New characters for DMC6

Ronin

With Nero in charge of looking after mankind, what'll be next for DMC in 6th game?

How many characters do you picture being playable?

I'd imagine Vergil as protagonist with Nero. Maybe have two new characters: a new summoner and maybe a new partner for Nero to fight alongside with on the battlefield.

  • If Nero did have a new partner on his crew with Nico, he has the punches with his Devil Bringer & Breakers, so he could have a partner with fast legs & kicks. Devil Breakers for legs maybe?
  • How about for villains? Nero will need enemies of his own. This is Nero's line of work now, so maybe something technological with demonology?
  • And since Nico with Nell Goldstein's legacy, maybe a new character carrying Machiavelli's legacy. I mean what would you name the guy? Beethoven? Mozart?

Isn't Vergil in Hell with Dante? So unless two fossils return, I don't see Vergil in protagonist role.

Personally, I would like at least most of the game to focus on Nero, and maybe introduce a new character. Now, we have had humans and half-demons as playable characters, but I would like a full demon for the next game, and for game to explore - and question - his/her motivations for turning to humanity. Maybe the game itself could be a "redemption" or "rise to grace"/"Heel-Face Turn" arc type, although I imagine telling such a story properly might not be an easiest task. This could be told in the primary story, or else a plot B / expansion / spinoff.

For villains, well, demons are common knowledge now. So an Umbrella/UAC type corporation experimenting on demons and opening hell gates for such a purpose would be a logical, if perhaps unoriginal, villain. This could then include hybrids of demonic powers with technology, and even demons with technology (kinda like DOOM series).

Maybe while the brothers can go after Mundus, Nero can go have enemies of his own. I like the idea of a new corporation that can be almost similar to the Order. Maybe a new military unit with Devil Hunters of their own. Imagine if there are some evil Devil Hunters that view all demons & those similar to demons as a threat to mankind. Some want revenge, some want purity.

But Nero will want to change all that. And Nero will need a partner of his own on the battlefield with him. Maybe a new summoner after V?

Vergil has Yamato and because 4 revealed it can open portals or something, couldn't he just come back on his own if he wanted?

I thought about Dante having a guide when he was stuck in hell after 2 so maybe you can develop a new character with an existing connection to Dante? Maybe he/she could be a future love interest?

I thought about Nero's mom being a summoner. V's familiars being Vergil's nightmares is poorly explored so i thought about using her as a way to explore it. I'm not sure if she's still alive.

I never thought about that before, but this actually raises the question of if this retcon potentially undercuts previous games somewhat.

Like the end of 3 when Vergil lets himself be "trapped" in Hell despite (now retconned) having the key to escaping all along. Or how Mundus was trying to return to the Human World and yet had Vergil and Yamato under his complete control... :bored:

If Lucia won't be of any interest and perhaps Vie De Marli would be wiped out, a new love interest for Dante would be nice. A new demoness.

Maybe someone similar like Sareena from MK:

In 3 Vergil wanted Sparda's power and wasn't really entering or leaving the demon world. You could assume he raised Temen-ni-gru for the force edge rather than the gate- the gate is just a side effect.

He does bring up the gate at the end of mission 20 but thats for Dante to make a decision. Maybe dante didn't know Yamato could do that?

Sure.

@Picard
Maybe you could play the villain for laughs or find a cool gimmick for them?

What I meant about 3 was the climax where Vergil chooses to stay in Hell and Dante cries because he thinks he's lost his brother forever.

Then in DMC 4 he explains to Nero in their second fight that he wants the Yamato back because of its power to manipulate dimensions. It feels like it retroactively undercuts the emotion in that prior scene because Dante reveals he knew all along that Vergil had the key to escaping Hell.

But I digress, this is going off topic.

Yeah, that could work. Humans equipped with specialized anti-demon weapons could make for good opponents, and seeing how humanity is now aware of demons, not just militaries but also PMC's will be preparing to fight them.

