Devil May Cry (2016)

I just saw that the other day as well, at my gal's behest. It was really cool, although they removed several characters from the arc they were showing in the film. My girlfriend was disappointed because they completely replaced Aoshi and his gang with Jin'ei. Still good, regardless.

Yea, stuff was missing, but thats something you have to take into account when your making a movie from a book, anime, manga, or video game. What i liked about it the most was Kenshin, and how he was exactly like i thought he was going to be. Also the manga writer or someone was helping with the movie the whole time, and it took a long time to get released but i think it was all for the best.

As for DmC/DMC movie....um... CGI please

No.
Nope.
Uh-uh.
Na-da.
Nu-uh.
No.

I've seen this before.
There is no way this will be good.
If Resident Evil, Max Payne, and Hitman can't make one successful film, I doubt DmC will the film to break the norm.

All different movies by different people, man. Those movies were also bad because they ignored the genre the games came from (horror, action, and suspense respectively). DMC is a purely action-oriented title, and I'd like to think people have learned enough about making game-based films that they won't try to turn the movie into something different than what it could be. I blame self-important scriptwriters thinking they know better :p

That's another thing - all the best game-based movies have had oversight from the original creators. Silent Hill was a decent film because it had the sound director and...some other guy from the developers (can't remember who). And hell, Advent Children, just straight up made by Square, and that movie was awesome.

CG would be nice, but...that really starts to ramp up production costs :S

I don't see why we wouldn't be able to have a DMC CGI film since we had an anime which are essentially short films. So a lengthened anime episode in CGI would be pretty good.

If it was live action I also wouldn't be against, but only on certain terms:
The Japanese would be faithful to the series and keep the cheese factor in, much like Phoenix Wright. Those eccentric/odd-interesting characters and scenes like Lotta Hart or ghost Mei appearing aren't really funny since the Japanese put a lot of effort into that. It's hard to pull it off but 0 effs given by them...they just do it regardless.
If it was directed by those in the west, we would need directors who have creative ideas and don't really care for not being over top.
A director like Edgar Wright. He made Scott Pilgrim and throw gaming culture all of the place with random 1-ups, the funny dialogue and being faithful to the series. He could easily pull of the action scenes and environments. Another would be Zack Snyder Sucker Punch was meh but the action and was good and almost as silly/over the top as DMC.

Anime in my opinion, is pretty weak.
I have concerns about the film, but there is still hope..so... :P

Well I was worried like two years back when they said someone bought the rights to DMC for film. But if they're going to base it on DmC, I'm not worried, lol.

Who is the character in your sig?

And where the hell did you people see the Kenshin movie!? I know it isn't in theaters here...is it?

Im not againts live action based DMC movie but please at least for it not to be like Resident Evil movies where shamelessy i will tell that I liked first one but later are so artificial in flavour like they was forced sequels that have nothing common with original game they represent.

I think it may be good for a CGI movie ( like RE Damnation, Degeneration).

Damn, when I watched that DmC CGI trailer at the cinema, I really thought we would see a movie like RE Damnation and so on. It would be gold. Even though it was for the game, it would also be good on its own CGI flick, no doubt about that. :)

If they really want to make a live action film, then I hope they don't mess up with this one. The story IS simple and not complicated.

I hope they don't try to create new characters and I really hope they don't come with a female as the lead, something that Paul W.S. Anderson would try to use, considering his RE movies. Look at what they did to Resident Evil, focusing all the action on a woman and showing the men as the weak guys, needing to be helped by Alice, lol.

On the other hand, DmC has a reasonable plot that works for a movie. I mean, life isn't what it seems to be, demons are working behind the scenes, cops and press are corrupted by demons, banking system. It's something that people can relate to it, better than what could come from earlier games ( their plots worked for games, but hardly could work for movies).

Please make the movies like Resident Evil (1, apocalypse, extinction, afterlife & retribution).

That's what I was saying earlier. DmCs plot is actually pretty good and work transition to film pretty well. But when you say it wouldn't work for movies, that why we need the Japanese directors or the creative Western directors so say eff that and have crazy bulletshots and gun play. They managed to get Phoenix Wright to work with the crazy scene of actually cross-examining a parrot or with Scott Pilgrim and having Vegan super powers. What Resident Evil tried to do was make it serious and edgy when Resident Evil isn't about that. Even if it sounds silly you have to have those directors that don't care and will be faithful to the series. Look at the amount of small directors on YouTube who have made Portal/Half-life/Zelda fan films and we love 'em.
It reminds me of this (if anyone remembers this)
Or Halo
It can be done.

So you want a totally new character introduced who the entire plot focuses around, always outshines Dante, and completely derailing the plot of the games in favor of making this new OC look "badass", and Dante is essentially a cheerleader for.

Have fun with "Alice May Cry" then, I think a few fanfics already did that one.

Oh no! Not like Alice. But Dante for the entire thing! I mean in the Resident Evil games there were just random characters for mains. But in the movies, Alice was the main.

So with Devil May Cry its Dante permanent.

...Jillm, Chris, Leon and Claire are hardly "random people", since the series focuses aroudn them, and teh movies shoved them aside into minor characters in order to feature Paul Anderson's WIFE as the star. if you were to have a DMC movie run like the RE movies are, you'd have the same thing; the series' actual star is pushed aside for some OC character exclusive to the film that outshines Dante at every turn. Anderson was going to do the exact same thing when he was attached to Castlevania; Simon became a secondary character, and the main of the film was a "strong female character" who was as good, if not better than Simon Belmont, and who became a vampire who killed Dracula and waited for centuries for Simon to be reborn.

Though I would love to see a movie depiction of the original series, I would probably turn out to be another cheesy, bad videogame-movie, but with alot of action and cool visuals. DmC seems to already have a really deep storyline that could be turned into a really good movie, so that is definately the game I would want to see become a movie, if any, and it would probably become the more succesful one outside of the videogame fanbase.

That said, movies based on videogames have a bad rep, because there are so many bad ones. So it's a dangerous field to tread.

Video game movies usually are bad but the that's just people don't know how to make them. It's not hard to turn vifdeo games into movies. Since most video games today already rival quality blockbuster movies have it's easier than ever really. A few decent video game movies have popped out like probably one of the best was the Prince of Persia film. It was entertaining to say the least and Prince of Persia Sands of Time is one of my favorite video games of ever so I was hoping for a decent movie.
DmC could work alot better in movie form than the original games. There isn't much of a movie in those games. I'd love to see Limbo come to life on the big screen and I imagine it would be really cool to see. It already looks awesome in the game. DmC can be done and I just hope it's done right.

Has anyone seen the new Kenshin movie? I just saw it yesterday and the characters were spot on. From the actual attire they were wearing right down to the way they walk. It was one of the best movies i've seen in a long time, not to mention it was a great adaptation from manga to a movie. If DmC wants to take something from this movie, it needs to focus on the big main characters and stay absolutely true to their roots, and try not to add any new special traits that will upset the fan base, but keep the character real enough to someone not familiar with the story can become engaged. I still have to say that Rurouni Kenshi was a very good film.

edit: here is a trailer

Where can I watch this?! I use to love to watch this show.
