what kind of movie themes do you wish to see more?

i got three

1. ancient egypt.. so watched gods of egypt, it was bad, but it reminds me of how rare this were, the only good movie as i remembered with that theme is star gate, and it was more of a sci fi..

2. vikings.. i always forgot about 13th warrior being one of my fave movies.. it was nicely done and so dark, the other good one that i could remember was pathfinder with karl urban.. something about the vikings that are so interesting..

3. aliens thriller and space.. pandorum was probably the last nice original movie with this theme that i could remember, had high hopes for prometheus but, it was-- prometheus

and you might want to suggest each other about it

Um, what? There's been plenty of gory horror movies in recent years. So much so, that it's almost like horror directors think copious amounts of blood and gore = scary. Where have you been?

Granted, I am a gore hound. I love stuff like Evil Dead, and will admit without shame I enjoyed every Saw movie. (even though the first film is the best being legitimately good and not just a guilty pleasure) but even I will tell you that just huge amounts of gore, a scary movie does not make.

As for what I'd like to see in movies.

Going off your ancient Egypt thing, I'd like to see more horror movies explore that. When's the last time we got a legitimately creepy movie with mummies n sh!t? They're a rather underused movie monster.

Another would be parody, and I mean REAL parody films. Not that Scary Movie BS. I'm talking about like the stuff Mel Brooks use to make like Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs, and Robin Hood: Men in Tights. I think the last legit parody movie I've seen was Kung Pow (still waiting on that sequel), or maybe Tropic Thunder now that I think about it. Does Tropic Thunder count? But anyway, yea, more parody films. MEL BROOKS MAKE SPACEBALLS 2: THE SEARCH FOR MORE MONEY ALREADY FOR FRICK SAKE!

Also, pretty much everything Guillermo Del Toro said he was gonna make.

I swear, Del Toro has the greatest "Almost Made It" filmography like ever. (At The Mountains of Madness pls)

Pfft what? How is that an opinion? I'm just stating facts. There's been tons of R- rated gory horror films in the past decade. To say there isn't is like you haven't been paying attention or watching horror movies.

While that's true for some horror movies, it does however make the horror movie for me so i'll choose to view that as your opinion.
Whatever works for you when it comes to horror doesn't necessarily work for me.

So, you think that the only way to make a good horror movie is to have tons of blood and gore? Granted, you can think that, it is your opinion and that's fine I guess, but why?

There's a lot more to horror than just blood and guts. Some of the greatest horror films of all time don't rely on the gore factor to be tense, thrilling, or scary. Elaborate.

you know, i agree with @Chancey289, there's quite plenty of them but funny thing is i can't remember any of them, but then again maybe because it's not so gory n horror, and sometimes it's just gory.. i watched eli roth's green inferno and some apparently b-movies hoping for something like that, but nope don't meet it..

oh yeah, i'd love that too, wanna see more anubis and ra and the bunch horror style.. have you watched the pyramid btw? it minorily explores that stuff, i kinda enjoyed it, but the script and acting annoys me..

i'm so agreeing space balls and prince of thigts, this genre is kinda forgotten too nowadays..

like the cube or the divide or reedus' air? if it is, i'm loving this type of movies too, and yeah, i don't think we have much of them, if there are, they don't make it to the theatre most of the time

Also just saying, the Evil Dead remake was awesome for that. Seriously, you can't call yourself an Evil Dead fan if you hate that movie. It's everything Evil Dead should be without being a carbon copy of the original.


Movies that prioritize graphic content like gore are stuff like Grotesque and A Serbian Film to me. Also probably 100 Days of Sodom.

By the way, just saying, I do not recommend you google or watch A Serbian Film if sick movies aren't your thing. For one, it isn't a good movie. It's just a movie that exist to try and one up every other sick movie out there. And I truly believe it is a film most people would regret watching.

Remember the 80's when fantasy was everywhere? You had Conan the Barbarian. Flesh & Blood. Excalibur. Labyrnth. Willow. Highlander. The Princess Bride. Hawk the Slayer. Even animated movies leapt on board to bank off of the craze, with attempts like the animated Lord of the Rings, Secret of Nimh, Disney's wildly-underrated the Black Cauldron, and quite possibly the most underrated fantasy cartoon ever, The Last Unicorn.

It's sad that the genre has all but dried out, with only the occasional flop like John Carter and Warcraft rearing its ugly head every few years.

There's word of a Witcher movie on the horizon, or even a film based on Geralt's superior plagiarized predecessor, the Elric the White Wolf. Whatever happens, I want my fantasy films back.

One of the reasons I have to turn to overseas graphic novels like Sojourn, Wolfsmund and Berserk is because of the utter drought of fantasy movies.

Well, the reason for that is because they're so hard to produce... at least ones that are as well-made as LotR.

Fantasy films were indeed everywhere, but then ol' Petes pretty much showed everyone up imho (at least when it came to presentation).

Which is why you see it almost everywhere in games; the creators are given more narrative leeway, so that even the most mundane of side-quests makes you feel important... somehow.

I'm not saying, "don't come back" I'm saying...

"Don't rush, try to find a way to make a film on an indie budget (so that it can reach a now-niche cinematic audience that don't play fantasy games to get their fix), and don't mess things up by going overboard. Stay focused."

with the vikings theme i actually wanted to include '& epic journey' and mentions LOTR and arnold's conan, but i was so eager for vikings i left this..

we are so scarce on this, and feel so bad about john carter, apart from promotional issue, the movie wasn't really satisfying too..

the problem i think with the current film making is that, they feel too arcadey, it's too fast paced, and neglecting some important cinematography like wide and far and long shot with the camera.. and something else that makes it just don't really leaves an impression..

i'm seriously wondering what went wrong with hobbit and how it felt so differnt from what LOTR delivers, i mean it's the same director..
