It never was...it was said over a year ago that it wasn't canon to the classic series. Even without that, with all those changes made in the 2010 announcement trailer, you'd have to be really foolish or stubborn to think they had something to do with the classic canon :/

Isn't it a reboot so its technically rebooting the franchise? So that would basically mean that it would have to be one or the other for canon its not like Zelda.

Alex has clarified that DMC and DmC both exist in seperate spheres. Get what it means?

Wasnt it going to be a prequel at one point in like 2010 or 2011?

thats too confusing for me ( i can understand what is being said but still) like i said its not like zelda and the only other universe in the DMC timeline i can think of is my theory that DMC2 and 4 take place in different universes :L

At first, NT thought they were doing a prequel.
And I think this game was going to be sold as another origin story, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, now, DmC exists only in DmC's canon.

Im just glad its not I don't like DmC but if it was another origin story all the plot holes would make my head explode

1. DMC2 and DMC4 exist in the same continuity. Unless Capcom says otherwise, DMC4 Dante will eventually become the Cloud-wannabe Dante of DMC2.

2. DmC's existence does not overwrite DMC's existence. They are both parallel universes. That is about as simple as it gets.

I like to think that 2 and 4 are different out comes of 1 in 4 dante did kill mundas and he and trish leave to start up Devil May Cry and in 2 Nero Angelo killed dante but he breaks free from Mundas's control and then kills Mundas and Trish and then decides that he should continue Dante's legacy so he takes up Devil Never Cry and becomes the brooding Dante we all know and love :P

We'll see how things go when Capcom makes DMC5. I believe Capcom will most likely make DMC2 non-canon though if they decide to continue the story.

i hope not DMC2 was rushed but it had some good things about it and besides that DMC5 would most likely take place traveling through HELL!!!
 
Hey Meg5493, think of it this way. Devil May Cry is now Final Fantasy. DMC1, 2, 3 and 4, are like Final Fantasy XIII, XIII-2 and XIII-3. All part of the same world and same characters.

DmC: Devil May Cry is Final Fantasy XV, completely separate from the past games. There are similar things like demons and a character named Dante; just like all Final Fantasy's have crystals and chocobos. But they have nothing to do with the original.
 
Hey, without DMC2, we wouldn't have Twosometime, Rain Storm, Trickter Style, etc. Gotta give credit where it's due n.n I loved DMC2 when it came out, and then DMC3 blew it out of the water, haha.
 
Or maybe Nero learning about his past, and then actually going to save Dante from Hell.
