Brink free to play on Steam

You decide the combat role you want to assume in the world of Brink as you fight to save yourself and mankind’s last refuge.

So sad that this game is dead. If only it came out in a better state. And with Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, that's two games in a row (I think) from Splash Damage that are hella dead. At least Quake Wars could enjoy a pretty long life.

Shame that these devs can't seem to be more successful. They know how to make teamwork focused gameplay.

Yeah Splash Damage have had some really bad luck with titles unfortunately and let's hope they have learned some lessons from these experiences.

EDIT* Though it does have more concurrent users than Lawbreakers & Battleborn combined.

Microsoft Allegiance goes Free to Play

Microsoft’s Allegiance, first released in the year 2000, was a game ahead of its time. This ambitious-but-accessible game of space combat, strategy and large-scale teamwork was designed for online play in an era where many were still limited to a 56k modem if they were online at all. The game was good enough to attract a fanbase who have held a torch for it ever since, and thanks to them, the latest iteration of the game is available free on Steam.

EVE Online's free-to-play program is going to get a lot more generous

Free-to-play players will have access to a massive number of new skills and ships in December.

EVE Online's free-to-play program, which gives non-subscribing players access to a limited set of skills and ships, is about to get a lot more generous. In December, Alpha Clones (free-to-play players) will have access to a greatly expanded set of ships and weapons.

"We want to bring Alphas a little closer to their Omega [subscribed players] counterparts in terms of strength," said Steven 'CCP Rise' Clark at Eve Vegas 2017 today.

StarCraft II going free to play

StarCraft II is going free-to-play, Blizzard announced today during the BlizzCon 2017 keynote. On November 14, you’ll be able to download the Wings of Liberty campaign without paying a cent, getting access to both single- and multiplayer for free.

If you already have Wings, you’ll get a free copy of the game’s first expansion, Heart of the Swarm. Otherwise you’ll still have to buy that and Legacy of the Void, as well as any extra co-op commanders or voice packs you want.
