Vergil should have less backlash

I say this because unlike dante we see it coming and when mundus was shown nobody cared.though we all know vergil has a giant fanbase do you guys think the reception will be harsh? personally i think it depends on how he is portrayed.

fair point. i think its more to do with how they portray him. i mean if they keep him the cool level headed guy he was in 3 then im pretty sure the majority of the fanbase will be ok. but if they change his personality a lot. like making him into something unrecognisable then god help us all.........

although if he is something similair e.g. hes sensible and nice rather than logical and distant then i wouldnt mind as it could leave a lot of room for development of the character. though still god help us all......

But in all honesty, no, I don't think Vergil will get half of the hate that Dante did. Just because Vergil only appeared in 2 of 4 games and was mentioned in 2 of 4.

Dante has appeared as the main protagonist in all 4 (Yes I consider him and Nero to share DMC4 50/50, Dante was a huge troll in that one)

Hmm...sweet perfection.

Vergil will have less backlash as now people are actually expecting a change in him so everyone is actually prepared for whatever NT throws at us.

To be fair, we don't really know what Vergil is actually like. DMC 3 Vergil was a major retcon of his DMC 1 version, where he was supposed to be kidnapped for 20 years. For all we know, he could've been just as cocky as Dante was. So any backlash towards character change would be rather unwarranted.

Plus we've only seen him as a character once so is there much to change or contradict?

I think there would be a major backlash. It doesn't matter if you see it coming or not. It's going to hit hard either way. So I say it depends on his portrayal, how they introduce him,...pretty much the overall presentation of him. But some people are still going to be mad.
Personally, I don't care. I was never attached to Vergil. Playing DMC 1 and 3 (thanks to the HD Collection) made me like him a little more. But I still didn't really care about him.

Well, there's the fact that he's a very honorable guy. If he's a backslider in DmC, that'll basically be a change towards the core of his character which is bad if NT wants to keep the "spirit" of his character. That, and his power- lust, which I think is okay to change since that made him a rather confusing character. Then there's his coldness, which is also something that I feel is okay to change since that also made him rather confusing.

I think that, if they kept his calculatory attitude and honorable nature like they did with Dante's cockiness and over- the- top style, they wouldn't have as much backlash as Dante initially got.

(By the way, as a side question, does anyone know why Itsuno decided to give Dante an over- the- top style of fighting? DMC 1 Dante's fighting style was pretty straightforward.)

I wouldn't say it's over the top, just unrefined with a sword.

well for me i loved playing as vergil even more than dante....cuz he is very skillful and very powerful and i liked his coldness to not hesitate to strike....but in DmC i would like him to be the gd brother and aid dante in his quest whatever that will be :) and + dante is very hotheaded and doesnt thing of what to do he just does it....but with vergil hes calm and he thinks before he strikes and every blow must count ^_^

I think we know that he has white hair at the beginning of the game, showing he is more powerful than Dante, which I think older DMC fans will like considering that Vergil was more powerful than Dante in DMC3. It will be interesting to see their relationship. Maybe Vergil never actually takes off his mask, so Dante doesn't know that the leader of the Order is really his brother.

It be cool to see them work together, a stark contrast to the other games where they were neck and neck at each other. I can't wait to see.

I think he'll be met with negativity but not as much. If Vergil is indeed the leader of the order and if he even is Dante's brother in this game, then he'll atleast have his white hair, as we've seen from the E3 2012 trailer that the Order's leader has white hair when he turned his head. However some of his fans (Some fangirls) will complain that he's not wearing blue, but that's probably not gonna be as bad. Plus some of the Dante fans will complain that "Why does Vergil have white hair, but Dante doesn't?!"

i dont care what hes hair looks like or hes color or hes coat....let his attitude be as it is and let him be the gd brother and ill be tip top condition and will love every min of it more:D

Yeah, pretty much what everyone is saying. Most of the backlash came with Dante, and the reboot as a whole, when it was announced. There will be people complaining about Vergil's looks, yes, but they will all be either fangirls or super ****ed off fans who still have not given it a rest or ignored the game after 2 years of b*tching.

Except alot of people are past the hair and now the main problem with this new Dante is how he spews out curse words for no reason.
