Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition for Next Gen

Looks like Steam version is ago. I predict a forecast of STYLE for the remainder of the week. See you, folks!

Did anyone else notice that a bunch of secret missions for Vergil got moved/removed?
Its probably because he gets to go through the entire 20 missions. And the blue and purple orbs he gains needed to be split so he doesn't need all of them to reach full bars. I did notice that the dice game does seem easier..

Also vergils got a crazy combo! I miss these!

Someone's been going a bit on the Cuhraysee side.

To those who want to know about the song, it's provably a new one. usually I'd look up the lyrics but it's yielding no results so maybe asking Greg about it would be the way to go.

Edit:
I couldn't find any option for it so does anyone know for sure if the US release lacks the Japanese audio for the game?

japanese audio is not listed on the steam page, so I guess it's not there

As for the gameplay. Initial impression on Vergil (didn't play Lady or Trish yet): it plays great. Controls are excellent as far as I'm concerned, all moves flow well and combo chaining is fluid as ****.

I gotta admit I thought Vergil was basically Super Easy mode. And it's true in a way. He wrecks everything in the game, he just doesn't give a ****.

As I said, he doesn't give a ****.

But at the same time, chaining combos with him is not a total cakewalk, you still need to get timings right with Judgment Cut and teleport cancels, or you're gonna be stuck in the animations, and you're gonna be hit. He relies A LOT on getting cancel timing right when it comes to chaining moves together. Also, he seems to be less dependant on jump cancel, putting more emphasis on teleports to cancel moves.

And here comes the biggest negative, imo: the Grim Trick. It feels useless having to carve a sword into an enemy, really. The input is more or less the same as DMC3SE, you lock on, and press B or Circle, or whatever. The only difference is that there's this little animation of the sword that has to reach the enemy and hit it, in order to teleport. Which makes the time required to teleport a little bit longer. Not a big issue at all, but yeah keeping it like DMC3SE would have been better imo.

And, speaking of animations... the combat ones must have been motion captured too, they're just too good. The way he sheathes Yamato, I can tell that's not manually animated, that's good old Dan in action there, I recognize his movements.

So, what else to say, for now. Vergil's back, biatches, and he kicks major ass!

Been playing it for a couple hours (as Nero, to get back into the DMC mindset) and I'm enjoying it thus far. My only criticism for it is that the graphics are basically the same as the PC version with a couple minor tweaks here and there. :/ That said, I haven't played through the whole game, so there might be more fixes along the way. I'm liking Nero's prototype outfit. =3 Someone needs to cosplay that.

Also, I take issue with Capcom allowing people to buy orbs, souls, and the different play modes. :/ What happened to forcing the player to learn the game? What happened to requiring skill to get the good stuff? Maybe I'm just being nitpicky, though.

Ooooh! Interesting little perk with Vergil! He can snatch far-away orbs with his summon swords. You know that one blue orb fragment that's hidden behind an elevator in the headquarters - an absolute bitch to obtain? Just shoot a summon sword at it, and poof!

My only criticism of the game is that the new characters are really overpowered. I mean, I just beated Belial with Lady in something like 15-20 seconds on Son of Sparda. I also one shotted Dante with her Devil Trigger thingy.

Btw, to anyone who completed the game already, did Savior actually get some changes? He threw platforms at me, seemed a lot more aggressive than in the original and during the first phase, there was a sequence where platforms appeared after a period of time and you were forced to dodge his attacks. I don't remember these things happening in the original.
