DMC and its roots.

^i think quite a few fans are worried about that.

IMO, I think Capcom Fudged up the plots with the appearance of Nero... they couldn't explain what happened to Sparda.... They came up with a reboot to take the fans minds off of the plotholes from the past games... but that's my conspiracy filled opinion
agree with you,its kind of convoluted right now(the canon)but still i would feel better if they had tried to fix the problems instead of bring another line to tangle with it even more.

Till about 4, it had an equal balance between both cultures.
4 became your average shonen anime. Reminded me of the manga Bleach when I saw it.

Most of its problem were the development team didnt know what to do with it.
Thats not cause of culture, but incompetence.
 
I honestly don't think there's much of a Western element to the game at all.

The gameplay is the epitome of a Japanese game. Difficult, technical, and fun.
I'm not so sure about the story. It was retconned and corrected lots; the novels, manga and anime may or may not count as canonical; Dante's character only developed in the first and third games (I think) and the fourth game (regardless of how great the gameplay was) looked like Final Fantasy and didn't make an effort to explain or improve upon the story. But flimsy storylines and plotholes happen in Western media too, so I'm kind of neutral on that.

I know its Western influences included Dante's name, his face (he looks white most of the time), the "action movie" tone and script, and maybe the soundtrack.
It's just that I can't see an over-the-top anime-style pretty boy protagonist as being Western. There's nothing wrong with it, but it's not something that pops up often in the Western media.

I think the classic series is a mostly fun, goofy, awesome Japanese game through and through.
This game is being made in England, and I think they're going to go for a Western video game feel.
Excuse the obvious pun, but Red Dead Redemption's a good example.
It was heavier on the narrative and presentation (storyline, dialogue, characters, backdrops, etc.) than it was with gameplay. Even though that game has some pretty fun gameplay.

DmC is made with western themes and made in a western style (from a company that usually makes games with eastern themes in a western style.)
 
DMC is the opposite of (ironically) Heavenly sword. DMC has western influences and themes with an eastern presentation and style. Heavenly sword Is a game that has eastern influences with western presentation and style. DMC is a very Japanese game down to it's core. It just takes it's inspiration from western culture. Sort of like a samurai that wears Levi's jeans and Nike sneakers.
 
A western hero, living in a western world and fighting with eastern style. Its like that movie "the musketeer"
 
Devil May Cry is an amazing game. very few game franchise have surpassed, or equaled the standard it has made. for instance the MGS franchise. to be honest, in my view DMC has a very western feel to it, it has none of the japanese myths of demons, nor there idea's about them. the simple and clean fact of it all is, and this being the game creators reasoning behind it if you ask me is, the western views of demons are of a more...Dark, monsterus nature, While the eastern views on demon's are not nice little kittys you wanna pet, honestly, which one has the scarest folk lore about them? western.

^This! Except I'd say that the presentation and tone of the original DMC1 was trying to be more western too.

@Pimb: You are probably referring to our discussion over at unity right? If you were referring to my viewpoints you're completely misrepresenting them here, I've never said that DMC should try to seek being more coherent and exact with the Judeo-Christian interpretation, or even doing so in order to introduce more depth. My point was why should it be a problem or a point of concern if the series continues to draw heavily from the Judeo-Christian sources as it has always done, and something which has always been an important part of the series' mythological template, something you seem to deny completely.

Yes they borrow from other cultures and traditions too, but the creators have always introduced them into the series by Judeo-Christian'ifying' them to suit the template that they've set for themselves ie. Agni and Rudra aren't hindu deities in DMC3, but demons in the gothic J/C style.

If I recall, you had issues with NT introducing the concept of Limbo and using terms as 'Malice' as you thought it tied the series too much with Judeo-Christian lore. Yet you had no problem with the seven sins hell army, the succubus Nevan, the terms hell, demons, and sins alongside with western gothic architecture being used throughout the series repeatedly.

I myself am iffy on the concept of angels being introduced into the series, but not because it would make the series tied in too much with Juedo-Christian lore (because it always has been) but rather because it would introduce a set of complex moral questions and implications that the series just shouldn't delve into from my perspective.
 
Nero was cool, until his entire move set was so small compared to Dante's. The only thing i like about nero is that "shadow step"/ dodge move. And For Dante, talk about having your plate full. I like the way DMC3 style system worked, If DMC4 let you only choose 2 styles at once, then that would of been awesome.
 
But that's personal preference coming into play, surely? I'm someone who gets a little irritated when I see someone in a film or game magically cleaned-up after a battle, with everything looking perfect and in its place. Personal preference, see?

If someone is constantly at war with the environment or other characters within the world, I want it to look as though they've been in a battle. I want grit, realism and a bit of dirt. Hell, chuck in some broken teeth for good measure and make it all the more believable. Not everyone wants that of course but to me the new Dante looks like he doesn't really have the time nor the inclination to have his 3 square meals each day and get a good 8 hours of sleep a night. Nor spend time picking his wardrobe for the day either. It just seems more fitting with the overall style of the game that I hace seen so far. But it won't appeal to everyone, naturally.
 
OrigiDante not only has fast regeneration powers but it also regenerates his hair style and clothes
