Strong language

Hello everyone

Watched few videos today and noticed that this game contains trash talking more than any of the previous DMC games , I really don't know why all this trash talking and using allot of bad words like Sh!t,Fu*k,B!tch, put spin on this and noticed that they made Dante a dirty motha fu**er.

I don't know if this is how would they make Dante and devil may cry cooler than ever , but i think it has gone too far.

it's okay using bad words but not in every ****in scene in the game :(
I just noticed today that most of the western games contain Strong language and sexual content , and sometimes all these things are not necessary in the game but they add them just for fun , I swear if Final fantasy was a western game it would contain sexual content and strong language.

my point is . . it's okay to have strong language in games and even nudity if it was necessary and if they were a part of the game and a story related but if they weren't what's the use of them??

I have a similar problem, you see, I'm 16 years old (I'll have just turned 17 when DmC comes out) and I come from a religious family. Now, my mother lets me watch violent movies and play violent games and what now because she knows that I can handle it, but the problem is my 10 year old younger brother :( She does not want him anywhere near this game
AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Dante's a lot more angry in this narrative than in the past games, with good reason; he was consistently bullied and abused by demons, the same people who killed his mother. One thing that's very common is swearing, especially those with anger problems.

Instead of being so campy like the classic series, DmC is going for a more serious tone. That's about it. And take into consideration that all that they've shown us doesn't mean every single other word in the game is swearing, and what swearing we have been shown is really only a few seconds in a ten hour game.

Yeesh, doesn't help when you try to play a game with the word "Devil" in it...now does it O_o

Dang A.$h!nati! You said that the strong language in DmC offends you yet you use quite a bit in your opening post. Lol
Well I could see how some people would fear there being an abundance of strong language since some of the trailers have highlighted strong language, but we have seen numerous scenes where Dante doesn't curse, and the developers have said that throughout the game there is alot less cursing than what it is highlighted in trailers.

Says bad words aren't good to say in games. Says "****in'" while saying it.

Also, why are you surprised Dante said Sh*t? He said Sh*t and son of a b*tch in the anime quite a bit.

Plus Nero said "Go blow yourself" to Sanctus, and flipped off Dante.

That and it's been confirmed that Dante rarely drops the F-bomb anyway, so there's something.

So far we've Dante say "F*ck" twice (write it once), say "Sh*t/Bullsh*t" three times (variations), "Son of a Bitch" once (although in reference to himself), and..."Hell" a few times, but that one really doesn't count for much these days :p

Yeah but think about all other games with really foul language, like a GTA, title and how many time we heard foul language through the previews for those. I think it might be a really high number just for previews alone so how much more do we have to look forward to in the actual game that has people thinking it's overly abondante with the language?

But as for the question, I think nudity and cursing are fine as long as they aren't there just for the sake of it.

I took a creative writing class my freshman year of highschool and the teacher's son was in the class with me. He wrote a story about a preist that jerked off in church... and that was his story. I heard them discussing it before class and the teacher was trying to explain to him that that wasn't a story, why was the preist doing this? Was he sick in the head? Was he sexually frustrated or adventurest? Why are we been shown this? There was no purpose to it other than a juvenile atempt at shock.

Even if the reason isn't very good as long as there is some purpose and thought behind the nudity and the coursing and doesn't come off as been there just because I have no isse with ether.

That's a very huge part of it, too.

The narrative and/or the characters have to be fleshed out enough in order to justify it. Granted, almost anything can be written in such a way to reduce expletives and nudity, but those elements also help set the tone. When I looked back on some of my writing from my younger days, I'm glad I had learned so much, because younger me did a lot of random stuff "just for the sake of it," and it would grind some pieces to a halt and ruin the pacing, because you'd get tripped up while reading it. It all paid off well, too :p

As far as things go with what I've seen, DmC seems to have a more adult narrative, but it still likes to poke fun with a few juvenile elements, like Dante's swearing match with Poison. Dante, all in all, does seem like someone who would swear in this. Not profusely mind you, but enough as far as disenfranchised youths like him goes.

As people have mentioned most accounts seem to say that Dante doesn't curse all that often in this game.

That said though, if you come from a religious family or otherwise have a situation where such mature content can be a problem... well DmC might not be something you can get away with. I mean first and foremost it is DEVIL May Cry, but assuming that's not the issue there will be extreme violence (Dante's been known to take a sword or two in the chest) and even if Dante himself isn't a profanity-spewing punk it does seem that at the very least Poison is going to say some very vulgar things in her boss fight (which, you know, she's a giant disgusting slug demon... say what you will but I feel it's only fair her personality matches her appearance)

I notice that even in games with plenty of swearing, the 'hero' character tones it down. GTA IV, for example or Gears of War, I seem to recall the main character only swearing occasionally or rarely compared to their comrades or enemies or the bystanders (or else they have a good reason to). Because it becomes annoying or distracting if they do it to often, and it's easy to make language seem forced unless you've got a real good reason to say it.There's an association of total vulgarity with needless swearing, which is why heroes traditionally aren't the ones with the potty mouth.

Personally I think the less you use swearing with a hero, the more emphasis is made when they finally do swear, and the more intense whatever they are saying because of it. And the opposite when you overuse swearing, it becomes pointless if everyone's at it constantly. It's meant to be there for emphasis, so... I hope that is what they use it for.

However, the exact opposite can do the same. A person who constantly swears stops, and suddenly you know things are serious to them. Granted, the swearing still has to have a place in the narrative, but it's not like Dante is some twelve-year-old whose parents are gone for the night; it emphasizes his anger towards his enemies, and how little he thinks of them. On the contrary, when talking with others, like Kat, his sentences are somewhat short, but never dotted with expletives, putting emphasis on how he interacts with her.

It's a similar effect to someone who constantly jokes around. We see it with Dante in the classic series, where he so much of a good ball all the time, but when the brown pudding hits the fan, he grows more stoic, or speaks with a different tone.

It's all in how well it's all put together, and we'll just have to wait and see with the finished product. I will admit, they could have emphasized less of Dante's swearing, but...oh well. I have faith :p

anyone know what he says after he angel whips through bob barbas eye ball and into the hela-cam? Its sounds so... Platinum games to me
