So , What's The Catch ?

Son Of Sparda Is Back
I'm just wondering , what's the catch ? i mean there is always a catch , right ? so what is it this time ? ..................... and you probably have no idea what on earth am i talking about , don't you ? :P

of course I'm talking about Nephilims and their unique powers and abilities to do things other races can't do. for instance they are the only beings that can defeat/slay the demon king .... that's a great advantage over other races ! to be able to slay the king of demon realm .... it's huge ! but there should be a downside right ?

I mean in every good story the power comes with a price , right ? so what price(s) do you think Npheilims have to pay for their great powers ? is there a side effect or something for killing Mundus ? is that why Vergil is using Dante to defeat Mundus and not trying to avenge his family himself ?

what do you think ? do you think there's a down side for a Npheilim's abilities ? or they are just Supermans without Kryptonates ?

I assume part of the downside is that they are always hunted. Upon discovery they are immediately pulled into Limbo, either by Demon collaborators or the Demons themselves. As Nephilim, they are always considered threats, and thus attacked relentlessly.

Come to think of it, what was the catch to Dante's being half demon in the classic canon?
It was rare that he even showed resentment to the fact that he wasn't human.

I believe Vergil says "According the legend, the only beings that can slay a demon king are Nephilim"
So I think they're "kryptonite" so to speak, would be the fact that they are only half angel and half demon, and shunned upon by the rest of the world, and also, possibly there powers are not up to par with full blooded angels and demons, but another pro, might be that they can wield both angel and demon weapons. I don't know, but I would not be surprised if the game does not touch upon this at all, since it really is just part of the premise. But it would be pretty cool

actually that was one of the problems i had with classic canon , Dante was just so overpowered and he didn't had any weakness !

now guys at NT are great story tellers so i expect them to balance his character by giving downsides to his powers , in the original canon Dante was like a superman without Kryptonate and that made his fights boring after a while cause you knew no matter what happens Dante would always be victorious

that is mostly the downside of being the child of outcasted parents and those are just for Dante and Vergil , I'm talking more about the Nephilim race as a whole and wondering about downsides of their abilities and powers as a species

From what I had heard, it might be the fact that only certain people can move throughout in Limbo, like Demons. However, they would never betray the demon king (or have much reason to). It's possible Limbo City has become so rotten because of the dimension Limbo, where Angels can't set foot, and therefore, cannot logically attack the demon king. Dante, however, is the only of the Nephilim that has a special gene that allows him to enter Limbo - it's also probably part of the reason why Vergil sought him out.

So, being a Nephilim might have everything to do with having the inclination to kill the demon king, and the ability to set foot in his home.

I don't think it was Sparda's intention to spawn a Nephilim who could kill his brother. I think both Vergil and Dante were just by products of Sparda and Eva's forbidden union. "There's always been a war" implies that both Sparda and Eva were rivals but realised that fighting would not gain anything so they fell in love.

Intentions aren't necessary in that grand scheme, it's just that those circumstances are what allow the Nephilim the ability to kill the demon king.

The inability to ever rest in peace, maybe. For all we know, if a Nephilim dies in combat (and considering how many people want to kill them, this is likely), his soul would just turn into a weapon and be stuck to some asshole forever.

And this is purely conjecture, but it seems to me like using all those adversarial powers packed into one body would...hurt. A lot. And would potentially drive a Nephilim insane over time, especially if they overuse. Dante doesn't look like he's having a happy tea party when he triggers. It certainly would explain some things about Vergil.

Finally, being such uncommon hybrids, the chances of them having viable biological children are probably slim to none. Probably just as well, considering Dante's bedroom habits.

the catch here is that nephalim are social outcasts. that's it.

You keep saying "social outcast" but that makes little sense.
how does that not make sense? they wrote that in as an explanation for dante's character. Something about "not accepted by humans or demons so rejected by everybody". If you have an issue with this backstory, take it up with ninja theory

Your statement of him being a social outcast because he's a Nephilim is just plain wrong. Once again, you're grossly generalizing things.

Him not being accepted as angel, demon, or human doesn't owe to his being a social outcast, it just serves as part of the concept of not inherently belonging to any of those three worlds (being half angel, half demon, and looking human, but being none of those things), and justifiably not feeling like there is a place for him. The general public doesn't know he's a Nephilim, and even he didn't know for most of his life so far. Him being an outcast on the fringe of society is because he's a rebellious and angry individual who doesn't care about society itself. It's not like everyone knows he's a Nephilim and avoids him because of it; the demons don't like him and hassle him through violence and slander. Those are the only points when the two intersect, otherwise there are plenty of other reasons for him being a Nephilim, and there are plenty of other reasons why he's an outcast.

so in short, demons made sure that he would feel like a social outcast, because he's a nephalim. Got it

More like Mundus wants him dead because Dante has the power to kill him. It's not him being a social outcast. He's hated because of what he means for Mundus and other demons. Later on it might be the same for angels.
