Projector was from Amazon - screen was from ebay, but shop around and see what you can find. Steve spent quite a bit of time asking on AV forums what people there had got set up and how they managed it. The brand of projector is called Optoma Gametime GT-7000 or some such nonsense - Amazon have a cheeky habit of changing their prices every few days so it's worth just having a look around.
You can get away without a screen if you have a smooth light coloured wall - white or cream is best - but you can get different screen sizes, I believe. And probably fix them to the slant and aim the projector accordingly. The one we've got is portable - you can sit it on the coffee table or the floor and still get a perfect image without slanting because they are on a pivot and can be angled.
Seriously, dead space in the dark on something that size is terrifying...truly terrifying...
Well, our living room isn't all that big, really. We've got the projector on a shelf on the wall on one side and the screen is hanging from the ceiling in front of the opposite wall which is less than 4 metres away. I thought we'd both go blind trying to watch it but it works really well and doesn't make your eyes bleed :lol:
It's HD ready - the picture is crystal clear though, looks much better than our TV did and that was an HD TV. You can make the picture as big or as small as you like so if you are playing Arcade games or the old XBOX (not 360) games then the image is super sharp and fantastic quality. The actual resolution adapts according to what you are watching/playing which is pretty sweet - the whole set-up, including screen, only cost about £450. -
