With itsuno gone do you think we could see another reboot

im talking character stakes not physical stakes.

often the cases feel too disconnected from Dante and reflect him or challenge him in a meaningful way.

that was a big problem with the anime and why it failed with me. It lacked that certain quality that longrunning stories need.

There's a reason why we tuned into watch Supernatural week to week.

its not unique to DMC and its something alot of Japanese franchises in gaming and manga lack to me.

DMC has half of the formula with Dante's shop and Nero's time in the order/running the orphanage with Kyrie in Before the Nightmare but neither is used well to make an impression.

i disagree with @Lain about DMC5 Nero. DMC5 didnt ruin Nero but it didnt make him more appealing as a character. There are improvements but they arent enough to change your mind. If you didnt like him in 4, its highly likely you wouldnt like him in 5.

4 gave him a weak first impression as Dante-lite but not as fun or interesting. Unless DMC6 gives him a radical shift in character like Raiden in MGS4 or Boruto in Two Blue Vortex, I rather look elsewhere for the next lead character. Currently he isnt enough of a draw without the sparda twins.

Never said 5 ruined nero though, i said it had the oppurtunity for him to leave behind the asbo like attitude from 4 and mature him, but did not do so.

Lol all good buddy, i was just speaking generally. I think nero was a major wasted chance for his character to grow and mature into someone more likeable.

Even post 5, he still has an attitude and acts like a teenager still. The reality is too, his childhood and upbringing were way better and less tragic than his uncle and father. So his attitude is not in anyway warranted or explainable. It is almost like he is a trope.

i think they were trying to do a joke like this in the beginning of 5 but it didnt land.

ironically 5 has a more coherent theme than but weaker jokes than 4.

i dont mind another reboot similar to what DC recently did with "Absolute DC" but those feel like a better version of DmC to me.

plus those would be better as new leads than redoing Bruce and the others.

so a new cast would be the cleaner option. Here's hoping they learn from Nero's missteps.

Absolute DC isn't a reboot. It's an alternate universe running concurrently with the main one, with different takes on the characters and events of the DC universe.

Which is probably a better approach than a full on reboot. Capcom's done this with the Mega Man games.

i know but the distinction didnt matter for my post. In practice, most reboots are treated like alternate universes with a few exceptions.

DC tried to do a soft reboot like the new 52 and thats close to what Lain initially suggested.

a soft reboot is a valid approach but id prefer another hard reboot just better.

If they did do a remake or reboot, i would love if they involved platinum for the action and combat.
A lot of talent has left Platinum.
Kamiya left. Also I dont want Kamiya to touch DMC with a 10 ft pole.

What else can you do with the series?
There is nothing to develop with Dante and Vergil.
Dantes story was supposed to be over with DMC1. Yet he is dragged into DMC5 as he ages into retirement. If you try to 'develop' Dante more he would turn into Dragonball Super Goku.
You can have a Sparda prequel where Sparda beats down Mundus.
You can have a Nero sequel where he gets new arms, and weapons with unique exceeds. But I dont think Nero can carry a game by himself.

But without Itsuno you wont have that combo simulator battle system.

Vergil said it best at the end of DMC5 : Everything ends Dante, even us.

I think the current fanbase just needs a final closure to the story for the twins and nero, so i think we need one more game. Then after that maybe start over, or make a new set of protagonists in the same universe. There are surely other cambions out there, besides dante and vergil.

You know, as I stare at my digital copy of the DMC HD Collection (that I bought for the third time) downloading, it occurs to me how much I loathe Dante’s design in DMC5 - for no reason they made him look like a dirty homeless man.

If we do ever get a sixth game, regardless of whether it’s a direct continuation or something else, I really hope they fix Dante’s design. The look of DMC2 with the personality of DMC1, that would be my ideal pastiche of Dante.

Precisely.

I think this works for Dante...
