They are from the same family of bird (Corvidae), but they are definately not the same bird.
It's like saying a lion and a tiger is the same.

A raven is within the genus "corvus," which the crow makes up too, though. They're sorta interchangeable, really.

That suddenly makes me realize while the main character of Dishonored may have been named Corvo... >.>
 
I just Wiki'ed it as I do when in doubt of something, and you're right actually. A raven is apparently a crow. I just thought they were two birds of the same family, but apparently crows are a large range within that family, raven being part of that range.

So sorry, my mistake. ^^
In my defense though, it has always been specifically the raven that has had that mythological link to death and not just crows overall. Odin had his two ravens in Norse Mythology, Hugin and Munin, who went to the battlefield and looked out for worthy warriors to join them in Valhalla. They were also messengers, telling omens to people who were soon to meet their death.
