God enslaves humanity through religion? I can already see the cons of that turn out.
The reason why that would be a bad idea is that it will cause a lot of controversy by not only making God a bad guy, but also having to fight God as if he were an enemy and beat him. That would indicate that God is beatable, and would thus p*ss a lot of Christians, Catholics, and other religious groups that follow a single god off. And that's not something DmC needs.
There's a reason why God of War doesn't use Christianity deities as opponents.
I don't see how this is any different from what dmc has already done, ie. a half devil doing 'good' for humanity (Noah's flood was aimed at wiping all genetically corrupted people from the earth for good reason), Mundus featured as the greedy and heartless powerful guy who wants to rule over both realms (God rules over everything in the universe), Sparda was the close brotherly friend of Mundus but rebelled against him (lucifer was most loved by God and he rebelled against God), Sparda and Eva hooked up and gave birth to Dante who would 'protect' mankind (God, Mary, Jesus, need I say more?)
There's no doubt they took inspiration from the Bible, and twisted it to suit their story. Like how pg have turned angels into the bad guys and a witch into a protagonist. It would not surprise me if they brought God into the mix and made Him a bad guy. Would I play it, though? Nope. I never watched The Passion either because it's so easy to fall victim to someone else's interpretation of God/Jesus, and look, I speak for myself but I'd rather not habitually think of the face of some actor or of some painting when I think of my Lord. I even stopped watching Supernatural when they started to bring God into things. There is a line, y'know?
I suppose the majority of people would find it entertaining but I don't pit any enjoyment from anything that brings God into the spotlight because it's generally people who don't believe in God who is at the wheel, so it goes without saying their interpretation of Him will be way off the mark.
So, really, it probably wouldn't **** off a lot of Christians. Some may even play it. I think that we know where our place in this world is, that we know what is happening to this world and what is yet to come. Pick your battles, as they say. Kicking up a fuss about something like this will not change it or stop it, so it's best to avoid it altogether.
