Its DmC. Not DMC 5. Capcom said this has nothing to do with the numbered series. You can't treat it as a sequel/prequel when its not.
Of course they're obligated, they're obligated to the consumer to give us what we want. That's what we give them money for, for our entertainment and that hopefully we'll stick with their brand so they can garner more money from us.
And not filling in the plotholes is just carelessness and shows they don't care for what the loyal fans think who have been with the series from the first game. Its an utter lack of respect not only to the fans but to the series as well. Maybe if they filled the plotholes from the pass games people wouldn't be so angry about this reboot since we knew that the original series storyline ended.
The novel in i'm referring to (DMC 4 novel) brought up more questions then answered them. Relying on a novel that's only available in one country is not a good way to go about things, especially in a language not alot of people can read or understand. If they only wanted the DMC series as just a way to crank out novels, then why bother making any of the games if that was their purpose.
Yes there are sum games that have big plotholes, but that doesn't mean DMC has to be in that group. The first question a gaming journalist ask a developer of a new game is "So what's the story of the game?" and mostly all developers try to not divulge the storyline of the game since that nowadays storyline is much more important then gameplay.
Just look at God of War for example, a game that's so repetitive that sumtimes you don't even need to change weapons just to get through the game. The reason GOW is so successful sumwhat is its narrative and its consistancy of filling up gaps in the story. We can't rely on gameplay alone like back in the 80's and early 90's, it just wouldn't be acceptable by today's standards.
By saying "I don't want people to ignore the past games" you're just leading people into false hope. We have to ignore the past games since we can't treat this game as a true sequel/prequel to the original series.
Like i said, its fine that you support this game, i'm curious about it to i'm not saying anything negative about it. But saying that DMC fans shouldn't ignore the pass games but then accept this game as part of the series is misleading people.
Ah, I misunderstood you then, my apologies. I did not mean that DmC should be considered as part of the series storyline we know, as you said, Capcom has stated that it is not. What I meant was that fans of the past games shouldn't completely throw this new title out the window before even giving it a chance. There are elements of the Devil May Cry series in this game, and though it is not a continuation of the former storyline, then it -is- the next game in the series. I call it DmC5 so people know what game it is I am talking about, and also because it is the fifth Devil May Cry game.
But yes, it is a reboot and has its own storyline. I did not mean to mislead anyone, I hope you understand that.
There is a similar discussion on another forum I am on, about the upcoming Mortal Kombat game. They too are making a reboot of sorts where they go back and change the former storyline of the first three titles of the series. However, what they are doing is that this reboot is an actual continuation of the main storyline... They have Raiden, a thunder god and the protector of Earth, who is sending a warning to his past self about the Armageddon that has befallen the numerous realms within the game. This Raiden of the past will then do what he can to avoid Armageddon...
My point in saying this is that the MK fanbase was also dubious about this sudden change of the storyline they have come to love, but they gave t a chance to prove itself. Some gameplay footage later, and more and more fans seem more excited about it. I hope the same will happen when we learn more of DmC.
And before you say anything... Yes, Mortal Kombat is a fighting game and fighting games are not known for their storylines, but MK is one of the games who have some deep lore that has only evolved throughout the series. I dare even say it has more lore than Devil May Cry does.
