I find it rather interesting that based on those sales figures alone, the last dmc game that came out got the most sales - incidentally, it was one that had the most rage centred on it for being too different and including a character that divided the fans straight down the middle. I mean, it wasn't that long ago really that we had flame wars over who did and didn't like Nero - it's probably why Capcom aren't overly concerned about reactions to the new Dante. They must look at sales for the last "hated" title (for some, at least) and think "controversy = better sales". And I don't think they're far wrong on that score, if I'm honest.
People are going to buy the title for most likely one of the following three reasons: 1) They like the game; 2) They hate it and want to prove their point by being able to say they played it to give their claims about it some gravitas or 3) They've never played a DMC game before and are intrigued by not only the appearance of the title itself, but also the drama surrounding it. Either way, Capcom are lol'ing all the way to the bank.
