Having a discussion on another forum about the suggested similarity of slasher films to porn. I have to agree, the genre is dominated with helpless women victims and if there are male victims, their deaths are not lingered over, but the females ones are drawn out, more intimate - the male deaths are violent but quicker by comparison. My friend suggests this is because the slasher genre has much in common with porn and the 'male gaze', that the audience is assumed to be male and wants to see the (female) victims undone by a male killer in a subversive metaphor for rape.
