What did you like in DmC

788Masri

I'm just some guy who really like Devil May Cry
There are a lot of threads for picking out the flaws in DmC. fair enough, but i feel it deserves more love than its receiving at point. so i made this thread. just put down what you liked in the game from design to characters etc :D

heres some of mine:

Dante: started off a little annoying but redeemed himself by the half way point. i am now heavily invested in his development as a character

Vergil: had character development for once.

Bob Barbass: God i loved hating him

Bob Barbass fight: god damn NT deserve some kinda reward for that fight alone

Vergil/Dante fight: tense as hell, Vergil freaked me out. loved it. nearly as good as DMC3 ( i say as good as the 2nd DMC3 fight)

Music: just plain brilliant

The facial animations and the way they were able to capture the subtleties of each actor.

NT's approach to the Dante and Vergil rivalry.

The character development of both Dante and Vergil. People have complained about Vergil's seemingly random motives at the end, but if you pay attention closely, it is heavily foreshadowed throughout the game without being blatantly stated.

The fluidity of certain things like the combat and controls. Things like the jump, which feels not as flighty as Bayonetta, but not as stiff as the past DmC's. The the dodge canceling is also between those games. Most stuff is easy to dodge cancel out of, but there's still a penalty to doing a move like Trinity Smash without thinking first.

The story, while it has it's flaws, felt fun to play through. As an aside, while I wouldn't have minded seeing some kickass cutscenes, looking back at DMC3 and 4, most of them they were just for the sake of cool/showing off instead of having real purpose to them, which makes feel cheesy for me after the first watch.

The stance system is easier to manage than the multi-styles system of 4. People able to flip the d-pad while hitting those combos, I salute your skill, or mutant third thumb.

The level creation is great with how it blends with the story instead of doing abstract item collecting stuff. It's also diverse without breaking it's own context; DMC4 threw me off with the forest traversal, while DMC3 I felt it was mostly drab dark stoney areas, which could get a little boring over time.

It ended.

It idiot-proofed the gameplay moreso than Easy Automatic mode did ten years ago, and i didn't think that was possible.

I can watch Etnad get a chainsaw in his junk whenever I want.

It helped me realise that the entire videogame journalism industry is frighteningly incompetent.

Fan fiction doesn't seem so bad any more.

So good to know that undue vitriol and trolling is not yet a lost art...because apparently respecting different tastes and opinions is...

Do I need to copy paste a reminder that you still have the right to choose your own opinion and by reading mine I'm not mind controlling you into sharing them at the end of every post I make? Because I'll do that darling.

This coming from someone who been here for a grand total of...fourteen days, I don't think I need to take advice from you on posting and forum etiquette. Have fun in your miserable hate filled little world though, I'm certain the rest of us who have lives beyond spewing rancid bile of hate for a simple video game will go on with our lives and find our own fulfillment as we see fit.

I'm just taking pot-shot at the Leviathan at the moment, but I do want to do a full roasting article on DmC in the near future to go in the portfolio along with the one for RE6.

Because you see friend, vitriol and critique are wonderful things. People like to see, read and hear about it, and if you can do it well people are made happy by it. I can't, but I'm learning.

Have fun with DmC, I'm sure it'll gratify you in some way.

It did, actually. I got to see an attempt at trying something different that Capcom was so reluctant to do themselves because their ENTIRE TEAM who use to handle the DMC series has for the most part left, since upper management was willing to shove half-ass and partially finished products out the door and call them good while going behind dev teams' backs, and so when they went to NT, they gave the specific conditions upon which this game was made, including making the game more story driven, getting away from the usual look of Dante, and then more accessibility of the combat engine. So...yeah, direct more of your bile and hate toward the architects of this product if you have that much of an issue and less so toward the hired worker who just followed their directives.

THAT said...I will attend the topic at hand. What did I like. Seeing more focus on the story was nice, as well as a consistency in developing the growth of the characters, and despite what some people say, certain actions did NOT just come out of left field, they were there in actions and attitudes, just done very subtlety so you had to pay attention. Little easter eggs and references, and homages to the original series were nice and sometimes amusingly tongue in cheek. And contrary to what people try to say, the wig scene was meant as Ironic foreshadow and a little well meaning rib at the original look of Dante, NOT a "big middle finger" to the fans of the classic games.

