How to make Kyrie a better character?

Ronin

Let's rock, baby!
Is there any way to make her not a generic character?

Perhaps in the future, if Kyrie gets killed (not in DMC5) in a later game by someone. Her body gets taken by a new enemy where she ends up a ritual similar to the Ascension ceremony. She becomes one of their warriors in this form and weapon.

It would help if she had something to contribute to the team like Nico does with her mechanical expertise. It would give her a reason to be with the others versus just staying at home.

It be best if they develop her outside of just being Nero's galpal. Giving her the ability to fight is fine but not an automatic solution.

For example- Kairi always felt like an afterthought with or without the keyblade.

Essentially, she needs to be able to contribute somehow. DMC series is combat-focused, meaning that we interact mostly with characters that can fight, and they get development. Kyrie is... a singer, what will she do, sing demons to death? Might be cool if her songs could somehow heal, but seeing how Nero and Co are part-demons anyway, that might not be that useful of an ability. Mabye make a plot of how she got taught some holy song, and now they need to get here wherever to do whatever? Don't know, just throwing ideas out there, but point is, unless she learns how to fight, she's gonna remain in the background.

As @Z218 said, she needs to be given a role of her own that is not "damsel in distress" in order to develop her as a character, but that on its own is not an automatic solution.

If no luck, then have some new villain kill Kyrie in front of Nero. Maybe he’ll find a new girl in his life... yet she’ll remind him of Kyrie, yet can be tough at times. Think of a Lois Lane-April news reporter.

@Ronin
You could just make Kyrie a reporter specializing in the occult.

@Picard
She could have a sonic scream ability like Black Canary. I was interested in her learning magic spells as that's something we haven't seen really explored in DMC before. It's there but its vaguely explored and tends to be too poorly explained so having her learn magic solves a number of issues. This might be easier to do with Patty as she actually is descended from an alchemist so you could just develop that aspect of her character.

@ef9 o shea
this is probably the easiest way forward.

I don't think making Kyrie a devil hunter would necessarily make her a better character. Nico isn't a devil hunter yet is well liked.

Kyrie doesn't need to be on the battlefield with Nero but she does need more development. Have her express emotions beyond being Nero's conscience and sounding board. We've had Nero's thoughts on Credo's death but nothing from her despite Credo being her brother.

I agree. I think they should kill her off in front of Nero and maybe this could awaken some stronger demonic power inside of him or something.

Anything is better than the rigid shy naive singing priestess

She has been around too much violence and demonic situations to still be soft and innocent

That's why I suggested being a devil hunter , but she could always become a magic practitioner

Maybe work on artifacts and make stuff to aid Nero and co

That is a possibility. Another one is using songs/music to control/damage/kill demons, but that might be hard to implement in terms of controls.

No, they should not. Because that will contribute to Nero's character development, but will do absolutely nothing for her own. Even if she does pull a sacrifice, so what? She had already shown herself willing to sacrifice her life for a kid she had presumably never met back in the opening of DMC4.

In terms of making Kyrie a better character, such a sacrifice would only make sense as a conclusion to character development, but not as character development on itself. And I'm not sure it will make sense even as a conclusion, seeing how it is something she had already been shown to be willing to do.

I never said anything about sacrifice. I’m just not invested in her as a character so that’s why I wouldn’t be bothered either way if she was somehow killed off. That’s just me though.

You said that they should kill her off... that being said, I do not really disagree with your clarification. In the plot itself, she was just a generic "damsel in distress". Hence why I want her to have more presence, to actually develop as a character. Because if she isn't developed, even killing her won't have much emotional impact. As you said - you wouldn't be bothered if she was somehow killed off. And that definitely shows that character needs more development.

Yeah I suppose you are right man. I can’t argue with that. I just don’t know what the best way to go about her character would be as she just seems so boring and out of place for DMC.

@Ronin @ef9 o shea - Make her a stay at home mum lol Does Patty know magic or anything? Because if so maybe she could teach Kyrie some protection spells or something but she ends up being killed because she uses all her power to their kids when demons come after them.

She might know some , the Lowell's have magic in their family

Lady fighting demons with spells would be cool

She could be like kat from the reboot but better

That might be nice. I can't remember any main characters in DMC that fough exclusively with magic. It was always magic + sword, magic + gun, or magic + sword + gun. If implemented right, it might make for a distinct style.

Maybe give that exclusively to Kyrie and that could be her thing. Maybe even say her ancestors were sorcerers as well or something and she had no idea. Patty could be a friend and a mentor to her.
