It's not all that different from how some police protect the law, but do so with such a blind ideal of justice that they forget the human element that's inexorably part of the whole process.
Like, "You killed this man. That's bad, go to jail." But...why? What was the reason behind it? Self-defense?
Essentially, Angels would judge the whole of humanity without a trial. They want to uphold the idea of humanity so badly that they overlook the individual cases that make things look so chaotic in their eyes.
Without humanity, there can be no human element, after all. It would then come down to Dante and the Angels' views differing on the importance of that human element.
