So in a attempt to talk about something else, i thought of this today and decide to give it a shot.
So I'm asking if any of you posters who thinks that either DINO from DmC or Nero from DMC4 is emo, can give me a compelling argument or at least a thought out response on to why you think he is emo.
Note: if you can't give me a good reason to why, than just say so
Note: no ranting or trolling please. most of us are adults here so lets act like it. My apologies if you aren't but at least you can try.
Note: dont use a photoshopped picture of the guy from twilight on top of the new dante's body. those are obviuosly fake and cant be taken seriously.

It's the thin body/hair style & colour/blood/pallid skin, etc. and possibly even his choice of clothes. I don't know because I don't take much notice of these fashions and trends, but the look he instantly gives out even I noticed, and I can see why he is being labelled 'emo'.

Although I am not prone to snap judgement and I would say even if he conjures the emo image from his appearance, he may or may NOT be emo in the actual game. In fact I doubt he will be emo at all. People were labelling Nero emo and I think they're mistaking 'emo' for something else in his case, since he doesn't sit there feeling sorry for himself at all, he gets up and at 'em to kick some demon ass without much persuasion. I'd call him a passionate individual - not an emo individual.

This new Dante is going to be intense, but I seriously doubt he will be "emo" as in the popular description.

Quite a while ago I remember someone pointing out the same thing about Leon from Resident Evil 4.
leon-s-kennedy-leon-kennedy-10478761-1280-1024.jpg

He doesn't really carry an emo tag around with him because he was best remembered for for being supercool in Resident Evil 4 so what his hair looks like is pretty moot.
I think people who complain about everything else are just using that stuff to weigh out their arguement a bit more. If everything else stuck but they made his hair white a lot of people would stop complaining.

Unlike Tameem I wasn't drawn to DMC because of Dante's style and fashion, stick specks and an afro wig (<unlockable costume??) on him for all I care as long as the gameplay and story are decent, worst case scenario he is mega emo he will be less of a d*ck which is exactly what I wanted anyway.
It's just an alteration of his appearance sure he looks a little less unique and dashing now but if thats such a big deal to you as a fan then you are into the series for the wrong reasons. I thought Solid Snake looked rediculous with a stache but I let go and moved on because it's what he is on the inside that I became a fan of not his choice of grooming decisions.

Emo is just being used because it is misused as something people hate for whatever reason. Kinda like that certain word for happy that starts with a g. People don't know what the freak emo is half the time, and just throw it around as what it isn't. Dante looks more 90's indie or punk than anything else in this game.

Unfortunately, 'emo' is how people falsely describe a lot of people, characters, etc these days, and it's unfortunate. From DmC it's most the haircut, general attitude (cliche teenage angst), pale skin, and so on. I've never heard of Nero being called emo, though. Usually what I get from fans about him is that he's a 'weakling' or a 'wimp' sometimes even 'wannabe'. All which are also false. >_> I think sometimes people throw around words a lot of the time, and just generally act careless when they're frustrated, infuriated, or plain dislike something to a high degree. It's like calling a girl you hate a slut bag. She may not be a slut bag, but because you hate her you're going to insult her anyway.

BAD ANALOGY THING BUT WHATEVER

he's not emo, i really don't see where everyone's getting that from. not in fashion or persona.
he's not self-loathing, he's a ****ed off rebellious teen - punk through and through. that england patch was put on to pay homage and allude to that exactly.

OBSERVE:
Sid Vicous, a punk if there ever was one. looks STAGGERINGLY like he was designed after the late sid, doesn't it?

I think it looks like they tried too hard to make him look 'punk'. =/ It almost ends up looking fake in a way, so maybe that's where people get the 'emo' idea from.

DmC Dante was the first time the thought of "emo" came into my head concerning Dante's new look. As for Nero and Dante's old look they've the typical Anime style look. At least to me. The skinny body, longish hair, insane inhuman abilities all scream typical Anime look.

He's not emo. It's the same thing that happens with me at school. People call me emo because of the way I dress, even though my style is clearly indie. People, I'm assuming, are just calling him emo because it's an insult that comes to their mind when they see him (along with faggot, but I digress). One of my best friends is actually emo (not cut herself [I hope!] type, but dresses like that and listens to the emo genre of music) and her style is nothing like Dante's. It's like Reanbell said, "It's like calling a girl you hate a slut bag. She may not be a slut bag, but because you hate her you're going to insult her anyway."

"Faggot" is one of those words I just can't stand. Overused, overblown, yadda yadda. Can't people think of more imaginitive words to call him? If they're trying to say he 'looks' gay, he doesn't particularly... and if it's just something to say about him since they dislike the design, it's starting to sound like a word used almost exclusively by people operating on one brain cell or less to describe everything they don't like. If I hear anyone using it near me I have to fight the urge to smack them hard.