EDIT:

I would like to play a character undergoing a heel-face-turn/redemption arc. Note: not a character that has undergone it, but one going through it, during the game. As in, the game itself is a tale of how he/she came to care for the humanity.

I just wish something similar to the Ascension Ceremony can work on such hunters.

Plus how would you picture an apprentice/disciple of Machiavelli - the one who created demon weapons like Artemis?

And I can imagine a new demoness who’d be like a new love interest for Dante than Lucia.

@Picard
I know, i was just thinking about the corporation you mentioned.

Maybe have the client be a whistleblower?

@Ronin
Just have a group of hunters recreate the process because they are desperate.

@Lain
Its something for the brothers to talk about. ;)

Well, if corporation is experimenting on demon powers, it is not outside the realm of possible for them to develop something akin to Ascension Ceremony. Maybe even something superior to what was given to Order mooks, so you end up with soldiers that are similar to Super Soldiers from Prototype.

That would definitely work. In fact, you could have client remain within the corporation and send clues to Nero - information about what corporation is doing, their progress and plans, etc. And you keep hunting down and destroying "secret" laboratories.

This may be cheating but i wanna see the cast of Darkstalkers incorporated into a future DMC title.

Come on its the easiest crossover to write: they are demons, he's a demon hunter ;). Its the literary equivalent of easy pickings.

Just give me Dante/Vergil versus Jedah Dohma.

Anybody here have thoughts about original characters for the next DMC? We need a brand new cast! Something fresh.

Most of what I will say have already been said in another topic, but since it is the topic for new idee for character, here we go :

I would like to see a character who would be a slow, but strong character to play. For now, almost every character is a agile demon hunter. The complete opposite could be interesting. A big muscle house with a gameplay playing around big AOE and grab. Many AOE with different effect which could be delayed or extended, and an advanced Buster with more options like dragging the target in an AOE or into a wall, launching him upward, tossing him, slamming him to the ground with a bouncing effet to keep the combo going... For AOE, most of them would be the man slaming energy into the ground and have it burst out somewhere else. We could have many type : fire wall, circle of flame around the player, classic explosion, etc. For defence, a advanced Royal Guard system with again more option for counter attack and with less option to dodge, the player would have to rely mostly on the guard.

For the apparence, something like Armstrong from Metal Gear Rising. Same for personality, but with him believing in humanity and hating demons. He would be a military, and lost something dear during an demonic invasion (the Temen Ni Gru rise).

He would be a antagonist at the beginning, and become playable later on. He would be the boss of a corportation doing research on demons (like Umbrella, but with demons). His goal would be to cause an global controlled demonic invasion to show the world the danger demons represented, and Nero would try to stop him. Nero would be too late, and the invasion would go wrong (possibly because of a traitor in the corp working for demons). After that, Nero and the boss would work together to stop the invasion.

The cast feels jaded and cynical so I'd add an optimist to the group.

I keep thinking about Sabo from One Piece or the Eight Doctor from Doctor who.

An idealist who refuses to let the past hold them back.

okay after Watching this character’s trailer, such a fitting character could work somehow.

what would be a way to bring that out for someone who doesn’t let the past hold him/her back?

playstyle?

I always liked the Inner Power trope such as Stands from JOJO, Nen from Yu Yu Hakusho, and the Fullbringers from Bleach.

So id give him one and I think @Hungry Alien 's pitch might benefit from one as well.

The Inner Trope would be something like in Astral Chain then ? From what I saw, the game handle quite well the fighting system. So take inspiration from it and mix it with a revisited V's playstyle could produce a nice gameplay (because for me, V's gameplay suffers heavily from his flaws despite being fun to play)

And why do Ronin feels like a hidden member of the DMC team trying to gather info ? :D

Will we introduce a new "stand user" character in the mix since Nero's Stand?

How about a new character who's a zoanthrope with a touch of Code Vein''s Blood Veins? Perhaps think Altered Beast & Castlevania's Cornell.
