What's Your "No-No" in horror movies/games?

So I recently played a little bit of Dead Space 2, it's a pretty awesome game in my humble opinion. And there are plenty of memorable moments in that game, but that "Eye Ball Machine" really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Same with Outlast, the "finger" part of that game really makes me wanna quit, guess I'm just a sucker for these kind of scenes.

What about you? What makes you wanna quit a horror movie/game?

The tension. I don't mind some disgusting scene like the one you mentioned, but when the tension is too high, I really wanna quit. But I don't, cause that's the purpose of horror ;)

Well I did finish these games, I'm just saying these scenes make me ask myself: "Didn't I play video-games for entertainment?"

To be honest, I just don't like torture scenes from the very first place,:dead: so that's that.

You don't quit. Like Sunny said, if the horror gets under your skin and spooks or disturbs you, it's doing its job.

I am a VERY avid fan of the horror genre. Like I really have any "no-no" when it comes to these things.

Don't really have no-no in horror games. Though to be honest gore oriented horror don't impress me at all. I prefer psychological horror instead. Maybe that's why I'm not interested in games like Saw. It's not no-no for me, it's just not works as horror for me.

I'm the opposite of @ROCKMAN X, family friendly horror really gets old very quickly.
I get disappointed seeing movies like DraculaUntold or WorldWarZ get a PG-13 rating because actors or whomever wanna take their kids to see this.

Less gore, nudity, violence, harsh language, in something so easily setup to be a Rated-R or Rated-M is a No-No to me for those type of games or movies.

The shock of Rated-R or Rated-M gets my attention, the skating around it, finding ways to avoid or tone it down bores me.
It's like why pay $10.00 to see in theaters something i get on basic television.
Rockman is talking about the gory movies that have a lot of blood and gore just to do it. And all that nudity, sex, and ultra violence doesn't always make for a good movie. In fact, the ones that have mindless amounts of graphic gore just to have it are actually the exact opposite of mature.

And don't get me wrong, I like me some effed up movies. I enjoy flicks like Grotesque, 100 Days of Sodom, and Takashi Miike is like one of my favorite directors. I guarantee I have seen more f#cked up movies than anyone on this forum and I bet most of you wouldn't be able to even stomach half of them.

But I still like good movies. So like yea, I dig graphic flicks like 100 Days of Sodom, Visitor Q, Martyrs, and Caligula. But something like A Serbian Film? Yea, I'm not really phased by it, but it's just a bad movie trying to be as sick as possible. Allegory for the Serbian government my @ss. It's just a movie trying to one up every other effed up movie out there.

Horror is a broad spectrum of stuff. I could scare you without a single ounce of blood.

Dunno man. TBH, for movie to be scary, it doesn't really need to be extremely violent or extremely gory. Example: Sinster was great horror, despite gore was mostly offscreen. Films like Paranormal Activity, Insidious and Orphanage put extreme low accent on gore and much more on suspense. I don't think anything should be removed from movies for purpose, it's stupid. But put gore for gore purpose only is not way to make good movie. Human Centipede 2 is basically 2 hours gore fest, with extremely little sense in it.

On this that's more your tastes then mine.

I never watched Paranormal Activity, Insidious and Orphanage, because i never saw them as scary in my point of view & they're something i'd never waste money on seeing.

This is obviously purely based on the preferences of each individual of what's scary & what's a No-No, so it's going to vary.
Well that's true. If you prefer gore horror it's understandable. Fears are differ from one person to another. Though if you get in the mood give them watch. They don't have much violent scenes but they aren't bad movies ;)

I want HellRaiser not Scream.
Totally with you on this one :D So its understandable since i prefer supernatural horror than serial killer horror.
But actually i know what you mean. Im also sick of half-backed teeny horror as final destination. It's all developed and written after same principle, and doesn't impressive at all :( Like i said, I don't mind less gory horror movies. I do mind cheap scares for kids.

Just saying, Warm Bodies was a better movie than it had any right to be. I thought I was gonna hate it thinking it was gonna be something like Twilight with zombies for the tweeny bop crowd. Instead it actually was an amusing and well done rom-com.

Definitely a surprise.

A no-no for me would be seeing the same thing, again and again. Like the girl from the grudge. Suddenly, she's everywhere! Do it once, it's a novelty. Do it twice, it's a cliche.
The last horror I watched that I actually enjoyed was the recent Chucky release. And the only part that had me jump was the jump-scare right at the end, which was more of a laugh than a proper scare. This is what happens when you watch so much horror that you've basically seen it all. Like Amityville horrors or the entire Saw saga, etc etc.

i don't like a horror movie/game to JUST be jump scares. jump scares are cool and all, but if i'm not having bladder control issues and if i'm not tense, then its not doing its job right (for me of course)

Beer and big tits all around! XD
With me, horror's all about the mystery and suspense with gore. Like not revealing the scary killer until the end, only to be disappointed at it being not that scary looking at all. Jump scares are just taking over horror and I hate that **** because that's not horror. That's a cheap attempt at trying to be scary to me.

my no no is just that; keeping the killer or monster shrouded in mystery and when you finally reveal him, he's not that scary at all. What added to horror was not knowing what was killing the victims.

I'm a massive wimp so.... a lot of things. Dark areas, going underwater, creepy **** that stalks me around but doesn't feel quite like fighting me yet. But I love the **** out of some properly done world building; in Doom 3 the only reason I made it as far as I did was because I couldn't get enough of all the audio logs laying around, it was some seriously awesome stuff
