I'm so sorry. xD

people didnt like the white hair because its iconic.
people liked it because that white hair was what defined the character dante.

his hair could been red, purple, green, black...any colour...and people would feel the same way.

its because its not about hair colour.

Sorry, I really don't think it was Dante's hair that defined him as a character - not in a sea of thousands of other white-haired hero characters, especially ones that are arguably more iconic and with better characterization.

Dante's personality is what defined his character, IncaDemo. To place that all on his mop is rather shallow, and...honestly sorta ignorant (from a completely objective ideal of how characterization works). You'd have to ignore every other part of Dante, from his personality to his background in order to come up with "because he has white hair" is what makes him who he is. In reality, if Dante had any other color of hair or coat, he'd still be the same badass ninja turtle everyone loves. Dante's character defined his character...

Speaking of Ninja Turtles, they're pretty iconic with their colored bands, but hey, in the original comics, they didn't have different colors, and each turtle was still an individual. Colors really mean nothing at all.

Also - you really just said "the hair is important" and "the hair isn't important" in the same sentence...

True that. I think the point is that his personality is what made Dante the Dante fans loved, but his whige hair was an outstanding trait that made him recognizable at first sight.

Yep. The turtles not only wore all red but they weren't even the same Ninja Turtles most people know and love today. Those Mirage Comics were pretty dark and the turtles killed people and sh!t. While I do like the Mirage series I'm not gonna lie and say I don't commonly associate the the turtles myself as fun and pizza loving characters because I like those versions. And I did love the cartoon back in the day.

When it came to something as trivial as white hair that's all the stubborn fanboys saw and it's like they never understood the point of the whole thing because the hair had more significance in DmC than in any other Devil May Cry game. It symbolized Dante's growth.

DmC was going to be an origin story to Dante. Think of it as Dante:Year One. That wig joke was suppose to be ironic but also saying "not in a million years" and dismissing the look like he did was showing what kind of character he was. He didn't care about the title of the hero and Dante not being very likable is kinda the point.

At the end of the game Dante gets that full head of white hair after awakening his demonic potential to defeat Vergil. Hell. you HAVE to go Devil Trigger to beat Vergil. It's even letting the player make that transition with Dante. Dante getting the white hair at the end of the game was like Bruce Wayne putting on the Batman cowl for the first time.

Even when Dante and Kat are just hanging out at the end Dante says "I don't even know who I am anymore." Kat then turns to Dante and I think not only to comfort Dante after the events that happened but indirectly address the player at the same time because she uses the words "I know exactly who you are, you are Dante, nothing more, nothing less."

He's got that full head of white hair making him look now like Dante. DmC is the most Dante centric storyline ever in the series and also his journey in DmC actually to an extent also mirror's Sparda's legacy. Oh will you look at that. Looks like they really do care about the white hair and *gasp* so does NT. After all, not only did we get told multiple times it was going to be not only different but an origin story to Dante.

Plus like a TwoX said. In a sea of characters who have white hair and red coats it wasn't his look that made me like him. I don't think Devil May Cry was about white hair and a red coat. I think it's about slicing up a bunch of demons being this cocky badass demon hunter.

White hair is one of the traits of Dante.
I did not mean that white hair was only thing that defined him, but it was a one important thing considering he was born with white hair.

im done with this stupid topic. You ask for understanding for DmC and Ninja theory and its character NTDante, yet you all so conveniently ignore the reason why people got angry. change of character from original (the character people loved) to a reboot (noone asked for).
And you so ignorantly narrow this reason to "white hair uh huh".

noone cares about the colour white in a general context. People give a **** because its the hair colour of Dante. It is the character that makes the colour mean something to us fans. Not other way around.

And no in no good way do i view NTDante as original Dante just because he shares the same name and have similarity because of marketing purposes. Even the story and differences points out they arent the same character.

I'm pretty sure everybody knew this from the outset, and it doesn't make the severity of the fan outrage any better.

People hate change, and in this instance it's even more justified under the fear that it would overwrite the existence of classic Dante.

But I'm preeeeetttty sure nobody on either side was making the argument that fans hate newDante because they just hate black hair as a color or whatever. I mean, that sounds like a strawman from my standpoint.

guessing capcom wishes now they just let NT do DMC5, huh? granted, my opinion is a grain of sand on a beach, i might as well put it out there. i love DmC. i love the old series as well. do i think that NT would have been ripped to shreds by angry fans even if DMC5 was done by them? yes and no. there would have been a little civil war among fans (like now) but on a smaller scale. based off the feel of the game, i would guess nero was going to be the main protagonist. that may or may not have added fuel to the fire. and even if capcom decided to do DMC5 inhouse they'd still be hated for it. i mean, lets be real. DMC4 was a comercial success, but layed the ground work for a war. debate started and there were some who thought a reboot would have been a good idea where as others thought there could be a spin-off that could bandage the "wound". some thought that there could have just been another sequel. but my point is, the DMC/DmC game after DMC4 was going to start a war among us regardless of who made it. i'm just getting tired of all the commotion. now if you'll excuse me. i'm going to my friends house and i'm gonna hug her for no reason.

Ditto with me. Kinda. With me, it was all about the gameplay. It could have been freakin' High School Musical and it still wouldn't have mattered to me if it had...

But that's the point of DmC, since it's a retelling, it's using the characters names to put them in different situations. In the same way Peter Parker is an iconic name with his Spiderman symbol, yet has been re-created multiple times in different universe to the point he's now a very young teenager who's black with a new name. I think some people forget that the point of DmC is supposed to be an interesting twist(and alternate universe) in which the icons are changed but you can still feel the presence of the original source material.

Ever watched the modern film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet?
"WTF these characters don't use guns and drive cars in the original Shakespeare story" well...no obviously not because it's supposed to have the essence of the source material but turned into sub-product using an alternate universe. There's also an alternate universe in comic books where (What-if)Superman landed in Russia. The Red Son series even changed the iconic Superman symbol into a sickle and hammer(Dantes hair changing from black to white).

I honestly don't understand how to basic concept of retelling stories with a twist could've been missed by so many people. Comics(Batgirl now a transgender), films(King Kong 2005), books(Pride and Prejudice Zombies), games(Alice: Madness Returns) have all done this.
