Solitaire could be Game of the Year. Yet the game that likely deserves to win such an award, Silent Hill 2, is absent from the nominees. I seen it trending on X last night.

Yeah, I cannot believe it either. They're not all with it, clearly.

The game didn't come out until October, so it's possible that there was a cut off date. Games like RE4 came out in their respective years during the spring, and by the summer, had likely sold millions of copies. So maybe that's a potential reason for why it has been omitted.

Such a shame, though. Comeback of the year / decade, and one that restored my faith in Konami again. It will likely still take home at least one of the other awards. 'Best Audio' or whatever, and 'Best Acted', etc.

Well it is also possible silent hill got shunned because keighley is a huge kojima fanboy, and has a grudge against konami since they parted ways.

Yeah. I tire of hearing about Kojima. The series more or less truly died down in quality once Team Silent left Konami to pursue a career elsewhere. The franchise had been lame for a decade before Kojima even got into the fray, because the IP was leased to developers that made mediocre titles.

I just feel like he is overrated, and is praised by fanboys way too much, so it can begin to feel like Team Silent is being overlooked.

Kojima's biggest game Death Stranding, isn't even that fun. You basically just walk around a large map, delivering stuff, and having cutscenes.

The cut off date for nominees of the TGA is like late November. Hence why SH2 still got nominations elsewhere. Just not GOTY. It was a strong year. SH2 was maybe 7th in line, or even 6th, if we don't count expansions. 6th best game of the year by a panel of 100s across the world is still pretty damn good, imo.

Curious, have you payed MGS1-3? Or even his older work like Metal Gear, Snatcher, and Policenauts?

a retrospective on Legacy of kain.
Hoping to read this tonight. I've always wanted to get into the LoK series. I only played the Soul Reaver demo as a teen. I hope to start Blood Omen 1 on GOG soon, then getting the Soul Reaver remaster collection. I have the other 2 games already on GOG also, hopefully they play well on modern systems.

i was fond of the cartoon back in middle school so im curious where it goes next.

new rumors for naughty dogs's next project.

@Axel Stone
kojima is known for his work on Metal Gear and i was curious what his Silent Hills project wouldve been.

death stranding is a decent game but an acquired taste.

that being said, Im not sure a remake should be game of the year and rather they be in a seperate category ala "best remake"

I really need to play the Witcher series. That and Persona and Like a Dragon are probably my 3 biggest "blind spots" for video game series (for a PC player at least, though I have played my fair share of every major Nintendo series, too).

You really should play the witcher 2 and 3, quite possibly the best rpgs ever made.

Simpler, more fun times back then. I don't care what the writer preaches at the end. But I do appreciate how it is mostly a play-by-play for the entire article.

I will get around to them eventually. But for now, series I want to prioritize "catching up" on are Persona, Like a Dragon, STALKER, and Ace Attorney. Luckily, I don't mean to catch up by playing EVERY SINGLE game. But just a couple to get my feet wet and have a better, informed opinion of the respective series.

But as this is the news thread, here's some news!
