Check out the same trailer but in Japanese!

Awake

Under the Promised Flag
I'm pretty sure some of you have seen it for those who haven't here is the same almost 2 min long trailer for DMC 4 SE but with Japanese VA...How many of those VA can you recognize!

So...the better trailer, essentially (in my opinion. Sorry, but I've found the voice-acting in DMC to be ridiculously-hammy since 3).

I don't recognize any of those... I generally don't watch things in Japanese... and besides, I've always liked the English voice acting in Devil May Cry (except 2, and especially in 3 and 4). For me, DMC is in English, period. I cringed when they added Italian VA in DmC. Not because the actors were bad, just because hearing DMC in any language other than English is weird for me now.

Well Dante's VA is sephiroth, ichigo's dad, Minato and a bunch of awesome characters, Vergil's is byakuya from bleach and Nero and Kyrie are Ichigo and orihime....

I thought it was a nice touch they called VA's of Dante, Trish and Lady from DMC anime for this, even though only Dante's voice rang a bell in this, and even that barely since he is more cheerful this time. XD

Japanese voice acting will always sound better than any other, except maybe German. They know how to put feeling into it and their language in general serves better for dramatic performance.

Spanish is best.

Still hilarious.

I'd like to call bullshit on that.
Japanese voice acting has a very dated tone to how they go about things. Most of it seems to use the styles of those old 70's and 80's anime and has yet to really grow. In fact, most of Japan seems to not want to move from their nostalgia of 70's and 80's.
But back to the subject matter; no, I don't think Japanese voice acting is better, because unless a Japanese voice actor has a pitch of voice that differentiates themselves from other Japanese VAs, then they'll just be thrown into the "male/female voice #53542" category, which is what Nero and Vergil's voices, to my ears, are.

Yeah, to your ears.

To my ears English voice acting is painful most of the time. In the games it's much better, with certain sad exceptions, but in anime they have a lot of trouble with placing the emphasis on right spot, women most often sound strangely high-pitched and only able to breathe once their part has been said entirely, sometimes I expect the male voice to start talking about this great deal for car insurance, accents are tolerable when anime is set in modern times, but American accent can really kill the feeling when used in feudal Japan...

I don't say Japanese voice acting is perfect, far from it, but it helps me immerse myself into whatever I'm watching or playing much better.

No.
Not then, not now, not ever.

@WolfOD64 don't forget Goku. Goku's Japanese VA's voice sounds friggin ridiculous.
I watched DB and DBZ with German dub, they were quite good. It's why up there I mentioned German voice acting as one that is a perfectly good replacement.

So I have a good opinion on Japanese voice acting and a poor one of English voice acting. The horror. English voice acting sound good in western cartoons, but is it the fact the text is translated from Japanese or what, but they rarely achieve the same quality in anime.

I'm not into anime so I dunno. But one thing I know: for me, DBZ in English > Japanese. Goku in Japanese, as far as I'm concerned, is a prime example of how bad Jap VA can be even in anime.

I can't find DBZ in Japanese, they are all with English dub, so I'll just have to take your word for it. *shrugs*
I'd still rather pick Japanese voice acting than any other in case of drama and horror, out of experience. The least I deserve is not being screamed at by certain people when I express my opinion as such.

Are you by chance from germany?
I find it weird to listen to german dubs because since the DBZ days the voice acting declined in most shows, besides that nowadays I like to play my games in english most of the time, as the german dub (if there is one) kills my ears. DmC and the DMC Anime are good examples of that. But to each their own I guess.

No, I'm from Croatia, but with my country not being so much into anime, for some time I had to rely on satellite TV and German stations. Haven't watched anything from there for quite a number of years, I must admit though.

Japanese VA for Goku does have a bit weird voice, it's not very manly, I gather it's a bad result of trying to fit to the type of the character (mythological monkey Goku).

But here, this is the version I grew up with...

Sorry viper but I kinda laughed at this I can't take it seriously in german lmao

and it is a woman who voices goku in japanese

*shrugs* I speak German, so it's just another language to me. I gather it's funny to you cause without knowledge it's pretty much gibberish.

Women usually voice children in Japan, now I'm curious what the director was thinking.
