DmC Sales so far

Yeah and EA scrapped it... And Capcom is nothing else

And seriously.. As much as I hate the FPS **** and people buying them like crazy. God of War at one platform is doing way better, games like Lolipop Chainsaw Massacre has done better, Ni No Kuni is doing well and many other games besides FPS.

So just saying. DmC has done bad cuz everyone is buying FPS is just a lie.
Oh no, I'm not saying only factor, but teh market has shifted, was my point. Chainsaw Lolipop did well, but also consider...Zombies. EVERYONE is loving zombies, to the point BLACKOPS has a entire Zombies mission pack.. With GoW, It's a button masher HnS which got rave reviews for being a Western Anti-hero version of DMC, and even trumped itself as the DMC killer.

What's killing DmC is a shifting market focus, some really bad PR choices, an uphill battle with a lot of hate being thrown at it for changes ment to help revitatlize the setting, and a casuals audience that is more interested in something that has a lower end learning curve. All these factors contribute. Sometimes even a good game can get screwed.

Since when? GoW is brilliant, like a throw-back to early 90's beat'em ups and 80's fantasy films.

I never said negative about GoW, but it's try it's an entry style HnS with button mash combo mechanics, QTE events that break the pace to be honest, and one of the most unlikable protagonists IMO I have ever seen. It also did trumpet itse;f ast the DMC killer, RIGHT ON THE BOX.

a)Those are sly stabs at GoW and b) nothing about DMC on my covers.

now we have to see what Capcom will do.
  1. Blaming NT for it and doing a sequel alone/with someone else
  2. Going back to the original
  3. Ending the franchise/Putting the franchise on a break of a long long time
1- Why blame NT? Even if it sell 1 unit, it still is a good game.
2- You mean anime haired heroes, dragon ball z cutscenes, 10 mission backwards game?..I dont think so. Even if they try, it will stay on shadow of NT version cause of insane designs/animations/storytell/ost.
3- Thats possible for now. But to me, good game is a good game and DmC is a good game, the rest is just JERSEY SHORE talking -points Macrabe- The most sensable guess is ''There is a movie in the way so there must be another DMC game on the way, probably DmC2 but all we can do is just wait''

Agreed, going back to the original will only confuse newcomers to the franchise, hell I WAS confused for a while as I´m technically a newcomer

Imagine it: "Oh man! A New DMC! Time to kick some ass to combichrist!...wait? Why is he dancing sevillanas?...Why is he acting so stupid?...the hell is this dialogue?...who the hell is Nero?, WTF ARE THIS CONTROLS!?"

It's either DmC2, or **** you DMC is ded

I'd love for Capcom to end up doing both lines, DMC5 for the old fans ala classic Megaman/X/Zero/ZX, maybe finish eth storyline(or what sembulance of one it has), and DmC2 as the continuiation of a spin off series ala EXE/Star Force as a seperate continuity like it is intended as. But teh returns really may only justify one of them by the time the Fiscal counts finish. To be fair, it's been 5 years since DMC4, and classic DMC has been out of the limelight for a while. With all the backlash DMC4 got, and the fact almost the entire team left Capcom save for a few stranglers that really want to move on to other projects, and like hell are they gonn'a grovel to Kamiya to handle it, a reboot with outsourcing was the only option, a reboot THEY dictated, then almost left NT to take the flack for when NT was original going to just make DMC5. Did NT make some bad publicity calls? yeah, a few, saying that Dante would get laughed out of a bar without really giving the context didn't help, but honestly, I read back over the interviews. Tameem never said "Old Dante isn't cool, ours is LOADS better", he stated that what was considering cool back when DMC1 came out may not be as effective now. And honestly, DMC4's Dante wasn't cool, he was a damn joke, and to perfectly honest, if he's our frame of reference, YES, he'd be laughed at for walking into a bar like that. I honestly don't wann'a go back to that. Would I like to see Nero again? yeah, i see potential in the character once you get the intent off of "it's young Dante with a purple coat." Would I like to see a continuation or maybe conclusion to teh class story before heading full steam into the new universe? I admit, yes. Some resolution to Nero, to DMC2's ending, to actually trying to fix the holes in the plot you could drive the DEATH STAR through, yeah, it would be nice. But shoudl we expect that to follow right up after the Reboot and resume everything?

No. Newcomers that came in with the new game will be so lost, they'll complain about nothing at all making sense with the plot even more than with DMC4. Considering how much money Capcom blew on DMC4 and then ended up half-assing it, I'd say cut the budgets back, and get it back to the core that made everything so fun in DMC classic for one last blow out as a finale of that series storyline. Maybe even give some connection of that universe giving birth to the new one somehow, to explain the seperation in dimensions.

