of Devil May Cry, or how we refer to the last president of the US as "W." It seems like you are the one acting childish here, getting worked up over mere labels. Remember, "sticks and stones..."

But you know, if it bothers you that much, just make your own catchy "positive" designation for the game and be done with it. I doubt you can top the elegance, utility, and ingenuity (if I do say so myself ) of DINO, but if you want to have a go at it, then be my guest.

This reminds me of all the drama regarding the "War on Christmas."

(Also, just FYI, any optimism for the DINO is baseless right now and irrational when compared to skepticism or outright hatred, that is simply a fact. Still, I don't think the problem is your optimism so much as your denigration of the pessimists. You can love the series as much as you want, but don't tell everyone who doesn't love it as much as you do that we can't hate it or be spitefully apathetic.)

Well I didn't know what the hell DINO was until someone told me. Donte I heard of for a bit and see it on other sites, but I don't see DINO much except for here.

I dont really care what the nicknames are, offensive or not, this DmC game deserves it imo.

The reason DINO isn't used on other sites, except IGN, is because I coined it in a flash of brilliance.

But really, it is pretty straightforward and very useful IMO. Donte can only apply to the character, but DINO can apply to the series and character.

i say stick with what you've been using and just ignore the griping. people are too sensitive.

Agreed. You know something is up when people get upset over the nickname for a game and character they don't really know anything about.

Yeah you got a good point there Meg. We have a right to use whatever nickname for him we want and if people want to say other wise, then we could come up with one even worse. And it doesn't help protecting something you don't know of in the first place.

I agree, it's just a game name for Dante. If you prefer to use DINO then all the power to ya. It's not racial and it isn't directed to anyone but Dante.

Well it's not different to fans calling Vergil things like Vergie, Verge, or as I gained the nickname for him during my RP days, Veggie. That's all in fan admiration though. Dino and Fake Dante and such are of a more negative feel. And I thought Donte was just a spelling mistake, like people misspell Vergil as Virgil sometimes. LOL!
Anyway, each to their own I guess.

I still have dibs on calling Dante my Hunny-Bun.

By the way, no one should get offended or mad about nicknames for the characters on a fan base. I know a few people who laughed their heads off when I informed them about Dino. xD

Also, I don't know if hunny-bun really helps distinguish the two.

I've always thought that the various Dante's could use their own nicknames so we didn't have to say "DMCX Dante" everytime we refer to them. I propose a few:
DMC1 Dante = OGD
DMC2 Dante = Mutey D
DMC3 = Fratboy D
