Ninja Theory: designing games purely for fans "will kill a series"

They are hated by a fanbase that not even their original developer gives a damn about. What does that tell you about the ***** NT could give?
well the uncharted fanbase probably hates tamtam's guts for the naughty dog comment he made a while ago about their animations being overdone.

Because he said that their timetable was inefficient? If professional criticism is forbidden, I bid this world farewell, because then there's nothing much to do.
Read the actual statement, not what EventStatus says.

Here, I even looked it up for you:
"...in Uncharted 2 [Naughty Dog] captured voice in a booth, then did motion capture to the voices. After that, they hand-animated the faces to match that. So you have three different people working on a single performance, which I don't think is the right way to do it if you want to create a believable [character].
I'm actually amazed at how good their scenes are, considering they've done it that way. I don't think that it's true to the performance of an actor."

That was a weird situation.
A journalist asked him if Naughty Dog's animations can be overdone.
Tameem tried not to answer the question.
The journalist asked a second time.
Tameem said, "They can be overdone, but..."

Sh*tstorm.

Tameem apologizes for having said barely anything about--
Sh*tstorm continues.

From what I read in the interview, here's what I think: Without any fans, developers won't make sequels of an original game. Without loyal fans, any product from a brand or a franchise will surely sell poorly. Without fans, your reputation as a great developer will surely not exist. Without fans, many companies will bankrupt from having long running game franchises.

In my personal opinion, Tameem got the wrong way about making games. It is not about making games that have all of the fan ideas implemented and stuff, but it is to make games that will surprise long-time and new fans as well as to hook them to play it more and more with interesting features. This is essentially what I think that developers should do, especially making reboot of games or developing a game from a different franchise that is owned by another company.

Don't mess with this guy, he's from the future.

Fans dont kill series....
I kill series!...

On a serious note, Chaosraiden is right. NT is making a game the way they want it to be.
Devil May Cry is not their game, and they are acting like they own it.
If DMC was an indie game, then It would be in their juristiction.
NT, DMC is not your own little experiment to play around with,
Its an original franchise with a huge fanbase, so
stop acting like you created it!!!

That's just so fundamentally wrong. They are still reporting back to Capcom and they have to nod their heads to it, or this game doesn't happen.
Devil May Cry is not their game, and they are acting like they own it.
You're not at all familiar with the situation and that is painfully obvious.

HS wasn't Indie. Neither was Enslaved. Maybe that's irrelevant.
NT, DMC is not your own little experiment to play around with,
...... -.-
Its an original franchise with a huge fanbase
DMC's fanbase is so terribly tiny, that NT could easily allow themselves to literally throw up in front of every DMC-fans house and they would still get away with it. Thinking DMC is widely popular is delusional, look at the sales.
Halo has a huge fanbase. CoD has. DMC doesn't.
stop acting like you created it!!!
Again: Capcom gave them the franchise and everything you see has been approved by Capcom.
Get your facts straight, before you spread your false pretenses.

You do understand that they're not only talking about the original DMC fanbase, but about DmC fans as well, right?
He basically says that companies shouldn't listen to their fans, and that's just wrong.

P.S.
Does anybody here remember this article? http://www.videogamer.com/xbox360/d...ts_dmc5_to_be_tailored_to_what_fans_want.html

Now thats a false pretence.
Considering your hate for the original DMC series, let me just add that DMC has made 4 sequeles, an anime, and a well written manga series. They are even reselling the games in a HD collection. Guess where the real fanbase is.
in America, Sure, the fanbase is small. that could be why Capcom is trying to appeal to "western audiences".
I dont know the exact numbers, but the Japanese fanbase is much larger.
Before you go spreading your Never-ending Bag of Hate, Lots of us still love the old series, and you can take that to the bank.

Ok... I was just letting off steam on that one. I was just trying to get my opinion out there, so this quote I will agree with.

No.

Stop throwing around assumptions. I hate Dante, not the games.

In the games, that sell less than five million copies. That's where your franchise's fanbase is. Considering that most people who buy games are not even half as fanatical as some of the users in here, I'd say you are less than 2 million.

I'm speaking for Europe and my immediate surroundings.
that could be why Capcom is trying to appeal to "western audiences".
Why do you put the blame on NT then? You admit, that Capcom had the idea, but NT has to be the scapegoat? I'm not trying to stand on anyone's side here, but that's not logical.
I dont know the exact numbers, but the Japanese fanbase is much larger.
Can't say anything about that. I'm talking about Western audiences, since I've never been to Japan.
Before you go spreading your Never-ending Bag of Hate, Lots of us still love the old series, and you can take that to the bank.
Irrelevant. I'm just here to tell you, that dropping your hate on a mostly innocent party in this whole affair is dumb.
Your excuse for a counter-argument makes me think you're running out of ideas. Just saying.

Ok... I was just letting off steam on that one. I was just trying to get my opinion out there, so this quote I will agree with.
What? How? This point just stated that everything you posted before was a lie!

it sounds like something that I came up with around december vacation. after reading a few articles about the game that came out around then I had basically snapped/ gone insane with rage like fluttershy in the galla garden insane. I was going to use my school newspaper as a cover to be able to get an interview with tam or alex jones if I went to a convention that he went to. with important people who think very high of themselves love to humor small papers and colleges with interviews. then I would have given them a lot of softball questions and kiss their asses like they are used to. then once they lower their defenses, ask if they think that their games are this generations equivalent to final fantasy seven which is a game everyone likes. chances are at least one of them will slip and say yes(most likely jones) this will be a video interview then upload it to the paper's youtube channel. and post it around the web.

but yah I'm back to normal now. but I never got that plan completed

It's also true that NT isn't all responsible for DmC, it was Capcom's desire to make this dramatic change in design, they are the ones who thruw away the designs that were more reminesent of the original and if NT hadn't provited that then they would've asked another western develoer to do the same. Bottom line is that Capcom wanted this and we were not going to get a Dante that looked like the old one because Capcom wanted a dramatic change and they were going to give us nothing short of that, with or without NT.

Yeah that about sums up how insane we all went.

What interview content will be used as flame ammo next? Will the skeptics and the supporters both finally STFU? And what awesome My Little Pony reference will mrrandomlulz make next?
Find out next time on: DmC FLAME WAR!
