Taking Lordofdarkness' advice (After the Raiden vs Wolverine thread, started to turn into chatter about Wolvie's character and his origin)

Just a thread talking about the ol'canucklehead. From comics, to cartoons, movies, games ect.

So if you've been living under a rock since 1974, here's James 'Logan' Howlett aka Wolverine
wolverine-comics.jpg
So Wolverine was created by Len Wein, who was simply instructed to make a character, named Wolverine, who was short (Wolverine's official height is listed as 5'3.......though these days he seems to usually be drawn as 5'9 - 6'0) Canadian (as Marvel had a large fanbase in Canada, and decided to create a Canadian superhero, to which I say "Thank you, Marvel") with a fierce temper

Wolvie officially deputed in 1974 where he was introduced as a superhuman agent of the Canadian government, dispatched to fight the Incredible Hulk

After that, the character didn't appear again until Giant Sized X-Men in 1975, when several new members were added to the X-Men to make the team more diverse (The in-story reason was the original team was captured, and they needed new X-men to save them). Colossus (Russian), Nightcrawler (German), Storm (African) and Wolverine himself (Canadian) being the 4 who have remained members in most adaptations since

(Notice, the different mask, this is because the cover artist drew Wolverine's mask wrong, however Dave Cockrum liked the mask, as it reminded him of Batman, and so it became Wolverine's new look)

As a mutant, Wolverine's powers include a regenerative healing factor (which also makes him immune to earthly diseases and toxins, and enhances his physical capabilities, giving him some measure of enhanced strength, speed, agility, reflexes, and stamina, and slowing down his aging process) he also possesses animal keen senses, of sight, smell, and hearing. His trademark ability ofcourse are a set of foot long retractable bone claws, 3 in each arm, that extended from the back of his hands, sharp and dense enough to cut wood, stone, and even some metals
As part of a procedure to make Wolverine the ultimate weapon, his entire skeleton was molecularly bonded to an artificial metal called Adamantium, making his bones virtually unbreakable, further enhancing his strength to the point of being able to lift up to 2 tons, and sharpening his claws to being able to cut virtually any solid surface, depending on the amount of force he exerts (He's been able to cut the Incredible Hulk, the God of Thunder Thor, and most impressively, the Mad Titan Thanos....Yes he could probably cut Superman)
EDIT:
Oh and in addition to his powers. Wolverine is also a master strategist (with over a century in training as a soldier, samurai, assassin, a spy, in black ops, and his years as a superhero)
An expert tracker, an expert swordsmen and marksmen. And a master martial artist (One of the best in the Marvel Universe, alongside Captain America, and Taskmaster)

that first pic, i was hoping a jason statham kind of guy for the movie, and then came jackman, i was kinda disappointed backthen

and, questions :

1. so adamantium was originally artificial instead of meteorites?

2. what's your favorite design of wolverine? i've seen this pic from wizard magazine where he looked so realistic and humane, i kinda like that one, ofc that is after x men movies, so i could relate to the realism more..

3. i like gambit, yea i know, typical cool looking guy.. do you wolverine fans hates gambit fans? lol

I love Jackman personally, only thing is, the movies' PG-13 rating wont let him be violent enough.
1) Adamantium was artificially made from a mixture of various metals. In the comics, Captain America's shield is Proto-Adamantium. Which is Adamantium with Vibranium added
2) I like his X-Force costume, the bright yellow and blue don't really fit such a dark character.
But I like the ultimate universe and the films' approach using dark uniforms
latest
3) I love Gambit, I like Wolverine more, but I love Gambit

holy ****, that's one cool costume. that's a more fitting costume for him, too bad his yellow is already the iconic thing for him. the days of future past costume is really good imo, love the armor look, and it's black..

and yeah, i like the dark colored approach to x-men movies, i'm one of those who think a live-action adaptation of comical/animation stuffs should be desaturated, that or give them a more good looking fabric to appear on screen, it's a different medium, so the approach should be different as well..

@LordOfDarkness and @absolitude
My only problem with it is....He looks even more like Batman. Which normally aint an issue
But then ya got videos like this

still looks good, but that sneer, less of that will be good, it reminds me of krueger instead, must be on the actor..

i wonder, will that costume and mask work for a live-action after all these years without em?

@absolitude: I never really understood why they never attempted to make it work. I mean, to me, wouldn't you question a Batman or Spiderman movie if instead of wearing their costumes they just threw on a t-shirt and some jeans?

Well does Wolverine really need a mask? He has no secret identity really

That wasn't what I meant. They're all comic book characters. Don't most of those have costumes?

I see where you're coming from. But when it came to the X-Men movies. I thought that'd be the better time to give him a costume. Even if it was just the outfit and not the mask, since the mask would be for covering up a person's identity.

yeah, backthen when the first x-men movie came out i was waiting when he'll wear the full costume and mask, and after a long while, i went wtf, lol..

it's was pretty hard for me to accept he went without the full costume since all i only know was the iconic wolverine..

lolololoolololl, this was real..

and i love to really see wolverine going full costume in a movie, maybe it won't be necessary being having not having secret identity, but just for good ol nostalgia sake.. maybe on a whole new wolverine project, who knows..

Potentially. Maybe something like his ultimate costume

@LordOfDarkness Sorry for the double post, but The Wolverine director had this to say
"Finding the rationale for a uniform when the character disdains self promotion, why he would put on some outfit that promotes himself as some kind of hero? It's like Dirty Harry didn't walk around with special outfit. There's a difficult line to walk. He's not a showoff, he's the last one to put on a team jersey. The flesh and blood character is very loyal to that iconoclastic rebel who doesn't seem to be the first to don spandex. It isn't something I've talked about much. Some fans may be frustrated, but we're trying to be true to his character. Who knows whether that will change, I cannot verify and will not deny."

The makers of that Batman vs Wolverine video also have a yellow outfit that's been used in other vids

Another thing:
"As far as Hulk breaking Wolverine in half... (quick biology and metallurgy lesson here) Despite propaganda saying otherwise, Wolverine's skeleton is not completely coated with adamantium, if it were he couldn't move. Adamantium porously coats each bone individually (and it would have to be porous because blood and oxygen is required to get inside the bone to the marrow for a person to live). Also there is a malleable disc between each bone (especially in vertebrae in the spine) which allows freedom of movement along with joints and ligaments(which wouldn't be coated in adamantium if Wolverine hopes to do things like walk, stand, move in the slightest...).
That only happened in the Ultmate Marvel universe.
In the 616 universe (the main continuity) Hulk tried the same thing and it didn't work. DB mentioned apparently the weak points in Wolverine's skeleton are linked together with some kinda adamantium chain links

Yea i know it was ultimate, i was trying to save space when i posted the info lol.

But anyway yea the weak spots in Wolverine's skeleton is probably a type of Adamantium alloy & not True Adamantium like what's covering his skeleton.

Also do you know about the issue where cyclops blasted off one of Wolverine's hands ????
I remember seeing it i just don't remember the full details.
