Taking Back Lordran One Boss At a Time
NOW HEAR ME OUT! This is my opinion on all of this "I miss original Dante" and whatnot. This is MY opinion and I expect it to be respected like I respect everyone else's opinion whether they are contradictory or not.
I've noticed since before I became a member here that some people are basing their opinion on DmC on the fact that the original Dante is gone--which is okay, I guess.
But in my opinion, origiDante's leaving is of no consequence. The fact that our old white-haired friend is gone and replaced by this rougher, black haired man does not impact me beyond a little fleeting feeling of loss and uncomfortableness.
Blasphemy, you may say--but let me explain before you hit the reply board.
First of all, I felt like Dante's character was barely touched upon. I felt that he was on the shallow side of the character pool, right next to the many faceless fighters from Street Fighter or MvC. The most we knew about him was what little the four games told us and the bit that some of the novels told. Then again, I haven't read the novel. The bottom line is: I never felt close to Dante as a character. He was just an avatar for me when it came to playing the games. Sure, he was very cool. I really loved his slick personality--but how many of those cocky personalities do you see everywhere else? Besides, the four games showed different personalities all together and we are just assuming he's just maturing between DMC 3 and 2.
It is a handicap of sorts in this genre of gaming--the main character isn't fleshed out very well. But that's the problem, too: this is a game series. Gameplay is, in my eyes, top priority and the character traits can come later. I'd much rather blast a game for having mediocre gameplay than for abandoning some man made out of wireframes and polygons who wasn't fleshed out right. The gameplay throughout the series was a blast--but what happened to our main character? The men behind the games have failed there--they just do not know how to write a very compelling story.
Who knows what potential our original Dante could have had? I sure do not know, and for that, I must say I do not care for our origiDante as much as some of you do (and I am sorry, but I question that heavily because I cannot empathize with you). He is a virtual man who is as 2D as he is 3D, and for that, I do not mourn his leaving, but nor do I celebrate it.
So it also saddens me when I see that people are knocking the game because it does not feature origiDante. Because neoDante is not origiDante. Now, I know there are more reasons among you who believe that statement, but I can only assume what I can read, right?
Bottom-line: origiDante is, frankly, unimportant to me in relation with other aspects in the series--not just DmC.
Thank you for those who read this patiently.
EDIT: How is this for everybody? I want to keep the green color because I like the color green.
