For the record superhero movies aren't new, they're pretty old, but yes, I know what you mean, this new wave of modern superhero films is and Avengers was the tipping point to prove that a superhero cinematic universe could work. It's hard to pinpoint where the modern superhero film started, if it was with Batman Begins or if it was with Iron Man but we were coming off of a rather bleak point in superheros in cinema where they were pretty much a joke so the promise of better films was new and exiting.Well of course not because back when super hero movies were new, it was exciting. I'm really really tired of super hero movies and shows, so I don't think it's unfair for me to pick and choose which ones I watch instead of feeling like I need to see every single one. I love Captain America, so I'm going to see Civil War just for that, but I'm not that interested in any other super hero movie. If BvS gets fantastic reviews, then I'll go see it, but if it's just okay or even "good" then I'm hesitant because I don't want to see so many super hero movies that I get burned out.
Anyway, I know that back around Avengers superhero movies were still turning and with this new wave lot was riding on it. Still, it strikes me a bit to see perceptions change and I'm wondering if this wouldn't be a thing if the movie had come out around the time before Avengers had been released or just before there were 47 marvel films flooding the market making superhero movies things people had started to loose patience with. I'm not wagging my finger at you demanding answers, and how dare, blah blah blah, I'm just curious to know if you would make a similar demand of the movie if it had come out around the time of Avengers. I don't care enough to be angry about it or anything.
Well, it's demanding because masterpieces are a rare thing, even in broad spectrum of all cinema, and there are no superhero masterpieces. The closest I've ever seen was Watchmen or the Dark Knight and to achieve that is a rare thing. Avengers is not a masterpiece, neither was Winter Soldier or Guardians or First Class. They were good movies and they entertained but once the shimmer of fandom fades they were just decent movies that have little to offer outside of confines of that genre, or just pleasing fans in general. They drown in the mix of all of the other ones in the market and they become just another one in the pile that could be substituted for another (the only ones that would care enough are the fans of specific movies). It's just a tall order, that's all, and looking around people are demanding a higher standard for this particular movie over any other in the horizon. So I'll pick and choose.I don't see how that is being demanding.