But to just abandon all the work NT put into DmC and go right back to the rehashing that would be a quick fix DMC5...no. I'd rather DmC2: The Black Angel

Thats not Capcom's fault especially if its DMC"5" thats like if I went out and bought Kingdom Hearts 3D and then complained about how the story didn't make since. Also leaving a story unfinished will not go well with alot of fans heck Capcom lost more DMC fans then gained from the reboot.

But every KH is related, only idiots say "I will skip this portable bullshit and go directly to 3!" in this case, we are talking about 2 different series with the same name

My friend...Words so true have never been spoken, I completely agree.

Each DMC is loosely related to each other Capcom is just being lazy especially with cutting the development time with 4 but with Capcom lately I wouldn't want them making a DMC5 they would either mess it up completely or make it another prequel

If a prequel involved being a very well planned out and designed game based on being SPARDA during his rebellion....then YES!

You'll get 14 year old dante having adventures that take place before DMC3 but not after the anime series and it will re-introduce Lucia somehow, and you will like it.

(And yes, I'm aware it's complete bollocks)

Awwww...but mom! I WANN'A PLAY AS SPARDA AND BE TOTALLY BAMF!

Wait...wasn't that essentially DMC4? Sorry, no, had a wishful thinking moment. DMC4 was Bleach the Motion Picture game guest starring Cowboy Clown!Dante.

Look, guys, here's the bottom line:

1) Any sequel, whether it be Devil May Cry 5 or DmC: Devil may Cry 2, will be a disappointment as Capcom will take a chainsaw to the budget. Game series that might not sell much over a million (if it ever reaches that, in DmC's case) lifetime don't get AAA budgets. Capcom was so sure that DmC would break sales records, so any confidence it has in the Devil May Cry name has been extremely shaken.

2) A DmC: Devil may Cry 2 will be closer to the original Devil May Cry titles than DmC was. Capcom will be looking to salvage some sales from the old fanbase as obviously they failed to get a new fanbase. So even if Capcom does go with Ninja Theory again, it won't be the DmC 2 that you want.

3) Devil May Cry 5, if it gets made, won't be the DMC 5 fans want. Itsuno is working on Dragon's Dogma 2; Kobayashi is working on Sengoku Basara 4 (if rumors prove to be true) as well as half a dozen other projects; Tetsuya Shibata (the composer for Devil May Cry 2, 3, and 4) left Capcom shortly after Devil May Cry 4 was released; Bingo (the main writer for Devil May Cry 3 and 4), left Capcom very shortly after Devil May Cry 4 was released; there is no gaurantee that Rueben Langdon and Johnny Yong Bosch will be available to do a Devil May Cry 5 as they both have several projects that they are working on and others that they are planning on in the future; and most of the former team that worked on Devil May Cry 2, 3, and 4 have now been split up across the company. So even a Devil May Cry 5 wouldn't make fans happy as there would be a brand new team with brand new voice actors on top of brand new writers. You may as well just make DmC: Devil may Cry 2 in that case.

4) With the expected rise in development costs Next Gen, the sales disappointment of DmC, and the uncertainty of Devil May Cry 5... Devil May Cry as a franchise may very well be hung up for the time being or for good at this point.

Nobody wins. This whole situation has just been one enormous nightmare for Capcom; for Ninja Theory; and for the fanbase as a whole.

False, the nightmare is for Capcom and the Fans, Ninja Theory made an amazing game that was critically praised, they needed that kind of reputation....Everything else...yep,we are SOL

However, the assets for DmC are there, making a sequel may not be as expensive as making the game from 0. So it can happen, FFXIII is a pretty good example of that tactic and they made a decent, playable, fun and cheap sequel...story aside.

FFXIII-2 sold 800000 copies IN A YEAR, and we are still getting Lightning Returns because the niche fanbase asked for it. The same can happen to DmC...I hope

What Ninja Theory got was their 3rd game in a row that has had critical acclaim but has failed to make any kind of money. Critical acclaim only goes so far when the bills come due.

You can't reuse PS3 and 360 assets on the next gen consoles and expect people not to laugh at how bad it looks. DmC 2 would come out in 2015 at the earliest, and the new consoles are already being announced within the next few months.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 sold over 2 million copies in the span of 3 months and according to Kitase ended up selling a total of 3.1 million copies so far. They also had about $100 worth of DLC for people to buy, which of course added millions more to the overall profit. For a game that reused 80% of XIII's assets, was made in 18 months, and had as bad a reputation as it did that was a phenomenal success.

Thats the only excuse another prequel with Dante would just be filler at that point I want a continuation I mean basing the game in hell isn't that hard aruaggggggggggggggggajgmkda

Verily squire, the public doth desire cutscenes such as this one.

Behold the hair changing colour, the floating debris and the look of constipation! Surely these are not the ken of thine lowly Dragon Ball Z!
