22. DmC: Devil May Cry (Best action game)

"Reboots--or "reimaginings" in the case of DmC: Devil May Cry--are a double-edged sword. On the one hand, they offer the chance to breathe some life into an aging franchise. On the other, they risk ****ing off the invested fanbase. DmC managed to do both. Say what you will about the new Dante, but the gameplay here speaks for itself.

DmC is 2013's best action game. It's easy to get lost in the rhythmic flow of combo-chaining and demon-juggling, especially with so many weapons at your disposal. Best of all, it's incredibly easy to swap between all of them, combining their attacks and unique combos to unleash the ultimate beatdown on the evils inhabiting Limbo City. And let's not forget: the living, shifting nature of the demonic setting is awesome, as is the accompanying soundtrack, which together make DmC an audio-visual treat."

I voted DmC it surprised me and was really good which was a nice turn of events for me as I am a die hard original DMC fan I really liked mgr too but not after beating revengeance mode it got boring then

You know when MGR got boring for me? The minute the actors opened their mouths. It was all downhill from there, sadly. :thumbsdown:

Sam just seemed like he was trying too hard to copy Patrick Bateman (I say this because he was slaughtering everything in sight with a sh!t-eating grin).

I'm a die hard Metal Gear fan and I just expected more from it since I've been waiting for a Cyborg Ninja game. I've seen P* make better action games and as a Metal Gear game MGR falls flat on its a$$.

In a nut shell, it's just Ninja Gaiden with Metal Gear wallpaper.

Also, I'm sorry about forgetting Saints Row IV. To be honest, I didn't know about the parkour powers and the dubstep gun until just now. I never paid attention to the series, so I had no idea it had taken the "Prototype" route.

I actually had a lot more fun with MGR. It got boring at times but for the most part I thought it was awesome. I love zandatsu, the kicka** soundtrack, some of the funny MGS references, I even like the story better. (Although I don't really like DmC's story so that isn't saying much). Although I wish they stuck with the Fox engine for the game. It looked a lot more interesting when it was first announced.

DmC wasn't that good, but I can say it was hella better then that terrible bore fest called MGR. I mean for a game about cyborg ninja, this game was very politically inulting.

I also laugh at how people say DmC has to much F-bombs, when the final boss goes on a f*ck rant like a little bitch.

So upset that so much cursing was in MGR's script. I dislike Raiden now. He can't be redeemed from this game.

I am sad that they changed his design so dramatically. Also I liked his characterization more in 4. I believe that MGS4 Raiden is best Raiden.

Also MGR really isn't suppose to be about pulling off crazy combos. Its more about integrating Zandatsu into it's combat and the idea of actually CUTTING your enemies and environment. AngryJoe makes a pretty good point in his review of the game that a lot of other hack and slash game don't feel like you are truly cutting down your foes even though you carry a sword around.

Gotta ask Joe what he thinks about Afro Samurai, Original Ninja Gaiden, and Ninja Gaiden reboot and how those feel when you're slicing into your opponent. These are games MGR takes it's influence from heavily. Now Metal Gear Rising had it PEGGED.

God I wish that game stayed on the FOX engine. The animations look amazing. I think that Ninja Gaiden is another series that got cut up your enemies dead on.

I may not care much for Raiden but, MGR totally f#cked up his resolution. He was DONE in MGS 4. He retired from fighting and decided to go spend the rest of his life with his family. He even got his body fixed up so he wasn't just some war machine anymore.

MGR is like well f#ck that. It annoys me to a certain extent. If I cared more about Raiden I might actually be really p!ssed.

Yeah, my main problem. I enjoyed MGR for what it was. But, "Ninja Gaiden-like games" combat can't compare to a DMC game. MGR's combat is more about flow. Where as DmC's combat about chaining stylist combo. Like in traditional DMC fashion. Some guys are Ninja Gaiden guys and others are DMCs.

I'm actually playing Saints Row IV with my buddy right now, and holy crap it is fantastic :'(

Once again it just goes to show that the game would have been so much better off with staying as Metal Gear Solid: Rising, where it sat before MGS4's story.
