I... guess you have a point about character piece tropes.
But a coward? Running away? I think you're sort of overthinking it.

doesn't matter if we "need" it or not...it's a game, a game is a luxury, not a necessity first of all....second of all, it's happening regardless, so why does this matter?

Arnold did.

Arnold didn't have a choice...the thing was hunting down the people who ran...his ONLY option was to kill it or die...that's not the same situation as most movies....besides he KNEW that it could be killed somehow...when you watch A Nightmare On Elm Street or Friday The 13th, do those people REALLY know how to kill the villains? Do they even have time to figure out a weakness? Because the people who just attack head on with no knowledge die in the first 10 minutes..it's not about fighting...it's about surviving

whats the difference between running from a city trying to crush you and running away from a giant centipede trying to kill you inside a similar "escape" sequence?
NADA
well.. and difficulty as well, because for one, the strategy is to run forward... and thats all. And the others required your eyes and a bit of familiarity of the controls.
And in "the fight" trailer, you can think whatever you want. I don't see anything pointing at Dante and the girl were trying to get out of the city. I thought they were just randomly walking down the street, she spotted a camera, and s**t went down. Dante's motive during this point of the trailer was to protect/distract or try and handle these demons before it gets anyone in danger.

and in most hack and slash games there will be a bit of running around

Maybe dante will get tired of running away in the game and decide to face the demons and the city itself.
Hell yeah!!!

Also, if I'd been playing and saw that thing with the face (at the end of the second trailer released) come bursting out of the ground and screaming to attack me...well, let's say I actually got chills just watching the trailer. No doubt in my mind I'd have been running in the opposite direction. If I was playing. And I'd probably have been screaming like a litle girl too. Before throwing the controller at someone more capable to fight that thing.

Soooooooooo............. Would someone kindly explain to me the point of this thread. I'm either still sobering up from last night, or I'm actually sober to see that this is just another DmC pointless bash.....

Actually, it's an elaborate trolling.

Might I also point out a flaw in logic? The "point" of this thread is to show how older media was better because characters didn't run away..yet all Sonic does is run...in the Crash Bandicoot games, you run away from crazy blue kangaroos towards the screen...In Halo, you run away from the core of the exploding ship...In the Matrix, the entire first half of the movie is about Neo running away from Smith...look at the variety here >.>

In Scarface he faces the problem head on, leading to an epic fire fight
in Predator he faces the problem head on , leading to an epic battle
In Aliens they make a damn bunker and set up turrets
In First Blood, He sends them on a wild goose chase for them picking them off one by one
in Godzilla, it was monsters beating the sh*t out of eachother
and Halo was made in 2001 (not the 90s and 80s) and he was running from an explosion, the one thing your supposed to run away from, or just walk away from looking like a badass

Well, I'm at a loss. Your argument seems to be "Any hero, who runs from something too powerful, is a coward, therefore the medium he is depicted in is crap".

Nothing here to see people, this thread is bananas.

in Nightmare Before Christmas, Jack Skellington is running away from his problems, which lands him into Christmas Town
in Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back, Luke Skywalker RUNS to Dagobah
in Godzilla, the people in Tokyo run away
in Forrest Gump, he runs away..literally
in Terminator 2, he runs away
in Jurassic Park, they run away from the dinosaurs

PEOPLE IN THE 90's RAN AWAY TOO

and for the cream of the crop, in Tremors, Kevin Bacon (arguably the best actor of all time) RUNS AWAY from the grabboids.

Yes, but that is because they have literally no idea how to kill the opponent, this is a hack and slash, the entire goal of the game is wailing on your opponents trying to rack up a combo before finally finishing them off, the idea of running away from something you don't need to is rather boring.
And you do not watch Godzilla for the people, you watch Godzilla to watch as Kaiju's beat the crap out of eachother while still maintaining a decent storyline.
Point is, they need more characters like Rambo, who had the balls to take down a helicopter WITH A ROCK!

Yeah, killing a city-wide demonic entity sounds pretty easy. This new Dante is a sissy.

In what hack and slash can you not kill the enemies, he has the weaponry, and we have seen trailers of him killing demons, so yes he is a sissy if he is running away from something he can kill.

In all do respect, it does sound easy when your a freaking half demon who is geared to the god damn teeth

Boring?
This "running away" part excites me most, just look at those visuals.
"New Dante" also has no idea how to kill his opponent.....he just can't blow up the whole city, can he?
