It's not over it's just we can only help you brainstorm ideas in this stage.
You should write it out as a fanfic and see if people like it. Plus once you do we can give more feedback than. You also have art skills so that is a big plus.

You have the broad strokes of what you want to do so how about you tackle the beginning of the story and then post it so we could see what's up.
any concerns about the beginning before you start?
EDIT- You could start out with Richard pulling up to DMC and meets lucia. He tells her he meet Dante who gave him a job at the agency. He has done 1 or 2 or 3 jobs for morrison and bought a bike with his money. He finds out about Dante's dissapearance and decides to go look for him.
The somnus stuff happened but i rather you not write that till later on. When they go meet nero you could weave that in.

@Z218 After Richard summon Somnus Aeternam. BOSS FIGHT. Richard loses becose Somnus is too powerful.
Richard does not want to give up, but Somnus hits him with a strange lighting bolt generating a big explosion revealing Richard's true nature.
- *looks at his hands* w-what...? Thins is not... possible! I-i.... am what I was hunting for... a demon! *he begins to cry and his tears turns into white orbs* (Devil May Cry 2, Item File — White Orb: "A crystal with condensed demon tears. It will recover your magic power.").
*he turns back to the human form wrapped in a cloud of black smoke that disappears shortly thereafter*
Somnus: Your father did not respect the pact so I killed him and his wife and then I turned his first and only child into a demon. You are my creation now, but you are worthless and foolish. I don't need you stupid creature! *he disappears in a giant lightning*
Richard: *screams very loudly*
END OF THE SCENE
