Dante and Raiden... DmC and MGR... Why choose?

You don't need to have a Japanese PS3 to use the Japanese PSN. You just make a new user, a new PSN account, and set it being in Japan. There's plenty of guides on how to do it on YouTube :P
I think I'm going to do this now because I really feel like playing Rising. :)

Wrong. The demo is region locked. Even if you make a japanese PSN account and download it from JP PSN, it won't work unless the PS3 is japanese.

It's stupid of Konami to do this.

Damn. :/ Well nevermind I guess I'll just have to wait for Rising to release on PSN. :(

That's...wow...

Well, you can still easily get a JP PSN Account :p

I don't understand why I should choose which game to play either... I've already got both pre-ordered so why bother picking one or the other to "show loyalty?"

Also, whoever said that only "real" fans of Metal Gear Solid will not play Rising, kindly **** off, because I've played and owned all the MGS games, even Peace Walker.

My avatar now has black hair.

As for the original DMC, it was basically just a ''Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage'' (a DC hack n' slash) clone with guns and Virtua Fighter 3 juggle physics added. The look that Dante had was basically a ripoff of Blade, only red instead of black. Dante himself was pretty much just a modern version of Fierce Deity Link and Alucard.

I can even point to Inuyasha and his katana-wielding evil brother for inspiration.

Both Fierce Deity and Alucard had white hair and huge swords. Alucard even had a flowing red cape that was found in the upside down castle (Majora's Mask also had an upside down section... something DMC also had towards the end of the game)). I don't know why people are still claiming originality for the old series at this point.

I merely stated that I wanted something different. DmC is different. It's greater than the sum of its parts. Just don't say that it copied anything, because the old DMC is just as guilty of doing so as well.

Dante's original design was based off of Space Adventure Cobra. He literally look almost exactly like him, and then they gave Dante a trenchcoat at some point late in development - so late in fact there are images in DMC1 of Dante with his shorter jacket :p

Yeah. I forgot about that.

I remember reading it off one of the first interviews in GamePro when DMC1 came out.

Even back then though, I thought he looked a little too much like Fierce Deity Link. I'm pretty sure the ''Cobra'' thing was just to make sure that no one sued. I'm also certain that SAC was all too happy for the ''tangential exposure'' from having Dante look so much like him.

I remember when GamepPro said that ''This is what Castlevania 64 should have been.'' I was irked by that snide comment. So, DMC takes the Castlevania ''Horror Action'' mantle away from Konami and all of a sudden everyone acts as though it's the Second Coming. Does no one remember Sword of the Berserk??

Besides, copying is still copying, no matter that the source comes from. It's still taking an idea from someone else, no matter how much you claim to be ''inspired'' by it. I just wish that people would stop calling it, ''original''.

About the leather jacket: I also remember the developer saying that they gave it to him because they wanted a ''dynamic battle mechanic'' to flow along with the combat, or something of that sort.

Or maybe someone saw Alucard's flowing cape during combat and said: ''Let's hold off on this game another few months to make him look cooler, even though it has absolutely no effect on the combat itself!''

Brilliant. Someone give that man a raise.

Anyway, I also know that the sword-juggling mechanic was ''taken from a bug in Onimusha'', but, I'm pretty sure they only said that to (once again) avoid having people accuse them of copying Virtua Fighter...or maybe even Soul Edge.

Never said "real" fans - just curious as to why a stealth gamer would want a hack n' slash game like Rising. I like both MGS and MGR (ish) as well but idk why Platinum chose to do a Metal Gear hack n' slash rather than a new ip :S.

Well, it was either that or MGR just doesn't happen at all... I would consider this the lesser of two evils. I'm not particularly happy with the direction it went in, but if it's fun then it's fun, and I'll gladly play through it.
