Devil Trigger, and Dante's future talk

That's because Capcom doesn't know how to keep consistent. In DMC 1, Dante only had two:

(Note: none of them actually reflect Dante, but the Devil in the Arm he's using)

Yet, in DMC 3, he had five different variations of the same one, and in DMC 2 and 4 he had only one with a much stronger version that shows under certain conditions.
I can't see the faces very well.

I'm in the belief that Ninja Theory was making this game with the mindset of it taking place before DMC3. I think their version of Devil Trigger from what we've seen so far could clue us in a bit on that.

In DMC3 Dante first taps into his Devil Trigger thanks to Vergil impaling him with the Rebellion. Since DmC takes place before, or would've, I think NT wanted a way to have him use something similar to DT without having Dante change into his demon form, hence why in DmC's version of DT he resembles classic Dante rather than transforming into his demon form. It would've been more a way of showing his progression into his awakening rather than it being a completely different kind of Devil Trigger.

It was then revealed though that this game is actually set in a parallel universe, which I think was more because of fan backlash than anything else, which is disappointing, even though I am still somewhat of a skeptic.

Either way it's going to be interesting to see where NT takes their version of Devil Trigger.

It was said in an earlier interview that this is it's own thing. It was never intended to be a part of the original series.
