Hey guys, I just wanted to clear some things up about my thoughts on DmC (and perhaps some of the thoughts of other people who don't like DmC). I decided to post it here so that as many people as possible get to see it. I obviously don't speak for all who dislike DmC, so please don't treat me as some sort of poster boy to represent 'the DmC hater'. I'm sick of that old bandwagon.
- Why do you dislike DmC? You must be a hater! You must dislike change, or you're some sort of hipster who thinks it's cool to be at odds with 'the majority'.
No. I played DmC, and I did NOT think it was something pulled out of the vile depths of hell or something. I simply:
1. hated DmC's versions of Dante, Vergil and Mundus (not a big fan of Kat either). Their personalities and their voices just rub me the wrong way. Dante sounds like he's not too bright, and the guy who voiced Vergil sounds like... well... like he just found out about acting. Just mediocre. Sort of goes for Dante too, though; he can be very monotonous at times, without much of a reason. I guess that's his 'serious voice'.
2. Aside from that, I thought the world was okay, though it could've been rendered a lot better; jagged edges, too much contrast, etc. The artwork for DmC looks thrice as good as what you see in-game. So I'm not a big fan of the graphics.
3. Then there's the gameplay, which didn't exactly impress me. Going from DMC3/DMC4 to DmC is just... meh. I thought there were too many actions for the amount of buttons on your (360) controller. Switching to angel and demon forms just to maintain a combo didn't really work well (not for me, at least). The rest of the gameplay can be pretty choppy. Even starting to walk with Dante happens pretty abruptly. Furthermore, when you're doing combos, it seems like they forgot a few frames at times. It's like you press the button, and suddenly Dante's sword is already hitting the enemy; there's hardly any smooth transition. Devil Trigger is now not really a DT, it's just a 'red veins/clothing, blond hair trigger'. I think it's pretty lame, and too much of a concession to the fans of old Dante. If you're going to make a new Dante, make him new! And the gameplay doesn't seem as fast-paced as that of DMC3.
4. The weapons and enemies didn't look awesome to me, either. The rebellion looks pretty bland, in my opinion - I'm not saying the first Rebellion wasn't bland too! The enemies don't seem varied enough in terms of appearance. It's a lot of mannequin-like things, and the rest is... steampunk weapons with enemies attached. That's how I see them.
And there's no doubt more to mention, like how terrible the script (mainly dialog) is sometimes, or the soundtrack, but I'm about to be busy, so I might be forgetful.
I just want people to know that there's no 'deep psychological reason' for me to dislike DmC - I just do. Not a hater, not a 'fan', just somebody who thinks DmC isn't great. Most things done in DmC are not to my taste, and taste is unchangeable. The things that weren't done well, like the script, bear too much weight for me to let slide.
