For comparisons...well The Zombieverse was a fleshed out more of a gritty and dark feeling like this reboot.(despite the numerous undead heroes and villains) Just the feel that its feeding off what the Original(616) was about a what if kind of version if demons took full control without anyone standing in the way.
And as for the fanfic....as much as I don't like to bring it up(I really don't) But yes. (Like it, love it, dislike it, flame the crap out of me I don't care, it ain't perfect but I try my best.)

Oh no I actully liked it. It was actually written very well and I liked the character interactions. I never thought Id enjoy a fanfic of Dante and the ponies. Its because of this fanfic that I got intrested in MLP.

I'd imagine Nero suffers from the same as certain DC characters like Wally west(Kid Flash) or Connor Hawke( 2nd Green Arrow) who were characters envisioned as replacements for their superhero mentors because they were more younger, relatable,and modern than their counterparts.
Which means when you used the NEW 52 to reboot the mentors and made the mentors those things, it left them with out a role :'(
