Oh well gee golly gosh, I'm so sorry for offending you aka, I had no idea I was talking down to fans never being 100% pleased with any of the DMC games released.

Now you are making it looks like it was something minor as them not being 100% pleased whilst before you where talking in a way making it looks like they never are pleased with anything, making it look alot more than just never being 100% pleased.

I don't remember hearing any news or anything that said that DMC3 was directed by the fans. That was still created by Capcom, and what I mean by that is that the fans had no decision in anything other than "don't repeat DMC2".
Not necessarily, DMC2 Dante was stoic and boring compared to the cocky Dante in DMC1 (which fans adored) so they took that Dante and upped the anty in DMC3. Fans also hated the easy difficulty in DMC2 so they gave American fans a harder version of the game. Upping the difficulty could only be a fan service, because decreasing the difficulty would make it more accessible to a wider player base. They also made a special edition and gave people an opportunity to play Vergil because the fans loved him. Overall they molded the game around what people loved about the DMC1, and ditched the easy mode difficulty and mundane environments of DMC2.

This was when Capcom actually cared about the hardcore gamer. Now they don't and were probably going to get some half-baked DMC game which will lose the hardcore component that attracted me to the game. If you want a good story about DMC read the manga or something, we don't need that in the game. The first DMC had a pretty dumb story so who cares.

To clarify a point that is being discussed:

I didn't say that DMC4 was good - I said that the franchise is doing well. It sells millions of copies, that's all I meant.

Well, Ninja Gaiden fans are going to be feeling our pain too.

The new Ninja Gaiden 3 is almost going the way of DmC (sans being westernized), and fans are ****ed. I guess this is the new trend, alienate old fanbase for new ones. Why can't developers be more like Valve? There is a reason why Valve is loved by its fanbase and Capcom has been on everyone's **** list lately.

I don't think its that bad if he wears a British flag. It just a piece of clothing and it doesn't make him British
Never once made the claim that he was British.
There's nothing *wrong* with him wearing a british flag, and that's not necessarily a piece of punk style of clothing. Now that is just a plain stereotypical claim. That's all his new design is - a stereotype of a certain label. And it's quite irritating. I don't know if it gets to anyone, but it certainly gets to me. And it's so unlike any other style that has been worn by Dante before. It just does not fit.

*facepalm*
why does it need to be westernised? it doesn't need it.
I guess Team Ninja, like Capcom, wants their franchise to sell as much as God of War....by making it more like God of War.

Although this may seem like it is coming out of nowhere, I'm starting to hate Capcom now. They are rebooting a franchise that didn't need it. DMC4 sold good actually and they profited from it, so I don't know where this need to reboot it is coming from. DMC series isn't like Castlevania or Tomb Raider...series that needed a reboot. This whole move screams of making DMC a GoW clone (oh, the irony) so they can get that GoW money. Also, Capcom isn't localizing the new Miles Edgeworth game and they think all Western gamers are either Oblivion-loving twats or FPS-loving idiots with many of their new IPs.

I completely agree.

As much as I hated games like Castlevania being rebooted (since I'm a HUGE fan) I have to admit that it really did need it as far as fan support and money is concerned.

But a series like DMC which was not anywhere near going downhill did not need a reboot considering financially wise it was doing just fine as well as Fan support wise.

True DMC4 did not live up to the hype but it still sold alot of copies and it did not lose alot of DMC fans so why is Capcom hopping on the freaken reboot bandwagen like everyone else? Its pretty ridiculous how Capcom has been treating there franchises as of late. First Resident Evil had to be "westernized" which gave us the action movie of a game Resident Evil 5 which did not feel like Resident Evil at all and now they are considering completely rebooting Resident Evil as well.

Capcom IMO is only going to stand to lose fans if they keep this up. Don't get me wrong a reboot is fine as long as certain "requirements" regarding the current franchises situation is taken into consideration beforehand such as whether or not they are losing ALOT of fans or ALOT of money which did not apply to Devil May Cry nor does it apply to Resident Evil.

So they're not changing the design? LAME i probably wont even play the demo, if it plays like Devil may cry but doesnt look like it, Ill play Bayonetta or God Of War. Dante's meant to be a smug, cock, slick asshole, thats the way we like him.
And for people saying "Least they're not changing it for fans" thats what devolopers do. For you COD Fans, MW2 Didnt change anything people complained and they didnt support their product, BO came out and they supported it. They're supposed to listen to the community and change what the fans dont like. Seriously this is looking like self insert fanfiction for the head.
Final thing id add- If they just changed the design back i can imagine how many people would actually prefer it. I mean you dont see Emo Mario do you? cutting himself because he went to the wrong castle, characters like Sonic and Dante have stood the test of time and are still well known, plus remember when they changed Dante in DMC4 and named him "Nero" and not many people approved? this is like Metal Gear Solid 2 all over again =/

Nero grew on people, though. I know plenty of people on here who didn't like him at first and grew to like him, myself included.

I'm sure this new DmC will do the same thing for me.

I cleared DMC4 then traded it in right away. I never liked Nero, but I gave him a go. He was reasonable as a character, but what sucked was 1 style, 1 gun and 1 sword, when compared to DMC3's 6 styles, 5 guns and 5 swords. Replay value straight in the toilet for DMC4.

What they could've done is think him out a little more, or switch his amount of missions with Dante's considering Dante was obviously more thought out.

Yeah. He would have been cool as a bonus character like Vergil in DMC3. Or even have Nero as "easy" mode, for players who don't want the complexity of Dante. But they even shot themselves in the balls with Dante in DMC4. Removed weapons and guns from 3, didn't add very much either :(

Well they do that in every game to be fair but I remember before 4 was released they were often asked about the reason for introducing Nero and the reason actually was for newcomers who didn't want to be thrown into the deep end with Dante's complexity. So they started with Nero to ease them into the game then throw Dante into the mix for the fans.

They have an easy mode in every game, but what I mean is, have the entire game with Nero as the easy mode, and then have the entire game with Dante for the harder difficulties. By having Nero at the start of the game, not only do you force superior players to use a limited move set, but you also confuse the inferior players once they get to Dante all of a sudden, and you split the game in half rather than having the full game accessible to both Nero and Dante players.

to have Nero or Dante playable for the entire game automaticly they would have to write two entirely different stories or not give Dante a story at all. (it would have been a good idea to let you play as each charicter in the other charicters part of the story but that is a compleatly different thing )

By the looks of some the early screens and scenes from the intro that could have been what the original plan was. You see Dante running away from Echidna and stuff.

That would have been good too. The main problem is splitting the game up the way they did