Not fond of the ending, since it feels so forced...as in Capcom FORCED Ninja theory to have the Dante vs Vergil fight in this game for the sake of having the fight. But, meh, hopefully the expansion will rectify that and the possible sequel could hopefully expand on it.

do i need to copy and paste the TITLE OF THE THREAD,
"There are a lot of threads for picking out the flaws in DmC. fair enough, but i feel it deserves more love than its receiving at point. so i made this thread. just put down what you liked in the game "
in other words
DON'T BITCH ABOUT WHAT YOU DON'T LIKE ABOUT THE GAME in this thread which is made for the sole purpose of positive reception
"It helped me realise that the entire videogame journalism industry is frighteningly incompetent"
first of all who the hell are you to say that the entirety of the video game journalism industry is retarded, unlike you they objectively review games because they are professional enough, (and are actually contributing to society, its called a job asshole) to see a great game when they see one and rate it on its on merits, you aren't a journalist, you aren't contributing to society, you're basically a half-assed cyber bully hiding behind a computer screen pretending to be some "intellectual" when the rest of us see through you're bullshit opinion about a video game, for you to basically say
"gaming journalism doesn't agree with me so they're opinions are much less credible then my completely subjective opinion" (HERE'S A HINT, SUBJECTIVE=UN-CREDIBLE IN EVERY SINGLE SENSE OF THE WORD)
is completely asinine and frankly, pretentious, get the hell over yourself and stop talking down to people, and stop trying to squash out the tons of positive reception because here's a thought, THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO AGREE WITH YOU ARE THE LOUD MINORITY
HOW'S THAT FOR A ROAST?!!!

I love it all, damn it!

No game is perfect, but it's certainly the first Devil May Cry game to garner such approval from the mainstream, and not by selling out, either. For the goals they meant to achieve, it's incredibly impressive, and there's nothing about it I found unenjoyable. Awesome combat, immersive story that bleeds into the gameplay, beautiful presentation, and developed characters with plenty of room to grow.

If this were anything other than a reboot, people would be gushing endlessly. For instance, I don't see a lot of posts on DMC 3's subforum talking about every little possible shortcoming. There are things DmC does incredibly well that the previous games hardly touch on, and I don't think you can really debate that. After experiencing DmC, I'm pretty convinced this is what Devil May Cry was always meant to be.

Your a Hero dude. I got no problem with people talking about the bad parts of this game but this guy seems to exist for the sole reason of bullying people on these forums who like this game which is just uncalled for, especially on a thread that is made just for giving positive comments on this game.

But I digress. The best feature of this game for me and I have a lot of options for this but the one that sticks out the most for me is the art. This game has the best art direction I have seen in the series, that is to say that it all fits together and is designed with it's own world in mind and never breaks it's own fiction. I love the use of color and the step away from the dark Gothic castles of the previous games

It's easier to focus on the things I didn't like:

- A weird complaint, but I found the font in the game extremely ugly. Not to mention the subtitles were terribly done. Sometimes they got entire words wrong. For instance, in a cutscene, Kat could have said "yeah" but in the subtitles it would say "Yes". Small errors like that really bug me. The timing of the subtitles could have been better. Maybe only show part of a text, and then show the next bit as the voice actor delivers the line. There's a lot of long pauses, and if you read the subtitles, you already knew exactly what they were going to say. Which kind of killed the "suspense."

- The design of the Stygians. Good lord on a stick these creatures are ugly as sin to look at, and not in a good way.

- The Hunter "boss" battle felt very disappointing. Quite possibly the most underwhelming boss in DMC history. (Apart from that, all other bosses were sensational.)

- SSS combo being insanely easy to accomplish. They really made you work for it in DMC4, but this time around, they practically throw them at you once you get Trillion Stabs and Overdrive.

- Lack of information on Sparda. We know that he was imprisoned forever by Mundus. Assuming that ends now that Mundus has been killed, will we see Vergil confront him? Will anything come from it? I seriously doubt it, but that would be nice to see.

I liked pretty much everything else. Solid 9.5/10 game for me.
