Lost cause?

@Foxtrot94: Perhaps Nephilims are the only ones powerful enough to go toe-to-toe with the Demon King, after the Hellgate is shut down and he's made "killable" again.

@TWOxACROSS: Now that Limbo has slipped into the "real World", and with Mundus's defeat also, what might become of Sparda? I thought in DmC he was held captive in Hell or something.

He was given "a fate worse than death" when Mundus banished him. So...Sparda might not be on any plane of existence we're privy to.

So THAT is what is really required to kill him. Shutting down the Hell Gate. Not being Nephilim.

Or maybe you have to destroy the Gate, but still be a Nephilim to defeat him...?

It's sort of a mixture. The prophecy just says that "only a nephilim can kill the demon king," and from what we've seen, the nephilim were a threat because they could walk in whatever plane they wanted, essentially taking the fight to the front door of whomever their enemy happened to be (the same could possibly be said for angels, too, since nephilim don't seem to have any set allegiance), and then Vergil had what was necessary to take down the Hellgate and make Mundus vulnerable. The shenanigans with the Yamato, the Hellgate, and Mundus' soul might be products in their own right, but not part of the prophecy itself. Although prophecies are always questionable on how exact they actually are - perhaps it spelled out that the nephilim who kill the demon king do so in the way Vergil had planned it.

I think we all forgot one of the most important elements, humans. Will they accept Dante into their society or will they shun him. Dante only looks human after all. How will Kat be treated for her association with him. How will they fight against the demons, technology magic or something else. How will life in the human realm change due to the war with demons.

And what about the demons themselves? How will they react to Mundus' death, civil war? Who will be their new king, will they submit to Vergil like the demons in Vergil's Downfall. Will more friendly demons like Phineas turn up now that the tyrant is gone.

And on a side note, I find it amusing that Nephilim are destined to overthrow the demon king, yet because Mundus killed Eva and disposed of Sparda in an attempt to kill Dante/Vergil, that they decided to kill Mundus in revenge. So it became a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Aren't they all :p
