Final boss fight is confusing.

I agree with you completely. I think Dante was only mad because Vergil didnt think much of Kat.
I agree to some extent that Dante got mad about how Vergil treated Kat, but I also think Dante was looking deeper into than just that. Dante saw how Vergil treated Kat, a human. Even though she was close to Vergil he treated her like nothing more than a tool to gain what he wanted. So who's to say Vergil wouldn't do that to the whole human race? Use them as tools to gain whatever he wanted.

But it was Vergil that started the fight if Dante didn't fight I'm pretty sure Vergil would have killed him right then and there. I mean Vergil told Dante to stand aside and that he could not let Dante stop him in other words he would kill him if he did something to prevent Vergil from becoming the new ruler.
That's because of the way Dante acted in the first place. Vergil just said his opinion about what they should do next but Dante was the one who made it so dramatic, bringing Kat in the equation yelling at Vergil and dismissing his entire idea without giving him the chance to explain his real intentions and how he wants to proceed in that matter.

Dante could have easily told Vergil that he doesn't agree with his idea and they can talk about it later and right now they need to focus on how they wanna deal with demons.

He did give him choice. Vergil said hey man if you dont want to rule just step down. (he didnt say those exact words lol) Those were not fighting words though.
He didn't really give him a choice more like an ultimatum. Either rule with me or get out of my way. Not much of a choice if you ask me. And like btmudd28 said Vergil drew his sword first, he was ready to do what was necessary to get what he wanted.

I see your point but lie Dante started to have a problem as soon as Vergil started to mistreat Kat. Like at the headquarters when he wanted to leave her. Dante got ****ed. Also when she was kidnapped and Vergil said that they couldn't rescue her. Dante got ****ed. Dante never got mad at Vergil unless it involved something with Kat. I dont think Vergil would have turned evil if Dante asked him not to brother to brother but Dante got all offensive. You can tell when you watch the ending. Dante starts to make up things like Vergil was fighting for his own freedom and other nonsense like that. Another thing is when Vergil said that humans are weak and frail. He wasnt lying. Can we defeat nephlims? No. Can we go out and beat up demons? No. The humans need the nephlim to protect them. Dante got mad without even hearing what Vergil was going to really do. All he said was that he and Dante was going to rule. If Vergil was really that bad he wouldn't have said that him and Dante would rule. He would have said only himself would rule but he didnt. Vergil's intentions were pure. I just feel like that did Vergil wrong.

I do think Vergil's intentions were good, but just like numerous Batman villains; good intentions with bad ways of going about those intentions. And I don't think Dante overreacted at all, I mean he just spent this entire journey to take down a monstrous tyrant and Vergil never once mentions that he wants to take his place. Vergil gives Dante false belief that they are doing this for the freedom of the human race and then once Dante finally kills Mundus Vergil swoops in and tries to take his place. I don't blame Dante for reacting the way he did, it's basically like all the work he did was for nothing because Vergil just wants to take the place of Mundus and possibly become the next demon king.

The way i see it. They already decided they were going to fight. Thats why they started stepping back from each other at the same time.

I agree to some extent that Vergil sounded a little Mundus like, but it for all we know it could have been just some bad choice of words :/
I mean Dante could have given Vergil a little time to explain himself before getting all offensive and making up stuff about Vergil fighting for "his own freedom" and those kind of things.

Yeah I can understand that. Dante should have given Vergil more time to explain what exactly he meant.
But I wouldn't say Dante was making up the stuff about Vergil fighting for his freedom because if you think about it. That's exactly what Vergil was fighting for. He wasn't fighting for the human's freedom because he wanted to rule them, he was fighting so that he could be free.

As you said it yourself Dante didn't give Vergil that much time to explain himself so maybe he didn't really meant to rule them but to lead them?
Even if he really meant to rule them still it doesn't necessarily means that he wasn't fighting for their freedom. The problem with Vergil and Dante could have been that their definition of freedom were different! Dante thinks that freedom means letting humans do what ever they want to do, let them decide their own future. And I agree with that.

But we don't know what was Vergil's definition of freedom. He said that he wants to rule them because they are like a child, that they are weak! For all we know by ruling them Vergil could have just meant to being able to protect them from demons he has to be in place of power.

There is no way to tell what Vergil would have done to humans, or whether he would have given the freedom to them or not.

Man you put alot of exclamation points in that paragraph. Lol

lol
That's actually half of the exclamation points that were in my original post :P
Don't hold back on the exclamation points!!!!!
But anywho I think it's kinda cool that the ending can be interpreted in different ways. Its good to see some healthy discussion going on in this part of the forum. :)

yes but Vergil also treats humans like slaves and thinks nothing but of himself he also had the intention of killing his own brother and despite the fact that Kat di more than him just because she is human he treats her like a some what useful dog. So his ruling would have been just as bad as mundus or even worse since it seemed like at least the people were living in peace with mundus ruling them. lastly Vergil describes the humans as his subjects.

umm vergil didnt say "hmm now that mundus is gone do you guys think we could lead the humans and help them out or something" he said "the path is clear for us to rule" and refered to humans as "subjects" point is that he made it clear that it was his plan all allong. hence why he wouldnt take no for an answer when dante refused to support the idea and vergil stated several time "stand aside" as in "get out of my way or else."

That's just who Dante is, and not just in this incarnation. He's a hothead and he'll rush bullheadedly into what he thinks is right. in this incarnation he seemed to have gotten the best from both his parents. Caring like his mother and 'too big for his damn boots' like his father.
He saw Vergil mistreating a girl he cares about, saying things that sounded a lot like what Mundus was saying. He tried to get his brother to stop and his brother reached for his sword. During the fight Dante asks him to stop multiple times but they're both stubborn in their own way. Opposing each other was only ever going to convince them each that their was was right