Same with slut bag. People need to think of more interesting ways to insult women if they must, other than insulting their chastity. Just saying, since the days of women having to be virginal to be respected are long since over here.

I guess then that the majority of people calling Dante emo not only don't know what 'emo' is, but were not tickled by the new Dante.

^I always picture those delightful meatballs, I think their made of liver and herbs :)
Also i think with the term "slut bag" a lot of girls may even see it as a compliment nowadays :\

All visual things aside, my main gripe with the new game is that i always quite liked Dante, he seemed like a cool, fun bloke that i would love to hang around with(plus i think he's funny :)) but this kid just looks like a D**k now i know you could say thats all to do with his past and the way hes been treated guess the game will explain that, but i dont know, after being abused and going through this rebellious phase i cant imagine any event that would give Dante such a confidence boost that it would leave him like his DMC3 counterpart, especially in the span of 1 game (unless it lasts yeas?) maybe he has his fist strawberry sundae in this and he's like BOOM "Lets rock baby!"
That for me is why people may be lableing him an "emo"

visually, maybe the hair but i think it just looks mainly scruffy and not quite the right stlye for an emo cut, it could do with having a longer fringe.

and as far as Nero being an emo, that always made me laugh, in my experience people only give Nero that label cause he cried about Kyrie(or they just dont like him) but i think thats understandable, after all he loved her and it seemed like whatever he done he couldnt save her, that to me says passionate, which is stereotypically something that an emo isn't.

Emo is not fashion or hairstyle, it is a way of life...
We can't really judge that Dante is emo because of his side bang or skinny look.
This also stands for punk too.
You're not punk if you just dress like one, you must stand your beliefs to be considered punk or emo...

"Faggot" is one of those words I just can't stand. Overused, overblown, yadda yadda. Can't people think of more imaginitive words to call him?

I agree, I mean I'm really open about sexual orientations and stuff, and this word along with 'gay' is thrown around way too much and is really just insensitive and distasteful. Many insults thrown at other people, characters, etc... are used in such a manner though, and it's pretty unfortunate. People will say anything to vent their rage over something, and don't think about the consequences, and how they're only hurting their own image by saying such things.

"slut bag" a lot of girls may even see it as a compliment nowadays :\

Yeah, that really is the sad truth. Sex has been treated so loosely lately, there are young girls getting pregnant and being proud of how many guys they've slept with... it's just humanity today that gives me really little faith for the world. It's more than a little depressing. <=/

Yeah, Emo is a type of subculture that really cannot be pinned on a person's emotions. It's a lot more about music than anything, which has nothing to do with how the new Dante may act. There was also this different sort of 'scene' style that came out that people started calling 'new emo' and all this other stuff that's just ... irritating, lol. Basically, someone started an awful trend and it grew to making fun of people with depression which is NOT a good thing to be doing and certainly not a good term to be placing on anyone, even if they are just a video game character. People really need to think about what they're saying more often. ._. I understand it's the internet, but please have some decency. I may not like the new Dante or have many positive views about the trailer of this game *so far*, but I wouldn't call this look emo. I don't think I can give it any label while looking at it except fail. Of course, this is my pre judgement. =P

Okay I typed way too much xD

I think when people call him a fag it comes from how he is clearly not invincible in this one, that compared to DMC4 Dante he is going to be nowhere near as untouchable.

I CAN'T WAIT :D

But I think fag has devoloped a wider spectrum than simply gay people, it is now thrown around so much it is used to generalise a lot of random negative personality traits. Such as owning a harley.

As far as I know, emo is the label kids put on other children who suffer from depression and the likes. They have no goals, they turn to self-harm just to feel something, etc.

I don't know exactly when 'emo' became a lifestyle, because it's not much of a lifestyle IMHO. But then as others said, the word has been spread thin everywhere so if you wear your hair a certain way, you're emo; if you wear a certain style of clothing, you're emo; if you write sad and angry poetry, you're emo. A lot of the time 'emo' gets mixed up with Goth and punk, anything that doesn't fall in line with the usual streamline society. It's lost its original meaning. Now it's used to refer to something that is different, and it's a way of saying that different is not good. It's used to degrade something and to discriminate against it. That's my guess on why DmC Dante has so hastily been dubbed an 'emo'. Aside from the facts that he certainly doesn't look depressed OR have an 'emo' hairstyle, he IS different to what everyone expected.

Here where I live, emo isn't used all that much. The kids in their late teens tend to refer to everything and anything that is funny/weird/stupid as gay. The first time I picked up on this lingo of theirs I was O_O I'd be careful if I were them with flinging that word around, just now they cross paths with a dude on PMS who gives them a bitchslap for using the gay word.

And...I have no cooking clue why Nero was called an emo. It might have been because of his hairstyle.
