Anyone else think that they should make a film for devil may cry

To be honest, I don't see what's there to mess up. It's just a movie - I'm sure it's not going to be extremely based on anything. If it were, then what is the point of the movie to begin with? Why make a movie that is exactly like the games, or tells the same story? I don't know about you, but I'd be happy if they make something that's a new take on Devil May Cry. Just like I wouldn't want the X-Men movies to tell exactly the same story already told in the comics.

And even if it were *based on* one of the games (DMC or DmC), there's nothing to mess up. The games have nothing to do with a future movie. They are not canonically linked; the movie won't have any effect on the games, right? They can do with the movie whatever they want. If they mess it up, that's a shame - we'd have one more crappy movie based on a video game - but it's not going to sour the games for me. Why would it?

Maybe not for you but a video game to movie says a lot the source material and how much that director cares. A half assed Devil May Cry movie wont really paint a pretty picture for the game series.

Plus like I said; they're free to mess up the movie with the old series. I'd hate to see DmC tampered with by hollywood cliches.

DmC is already tampered by hollywood cliches.

DmC seems like a more easy fit when it comes to translating into Western media. Sexy main male protagonist bad boy to get the shallow female audience, a plot that is part basically a super popular conspiracy and trend in American culture, a stand off scene, epic car chase sequences, and an overly cinematic final showdown where the heroes technically destroys a part or the entire city or is partly responsible for it. Lets not forget it takes heavy influence from Western media (Fight Club, They Live, etc).

DmC was made for the big screen.

DMC is more suited for a CGI film (ala Final Fantasy Advent Children and Resident Evil Damnation) or an anime movie (Bayonetta got one).

Plus with the popularity of over the top action styled movies that are a bit silly like the Avengers and Pacific Rim proves something like Devil May Cry could work out quite well in the west among Americans.

But you're sort of right....plus how the movie portrays the source material can affect the original series like the Resident Evil movies being all action packed and soon the games were too.

So much this. DmC has a perfect hollywood plot. The characters personality and appearances could translate pretty easily into live action for a western audience which is why they are most likely going to use DmCs plot for the movie. It is pretty much the opposite for DMC. It would make a lot more sense to make it a CG movie that way it will be seen mostly by fans and people who have an interest in the series already.

This might work. I hear Classic Dante would be starred on this instead of DmC Dante. Let's see how it would turn out...

How so? When I think about the Resident Evil games, my mind goes to the games, not how the movies based on them turned out. Most of the RE movies are pretty bad, but that doesn't make me like the games less. Or do you mean that *people who aren't familiar with the games* might look at the movies and think that the games draw inspiration from it, instead of the other way around? That I can agree with, but they'd still have to just try the games.

Yeah...but this is Hollywood. Which one do you really think they're gonna pick?

I guess. But I remember a friend of mine whose never seen DBZ at all watched the movie and was like "UGH! DBZ sucks!! How do people watch this stupid crap?! It's just a show about some high school kid becoming a superhero!! BORING!!"

All I could do was stare at him with a shaking head and go; "No..."

Yeah, I guess the movie at least needs to be Devil May Cry-ish, whether that's just DmC or a mix of DmC and DMC. It needs to do the games some justice.

If they're gonna do a DMC movie its gotta be DmC with some classic DMC touches. The plot must be something "The Matrix" like.

And I don't like Dante having no underwear since the first DMC. Instead of a trailer, how about an abandoned warehouse.

Considering how most video game movies barely follow the source material or is an altered version of the source material and seeing how this movie is a fusion of DMC and DmC or is DmC setting and plot but with DMC Dante.....it seems.

The movie is obviously titled Devil May Cry and not DmC: Devil May Cry so its not entirely a DmC movie as its a movie about the Devil May Cry games.

I feel that if this movie blows big time both DMC and DmC will be negatively affected but if its successful or has a positive reception it can help create a positive image for both.

Capcom will most likely have a say in the movie's production just the RE and SF movies.....although....and considering how it seem Capcom don't seem to have any plans for DmC anytime soon and seems to at least have interest in DMC they could alter the movie's direction to include more direction to DMC rather than straight up being a DmC movie. It is their series and Capcom in the past did turn down the original script for the first RE movie, which had a stronger emphasis on horror, and we got well........those instead.

It also depends what representative from Capcom is managing the movie along side the studio with the Legend of Chun Li it was Keiji Inafune.......which was an horrible idea considering he had barely any involvement with the SF series and his westernization phase during that time period it would've been better to have Ono or anyone who was a producer or director for any past SF games the movie probably would've at least had some of SF charms or something close to the Rob Vam Dam SF movie. I'll rather watch all of that movie over a milli-sec0nd of the Legend of Chun Li.

Now if its someone from the Japan branch that isn't Eshiro the movie will have a lot of DMC/Japanese influence (over the top action, cheesy heroic one liners, more DMC characters) or if its Eshiro or anyone from the US branch like Gregaman or that black guy who said some stuff during DmC (forgot his name) it might have a lot of DmC influence or a neutral of the 2. Just my take on it.

Ok it might explain why the movie is in development hell. No words on actors, plot, or anything and its been like 2-3 years since they announced it so for all we know the movie may have been cancelled or got altered.....a lot.

Yes and it should be based on DMC1 or DMC3

Based on what I heard my hypothesis is that it will be DMC movie with a DMC2 styled plot with a cross between DMC1 and DMC4 Dante and DMC3 characters and a DmC villain (Mundus probably) with a mixture of DMC1 and DmC backstory.

So we'll have DMC1/4 Dante fighting DmC Mundus with DMC3 Lady and Vergil, DmC type of world mixed with DMC2 darkness, and..........to put it short DmC but with DMC Dante.

Or better yet DmC without the Nephilim and Angel VS Demon aspect.

It'll be like Dragonball Evolution.
i wathced dragon ball evolution...and to my dismay, its pretty much what everybody would be asking for. its a cheesy anime chiche filled light hearted action flick. its basically dragon ball z...but live action

Yeah but it f*cks up the source material so terribly.

A movie about Devil May Cry in geberal sounds sketchy. A movie about Devil May Cry BY SCREEN GEMS...yeeah no.

Plus the fact that its basedoff DmC puts me on edge. I actually LIKE DmC and I dont want hollywood to mess it up. It can do whatever it wants with the original series since there's more to mess up for hollywood.

Not like it can't be done, buuuuut if hollywood wants to mess up something, I'd rather they pick the most popular version as a cash cow.
if i know anything, this movie will be hated regardless. it could be the best damn cinematic experience that holds true to the source material and expresses sub themes that make cloud atlas look like a one trick pony, with spectacular visuals, amazing character development, and could be a box office success...and it would still be hated. by the studios, the fans, and everyone. because everybody hates videogame movies

They should!

They gotta do something to impress the audience and make vid game movies popular somehow.

Considering the success and quality rate of videogames turned into movies then I remember wait there is more.....

Devil May Cry is a Japanese video game series....check.

Its made by Capcom.....check.

Legend of Chun Li and all those terrible Resident Evil were recent....double check.

This movie will suck.

I have zero expectations.....I at least hope the action is good.

I can't think of one video game to movie that I have enjoyed. If they want it to be at least a bit fun to watch, just mindlessly follow the plot (Dragonball Evolution is a good example of how bad a movie can get when you mess with the plot) and put some flashy good looking action scenes in there. To be honest they should just make it really campy. Look at the opening scene to any DMC (even the new one) The plot just gets thrown right in your face with a really over the top fight scene. Do that with the whole movie. Pacific Rim is a perfect example of what to do. Really simple and straight forward plot with amazing fight scenes.
