Alot of games usually think of the story afterwards. Like they'll brainstorm about what good action sequences they'd like to see and somehow write the story into that. Its way easier in the programming stages of making the game. Its like making a movie. You only have certain things you can make but u can imagine anything, so if you make something thats really cool, then you try to bring it into the story.
I think thats why books turn out to be horrible movies. Or at least cannot compare to the book.

I think it mostly has to do with the constraint of a movie as you only have two hours to get your point across.
Where as a book can take as long as you want it too.

@meg-
Vergil seems like a writer of political stuff to me.
He probably knows the difference between locke and Voltaire.

The actual real life writer's name is spelled Virgil. :P Unless you meant DMC Vergil was a writer? THERE'S an idea.
In germany, it isn't. I studied Latin for 4 years, I know what I'm doing. :D
Also, the original name is Publius Vergilius Maro.
So, wherever you're from, I am probably right. :P

So...you weren't referring to DMC Vergil then? :(

EDIT: Actually, now that I think of it: leave it to America to butcher someone's name.

No, I wasn't. Vergil was a poet from ancient Rome known for the Aeneis, the myth of Romes foundation and it's roots in Troy.

I know that's who you were referring to. It was a joke.

The weapons are all just concept art. I prefer the 3d rendered version myself, because thats what the sword and guns will look like all the time.
The Rebellion looks really thin in one of the drawings but in the screen shots, rebellion looks like a wider sword and the tip is similar to the previous rebellion. Just not as wide at the bottom.

*on a par with.

About those weapons; I'd rather not see any DMC weapons return in this game. I don't even consider DmC to be part of the Devil May Cry series.
But more importantly, I think I'd be bored out of my mind if the same old weapons would return. It would be kind of like the Elder Scrolls series' armor: ''Yaaay, Glass and Daedric... again''.

I'd rather see them try something new... something more exciting.

I wish Alastor returned though. I loved that sword.

Well rebellion could shapeshift so that would be a good way to shoutout to the old series.

plus the old bosses could make an appearance as the armies of heaven and hell needs cannon fodder.

^^ a nod is always cool in a game. As long as it doesnt contrast the story.
But seeing that this is an origin story, there really isn't any telling how far neoDante will go.
He could kill Mundas in this game. Or fight his brother. Or fight his father. The good thing about this game is there is no attachments and NT can create whatever they want. And being good with story telling, it could resembles DMC lore and have a great story behind it.

Hopefully he won't defeat the most powerful devil in his world from the first game. That would be DMC1 all over again, making new Dante a powerhouse like old Dante, resulting into the reason of the reboot's existence(-> starting the whole series from the beginning) meaningless.
Thats if the story leads down the same path. They have angels and demons to deal with. For all we know, this could just be a morality game, where Dante just accends into whatever he's supposed to in this game, And its all just a cliff hanger. I think they will leave it open for a sequel. Since, like you said " That would be DMC1 all over again" it wouldn't be the smartest move to kill the best, of the best... of the best, just yet.

Yup 100% agree with you. Wonder if the angels would actually appear to not be as good as they are made out to be, resulting in a DmC 2 where Dante kicks their butts Bayonetta style.

I'm really not interested in Dante siding with Heaven or Hell, because thats all just cliche. I think Dante should always keep the humans in mind because they are still just the "middle man" awaiting further instructions or death. It said it in the very beginning and it said it in the recent screen shots, Dante is fighting for the better part of heaven and hell.
If he holds no half over the other half, and just accepts everything as it is. He'll be fighting anything, like goku, that tries to cross humans.

woah woah woah you just made me think of a theory!

please tell me
okay so dante is half angel and half demon. so we already know that dante doesn't like demons and fights against them. that much we know. tameem has mentioned that angles may not have good intentions, so my theory is that perhaps the angels are also against dante as well as demons so dante fights against both of them, standing up for the humans "the little guy" (as mentioned in the recent snip of info).
