It is scientifically-based. If a memory is traumatic, the person will sub-conciously choose to conceal this part memory for self-protection. Memory loss doesn't necessarily mean brain damage. It can explain why Dante doesn't remember his mother and probably Vergil.
A form of amnesia, selective memory loss is a rare side effect of head injuries when the victim loses certain parts of his/her memory. Not much is known because this only results when certain areas of the head are traumatized. Common elements that may be forgotten: relationships, special talents (e.g.: juggling, whistling, instrumental talents, etc.), living area, abilities in certain areas (e.g.: a new gymnast forgetting she can not cartwheel yet), and events such as concerts, shows, traumatic events (e.g.: a death/suicide of a loved one or attempt on one's own life). More research is being done into elements that are forgotten and what areas of the skull must be traumatized to cause SML.

the reason the game was pushed back was because of capcom, ninja theory had nothing to do with it as tameem's twitter has confirmed: https://twitter.com/#!/superninjatam
so don't give up on the game just because it's not coming out until next year! :)

well you're not the only one shocked, but i'm glad that we finally have a release date. and i feel like i'm the only one who is some-what happy that the release date is a good ways away, considering the more time put in the game the better it could turn out. :)
btw frieza's in hell thanks to a spirit bomb :)

That is true, I suppose that is a bright side.
To fill the gap we need to find someone to mod the DMC HD Collection to give us "extra" game play. ^_^

I don't think its something that you'd classify as science since it's an emotional responce and emotions are too erratic for scietific classification but there is not enough story to say this is what happened. I still don't see it, why should be have amnesia?
